The Inane Theories Threadpost your crazy DG theories here!
Mod Note: Closed topic at 98 posts. Find Thread #2 here!
--Crystal/InTheStars 20April2006
MOD NOTE: We are kidding. Yes, surprisingly, if you'll pay a little closer attention to the tone of our posts, we're all being quite facetious. So do not debate here, and do not post comments such as "These theories are a bit far-fetched..." We know they are. This thread is strictly for fun.
--Daniela/vanillapuf & Crystal/InTheStars, 9/1Mod Note: Changed thread title to something more appropriate. --Crystal, 9/1MOD NOTE: These posts deserve a separate thread. They sprang from this search for D/G hints from Potter movies. ~Pen/gal-texter*clears throat* I have a theory.
Draco, 5 letters.
Ginny, 5 letters.
See the logic?
AND
Draco, 5 letters.
Romeo, 5 letters
Ginevra, 7 letters
Julieta (spanish version of Juliet), 7 letters.
See, see, see?
Add this to their backgrounds, to the fact Ginny is younger than Draco, and Juliet is younger than Romeo, to the excellent poultry theory, to the subliminal Filch theory, to the undeniable looking-at-each-other-in-the-photos theory and you come to the simple conclusion that...
They were meant to be.
What other proof do you need? None. I knew you'd see our way.

Daniela (Vanillapuf) and I were talking on AIM last night, and check this out:
"Ginny's" valentine to Harry.
You know, it was
NEVER said
who reallt sent it, only implied.

*coughHMSSheCan'tSingcough*
So, you see, when Draco turns to Ginny and says "I don't think he liked your valentine much," (which was obviously because he was madly jealous), Ginny runs into the classroom crying because now Draco thinks Ginny really likes Harry. You know, proved it from Flourish and Blotts, where he was just taunting (and madly jealous).
*nodnod*
And please, do stick around. BRILLIANT!

Capulet: 7

Well.. there are 2 M's, 2 A's,2 O's... A is first in the alphabet, that's 2 points. M is 13th, that's 26 points, and O is 15th, that's 30 points. 2+26+30= 58. And then 8+5 equals thirteen, which makes the two names 130% compatable.
Of course.

Alright, my lovelies. One day, I was pondering over a section in PoA. It's one of my favs - it's in Potions class, after Draco's arms been hurt, and he has Ron cut up his daisy roots for him. It reads as follows:
| QUOTE |
American Paperback p 124 - 125 They were making a new potion today, a Shrinking Solution. Malfoy set up his cauldron right next to Harry and Ron, so that they were preparing their ingredients on the same table.
“Sir,” Malfoy called, “sir, I’ll need help cutting up these daisy roots, because of my arm—“
“Weasley, cut up Malfoy’s roots for him,” said Snape without looking up.
Ron went brick red.
“There’s nothing wrong with your arm,” he hissed at Malfoy.
Malfoy smirked across the table.
“Weasley, you heard Professor Snape; cut up these roots.”
Ron seized his knife, pulled Malfoy’s roots toward him, and began to chop them roughly, so that they were all different sizes.
“Professor,” drawled Malfoy, “Weasley’s mutilating my roots, sir.”
Snape approached their table, stared down his hooked nose at the roots, then gave Ron an unpleasant smile from beneath his long, greasy black hair.
“Change roots with Malfoy, Weasley.”
“But, sir—!”
Ron had spent the last quarter of an hour carefully shredding his own roots into exactly equal pieces.
“Now,” said Snape in his most dangerous voice.
Ron shoved his own beautifully cut roots across the table at Malfoy, then took up the knife again.
|
Now, we see symbolism presented here.
For the potion, they are to slice
roots. The roots can be seen as their ideal family situations, or the
family themselves.
When having to slice Draco's roots for him, Ron
chops them roughly. This indicates his clear malice towards the Malfoy family, he wants them to be ruined.
But after
mutilating Draco's roots, he is forced to
switch roots with Draco.
Here, the familial situation which Ron wished upon Draco (ruin, mutilation, humiliation, whatever you wish to read into it) is instead forced upon on himself.
This foreshadows the debacle with Percy in later OoP. (and perhaps even more sorrow in future books)
And furthermore, Ron must give Draco his
beautifully cut roots. Here, I strongly believe this refers to Ginny. What else could it be? She's the first female Weasley in generations, so she could be symbolised as a 'beautifully cut' root.
So you see, the D/G ship gets stronger by day. We must continue in our search for canonical proof - it's there!

I think that it's interesting, that Draco and Ginny , both, seem to be able poets.
I mean Draco wrote this "Weasley is our king" and Ginny the famous Valentine for Harry.
A theory I liked very much (but is destroyed by JKR) was that Ginnys name was Virginia, because Dragons and Virgins are part of so many tales.

I haven't posted in nearly forever, and I need to be writing, but... eh...
I have an inane theory of my own involving Gin's name and how it applies to the D/G ship.
Ginevra is a form of Guinivere. As we all know, Guinivere was King Arthur's wife, who was faithless to him with Lancelot. While stories vary as to Lancelot's background, here is what we know...
Arthur is the noble king, the beloved of his kingdom, the "chosen one" who pulled the sword from the stone. It is quite easy, if you are crazy like me, to compare this to Harry, the Boy Who Lived, who managed to be the single person ever to thwart Voldemort.
Lancelot is from outside Camelot-- that is, from outside Arthur's home-- raised by a beautiful woman and more or less without a father. He comes to Camelot as an adult and his first task is to rescue Guinivere. At this time, he and Guinivere fall in love. Granted, the story has a tragic ending, but we'll ignore that.
Then again, the man who abducts Guinivere in the first place is named Malegant (spelled differently in different translations). Hmmm... Malegant, Malfoy.

Yesh... Haven't you ever wondered why Ginny didn't have a typically British name like all of her six siblings or her parents? I mean, Bill/William, Charlie, Fred/Frederic, George, Ronald, Arthur, Molly/Mary... And Ginevra?!
Thus, J.K Rowling must have chosen an uncommon italian name for Ginny for a reason...
I think Draco is more latin than italian? But then italian is the closest language to latin so this must be proof Draco and Ginevra are made for each other ^^

Actually, Latin is the mother for all romance languages (that is, Italian, Spanish, French, etc).
Most languages are offshoots of either Latin or Greek, and English borrows practically everything from both because we're language whores.
And since this post is OT, I have a theory.
Draco and Ginny's ship abbreviation is D/G. And there's a fashion label called Dolce & Gabbana. So you go places and you see people wearing shirts that say DG and belts that are like, D&G and crap like that. And like I said in the debating thread;
JK Rowling is always deceiving us with her little (okay, big) plottwists. Like we all thought Snape was the one who was the bad guy, but
bam it was someone who we never thought it would be!
Then the next book, we all think it's Draco, but
bam it's Ginny! Why do I get a hunch this is foreshadowing? We think it's Draco, but it's Ginny, we all see right through you JK!
See, see. That's why she is making Harry/Ginny such an obvious ship, that we would never suspect that it's going to be Draco/Ginny! But we DG'ers know Rowling all too well

Aha... A new theory. The "Poetic Theory"
Ginevra Molly Malfoy vs Ginevra Molly Potter
Ginevra Molly Malfoy just sounds better because it has both the alitteration in "m" and the consonance in "l". JKR like alitterations: Pansy Parkinson, Draco's Detour, Minerva McGonagall etc. Therefore, d/g is meant to be.

Hear, hear, chuya. Meant to be!
Okay, here's something I just noticed today whilst poking about in JKR's site. In her 'extra stuff' section, under 'random facts about the Weasley family', she talks about how Ron has always been named a 'Weasley', his last name never changed. Well, then she goes on to explain:
"In Britain and Ireland the weasel has a bad reputation as an unfortunate, even malevolent animal. However, since childhood I have had a great fondness for the family mustelidae; not so much malignant as maligned, in my opinion."
So I was like, isn't it odd that when she's talking about weasels she then widens the focus of her fondness to the whole 'family mustelidae', as opposed to just weasels.
So let's focus on them first - the family Mustelidae (Mustelids). It's actually "the largest family of Carnivora" (
source). What puzzles me most, actually, is that she decided to widen it back to 'family', when there's even the more specific genus Mustela (in which ferrets and weasels are contained) before the species 'Mustela nivalis' which is the common European Weasel (
source).
But anyhow. Mustelids include both ferrets and weasels.
Ginny
Weasley - Weasel
Ferret = Draco in GoF
And then more interestingly, she says that this family is more
maligned than
malignant.
Maligned : adj : assailed with contemptuous language [syn: reviled]
Malignant : adj: extremely malevolent or malicious
(both defs from WordNet via Dictionary.com)
So.... the whole family is more maligned than malignant? Even ferrets?
Fascinating.
JKR is crazo, by the way, to think she could let
this one get past. I mean, Dolce and Gabbana, maybe. But the family Mustelidae? Heck no, techno.

Japanese) meaning silver. Draco has silver eyes.
I went on google and searched "Ginny" in images, to see if God would send a sign that would help prove D/G is right. Well, He sure helped me back up Nilla's theory. Scroll down a bit and look to the left after you click this link. There you will find the Christmas rodent named Ginny.
CLICKAlso...dragon and virgin, the meaning of Draco and Ginny's names, are very significant. In many tales, the dragon captures the virgin, keeping her all to himself, and everyone knows a night in shining armour (Harry, analitically) is no match for a giant, fire-beathing dragon. Honestly, a dragon could blow a man away by batting its eyelashes at him. Too bad, I guess Ginny's been caught for good.

Ooo... I have another very
serious theory !
*rolls drums*
The Blaise TheoryNow Blaise is a French name. But a rather uncommon
French name. Now the most famous bearer of this wonderful name was a French philosopher and mathematician
Blaise Pascal.
This brilliant man is famous for the following quote, which IMO is perfect for D/G.
"
Le Cœur a ses raisons que la Raison ne connaît point"
"
The Heart has reasons that Reason knows nothing about/can't comprehend."
This quote is known to virtually every French person and there is a fat chance that JK, being fluent in French herself (she was a
french teacher , might have come accross it. Hence the name "Blaise". I can't think of any other Blaise she could be alluding to.
Now, when speaking to non d/g shippers I've been told, amongst other things, that Ginny and Draco would never even think about falling in love with each other. But does one fall in love with their brains, using Reason, or with their Hearts?
This got me thinking... Why would JK pick the archaic name of "Blaise" for a character only mentioned once in PS and whom she said we would be seeing in further books? Why
Blaise.
Well, I guess there could be a few reasons:
a ) She liked the name. (but we know she usually picks names for a better reason than this. ie. Sirius, the dog star etc.)
b ) Blaise is going to be a very intelligent character who will perhaps be able to assess the situation and see beyond house rivalry. He might thus play a part in the unification of the houses.
c ) He is going to be a very intelligent character, see beyond house rivalries and play a big part in getting Ginny and Draco to admit their feelings one other. He might thus also be playing a big role in house unity.

Draco: "Argh, Zabini, why can't I stop looking at her? Why can't I make myself hate her horrible freckles, her Wealsley-red hair and her shabby clothes? Why?!" Blaise: "You know Draco... Le Cœur a ses raisons que la Raison ne connaît point" |

Draco & Ginny... Can't you see they're meant to be?

Yup yup, I firmly believe JKR loves blonde/rehaired couples. I mean... Bill/Fleur, Luna/Ron, Ginny/Draco? They're just meant to be ^^ Clashing hair colours for clashing personalities and we all know opposites attract

hey i've got another one!! hehe, as soon as you start looking they pop up all over the place!
Ginny has read hair right? and the whole weasley 'weasel' thing that goes on, and the fact that everyone thinks that if Ginny were an animagus she'd be a fox.
Ok, so fox right? they're always these seemingly nice creatures in stories(ie. the ginger bread man) and then WAM!! they become all sly and underhanded.
Ok, that should prove the D/G ship for sure.
