Everyone on here, I agree with!
It's very true that he was...well....cheerful after Hermiones kiss! Woohoo!!
karenkate_kitty
Aug 15 2003, 08:01 AM
Yup.... I guess that pretty much says it.... Harry was too preoccupied with the death of Cedric and he wasn't really reacting to anything at that time.... and yes Hermione was the first person who ever showed Harry pure affection.... hug in the first book before he went to face Quirrell.... I think these are signs....
dreamin_athena
Aug 15 2003, 09:54 AM
I agree with everyone except that I think Harry did react to it. He noticed that she's never done that. Had he been completely preocupied he wouldn't have given it another thought, he would've realized that she's never done that before, somewhere later. Anyway, but I also agree that he really didn't react to anyone in any huge way.

I really wish we would get a reaction!
I mean when Hermione kissed Ron in OotP, we got a reaction from Ron!
I want a reaction from Harry as well...
But I agree with karenkate_kitty that he was preoccupied with Cedric's death.

I agree with
dreamin_athena , Harry did react from the kiss in GOF, only it was not the one so commonly anticipated. Rather, it was a mental note, a reaction in his brain that told him Hermione has done something she has never done before.
That's definitely a reaction. But not physiologically manifested. But a reaction nonetheless.
Good spotting there, dreamin-athena.

That's true, he did notice that she'd never done that before...
That makes me feel a little bit better

(Ok, it's just me speculating, but...)
I think that the simple fact that he noticed that Hermione has kissed him for the first time made he wonder why she did that.
And that's a good reaction IMHO, although it's not a big one. I mean, I'm sure that if he was too pleased or too disgusted about the kiss, probably JKR would let us know that. He couldn't be too pleased, because he really just saw Hermione as a friend in GoF and he still had his "Cho's infatuation".
But I think that kiss is definitely something that Harry "carries" with him (just like the way Hermione looked in the Yule Ball). Maybe, later in the series, these factors might help him notice Hermione in a whole new light

.

Good points re Harry's shock over Cedric's death, yet he still noted that Hermione did something she had never done before.

Hermione IS the only one who shows him any affection and I also think that no reaction means HIDDEN REACTION!
karenkate_kitty
Aug 16 2003, 09:28 AM
Harry definitely had a reaction.... he was surprised by that certain kiss but he also had another things in mind.... he may not have given the reaction we wanted but he was in troubled state.... i mean he just saw someone die....never the less he noticed and that's a good sign.....and Hermione is very affectionate towards and no other shipper can detest to that.... don't give me that their just friends crap.... i had enough of it..... hmm..... i guess i was a little pissed sorry about my outburst... i had just been bashed and i'm not the type who goes arguing with unreasonable people.... and to think it was on a neutral board..... I never bash even in our own turf why do they like doing that.. picking on an H/Hr shipper all the time....well, i got over it.... moving on

'Bye, Harry!' said Hermione, and she did something she had never done before, and kissed him on the cheek.
(as written in GOF) |
highlighting be mine, it's not that Harry noticed that she never kissed him before, it was something else other than the kiss. people keep making a bad analysis of this line (probably because of their h/hr instincts, so i don't blame you guys

), so i've decided to point this out.
so, hermione was doing something that was
other than the kiss, and harry found it unexpected. so the question that should be baking your noodle now is this:
what did hermione do unexpectedly to harry?
Hope to get your feedback!

Very good point! Very simple, but it makes sense. ^.^
I never saw Harry's lack of reaction as a threat. If anything, I found it interesting. I wasn't shipping at the time, but it caught my attention, that's for sure.

Al right, accoriding to some R/Hr Shippers the kiss on the cheek in GoF is a sign that Hermione is just interested in frienly things with Harry (Aha! someof them wish it was)
But just the way Rowling writes it, makes me thing (as Ive always had) that is a H/Hr proof.

| 'And Hermione did something she never done before and kissed him on the cheek.' |
She could have wrote:
"Hermione kissed him on the cheek and then kissed Ron" or "Hermione sayed good bye to him, and kissed him on the cheek"
But she writes
| QUOTE |
| She did somethin she never done before |
That's Harrys point of view, right? Then Harry
noticed that she had done something different to say good bye to him.
Well, bye!!!

You deserve pumpkin pie for that post, but I'll wait for Sunshinebelle to get here before hugs are given out.

Oh, and horray H/H! I wonder what Hermione looked like after the kiss. It didn't really tell us did it?

No it didn't, which leaves me horribly curious. But I imagine her skipping of to her parents with a satisfied smile upon her face.

I can't even remember if Harry even met her parents yet. (I read wayyy too much fanfiction) Anyone know who they are or what they look like? They're dentists, right?
And Hermione was probably super-happy, I agree. Skip-a-dee-do-da skip-a-dee-day...

Lol...I dunno about the SKIPPING...although it'd be hilarious. Go read Sirius83's essay about Hermione's overall feelings in OotP on the Pumpkinpie's Army board...it has a great analysis of this kiss through OotP.

Cool theory! Very intelligent!
And YES I am the QUEEN of the hug!!! (In real life too.. Im the most annoyingly cuddly person you'll ever meet in your life! haha!) Thanks for pointing it out.. makes me proud! haha!

*GIVES HUGE HUGS TO EVERYONE*
There you go my official hug!
And as I was saying, thats true.. it DID say it in those words.. so maybe humm.. one of the SUBTLE clues JKR is leaving!!! Its just like how everyone thinks Harry and Hermione are boyfriend/girlfriend! Whats the point of having that in the story if its not important for something?! She wouldnt have put the 'and she did something she had never done before' part in, if it wasnt tremendously significant.
Meh, I dont see whats so special about the R/Hr kiss.. she kissed harry too afterwards (remember the 'and you, Harry--') the only difference is that Ron reacted significantly (like he wouldnt! We already know he likes her!) Harry just doesnt know that hes in love with her yet.. he'll realize it soon though, im sure!
Oh and good thoughts everyone

with the wondering about Hermione's face.. im actually curious about Harry's face. I wonder if he'll blush.
ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT THEY BETTER NOT TAKE THAT OUT OF THE MOVIE!
IF THEY DO... I KILL!!!!!!!!!!

And send HATE MAIL!!!!
LOL!
Wouldnt you guys be majorly pissed if that happened??

I've noticed that too. I've also noticed how JKR is constantly ambiguous when it comes to possible shipping clues. The H/Hr kiss seemed to stick out in my mind( as with the rest of us )because of that one line. The only thing the R/Hr kiss seemed to prove, was to give another clue that Ron likes Hermione( we really didn't even need another one ).
karenkate_kitty

and it didn't prove that Hermione liked him in return because I have a feeling that the kiss was to prevent him from seeing those Weasley is our king badges.... No harm done H/Hr rules!!!!!

Quite. Especially as Hermione said "and you too, Harry -" the '-' implies that her words were interrupted by her kissing Harry also. Ron just reacted in a funny way and it was noticeable to Harry.

yup.... she kissed him too that's a really nice thought..... heck i wish it was true
sunshinebelle
Aug 25 2003, 09:16 AM
Yes, I'm sure there was a H/Hr kiss then!
I just think that JKR was trying to draw attention away from it, so it's less noticable. She just wants R/Hr to be really obvious, because then no one will expect H/Hr when it BAM! Happens! Horray!!!!!!!! *this is the part where you cheer*

j.k.rowling said that it took her ten years to lead uo to the closing scene
in the gof. and those who have read it no its significance. thats why she
did not want it leaked out. now why is a kiss on the cheek significant?

Thank you.. I hope we find closeing in this one....
Those R/Hr ppl are just mad becasue hermoine and ron don't have a little kiss.
I feel bad for J.K. Rowling (god bless her).. she has to decide the WORLDWIDE argument between R/HR and H/HR or even to decide. Knowing her, i think she'll leave it a blank.

well, who would want to take her place then? I would and make a nice H/Hr ending and mind you i won't kill off Ron either..... because I'd be in such a good mood after writing the last chapters
sunshinebelle
Aug 26 2003, 04:46 PM
Yes, I read that it took her ten years to work up to the closing scene, which got the wheels in my brain turning too..
but whatever she dies, I dont think she's really paying attention to what we want.
I dont think she frankly cares! haha!

Ah well, hopefully there will be a nice H/Hr ending.. if not, then it will always been H/H for me at least!

I agree that Hermione kissed Ron so he didn't see the Weasley is our King Badges, and then she of course kissed Harry as well, because she looooovvveeesss him lol.
I'm glad somebody made note of Harry noticing the kiss at the end of GoF..I would never have noticed that.

Jan 3 2004, 04:42 PM
Also, the kiss Harry recieved was really Hermione's first go at kissing any body at all. Now, that's special, even if it's only on the cheek. After all, I seriously doubt the Hermione had kissed anyone before Harry and the first kiss (on anywhere) is always the most significant.

I do agree that the kiss hermione gave ron was a distraction tool, but I just think that the kiss hermione gave harry only partially proves that she likes him and I don't think it proves that harry likes her, because if it did we would have seen more emotion in Harry after she kissed him.Just my opinion.

Yeah, I agree, and also keep in mind that at the end of GOF Harry had just witnessed a death and still blames himself. I doubt he would've noticed if someone stripped and danced around him, so the fact that he noticed Hermione's kiss is pretty special.

Okay guys. I need help. I've been wondering about this for quite some time now. In GOF, we all know that Hermione kisses Harry on the cheek as they say their goodbyes at King's cross.
| QUOTE (GOF @ The Beginning, the very last page) |
"Bye, Harry!" said Hermione, and she did something she had never done before, and kissed him on the cheek. |
I took the liberty to italicize and underline what I wanted to ask everyone about. I shall call them Statements 1 and 2:
Statement 1. and she did something she had never done before,...
Statement 2. and kissed him on the cheek.
Does #1 statement implies what Hermione does in statement #2?
If it does, wouldn't JKR have written it this way?:
...and she did something she had never done before by kissing him on the cheek.Doesn't two
and's, in this regard, refer to two different occurences of event?

Is it possible that JKR is referring to two different situations?
If so, what is that "something" that Hermione has never done before? Perhaps she fell in love? Or it is that she began to feel something deeper for Harry other than the platonic friendship? Before I list all the possible "somethings" that might have happened to Hermione
deep within, does anyone here with good analytical thinking (or anyone who knows a lot about sentence construction) or anyone else who regards this as curious--like me--think Statement #1 pertains to Statement #2 or simply put, what Hermione really did that she had never done before was, yeah, just kiss Harry on the cheek? What do you guys think? Any thoughts?
**************
I hope that makes sense. Please pardon me if it confuses some of you folks.
