I just saw Iris, a heartwrenching movie about a brilliant woman suffering from Alzheimers. The characters themselves have very little in common with Harry and Hermione but the devotion between the two just seemed to fit this ship so well.

I started this topic to see if anyone else could find similarities to qualities in these two's relationship in other movies or books.

Hi, tell me more... what similarity they have?

Well, it's JMO, but I think Heaven and Troy's relationship in the Casteel series by VC Andrews could be similar. Troy is much more of a tragic character than Harry, but the two of them need each other so badly.

Unfortunately, their relationship was ill fated from the start, for several reasons (one of which is quite disturbing for most people) so I hope that H/Hr's relationship will not wind up like theirs.

I read this book, Say Goodnight, Gracie by Julie Reeves Deaver, I believe. The two characters were platonic, but a bit on the boardering romance side. Kind of like H/H. ::shrug:: It was a really good book. Sad, but really good.

I didn't get to watch Iris here as the show was R. But it did reallt receive good ratings.

I think (this may sound silly ) that maybe The cartoon 'anime' series called Cardcaptors or Card Captor Sakura sort of has a similar pairing which is Sakura and Li Shoaron. But they didn't sort of start off like Harry/Hermione did because they were really like rivals.
But then their relationship became really strong and then Li started to feel a little more stronger for Sakura and eventually told her that he loved her (that's sort of like Hermione who I am thinking that she will tell Harry about her 'feelings' )then at the end of the series which was the 2nd Movie was when Sakura was going to tell Li that she was in love with him too.

That's what I think and if none of you have seen Cardcaptors,it's a really good show!

I have always caught myself saying where have I read this before or seen. I am talking about Harry and Hermoine relationship. Well here is my opionion Harry is Romeo and Hermoine is Juilet and Cho-Chang is Rosaline. Romeo (Harry) is in love with Rosaline(Cho) and he says there is no one better. Then he goes to the Capulet part(Yule Ball) then he sees is one true love an angle sent from heaven. He see Juilet (Hermoine). He completely forget about Rosaline(cho) and gets Juilet (Hermoine). Meanwhile Paris(Ron) is trying to get with Juilet (Hermoine) but he never does because Romeo (harry) marry Juilet (Hermoine). Please send in your opionion and quote about who they resemble!

well I've always been impressed by how fast Harry forgot about Cho...
If I was really infatuated with someone I'd be staring at the discretly during the ball. But somehow the whole ball was describing Hermione's actions!
Perhaps Harry dosn't realise he's giving his full attention to Hermione instead of his secret crush...

i dunno, i mean, there's not a lot of outside family problems keeping them apart or anything like romeo and juilet. i mean, i get the comparisons you made, but i think that harry and hermione are more like two friends who keep getting closer until one day they just realize that they should be together. i dunno, maybe like monica and chandler on friends? but i'm not sure, i'm not too good at analogies and that kinda thing.

I never thought about it that way before. I always assumed that the D/G paring was more to the style of Romeo and Juliet... because of the Weasleys and the Malfoys hating eachother so...

Yea, I tend to agree with this comparioson a bit more when it comes to H/H... or even when Mary Jane realizes that Peter Parker is there for her from the start.
Who knows though... only JKR.

I see Harry and Hermione as very like Mr. Knightely and Emma in Emma by Jane Austen, which is, incidently, JK Rowling's favourite book.

Both Emma and Mr. Knightely have been best platonic friends for years and share a relationship very similar to H/Hr's.

I don't know whether this couple could be considered 'famous', but my favourite H/H parallel is Mulder/Scully from The X-Files. Purely platonic friends for years --seven years, in fact, which is coincidentally the number of years Harry and Hermione will be at Hogwarts together-- until they finally 'cross the line'. Not to mention that the director/creator Chris Carter made a statement at one point saying Mulder & Scully would not be romantically involved... rather similar to the infamous 'platonic' quote by JKR, methinks, although I like to think that that particular quote refers solely to GoF.

I just had to put this topic up- I 'm just so curious to know which couple from a book, tv show, game, comic, cartoon or movie reminds you of H/Hr.
Think along the lines of platonic relationship, protection and so on.
You can say why you believe the couple reminds you of H/Hr and if you can, a picture.

The couple that reminds me of H/Hr is the game couple Zelda and Link from the Legend of Zelda game series.
They are friends on a mission to defeat the bad guy who really hates Link for some reason. Zelda constantly shows affection and sympathy while Link just acts like a normal friend- showing no signs of interest. Until one time where Link rescues Zelda and they fall in love.

I know that JAG has nothing to do with Harry Potter...I mean non what so ever, but H/Hr kind of remind me of Harm/Mac. How...i don't know...

One obstacle that H/Hr have to cross is Ron...he might be a reason they won't get together

Harm and Mac have the same thing...Granted Harm and Mac can't really get together because of NAVY regulations...its kinda-sorta-almost the same thing.

Besides H/Hr will work out in the end just like Harm/Mac

Well, for me, I consider Mr. Knightley and Emma from Jane Austen's Emma to be a perfect H/Hr couple. Emma is so headstrong and clever. Mr. Knightely is kind and considerate and really takes care of her. They are platonic friends for years, like siblings and then... it changes. Look at this extract:

Emma's friend Harriet has just told Emma that she has a crush on Mr. Knightely, not, as Emma had previously thought- Frank Churchill.

Well I've always thought that Harry and Hermione are a little bit like Vaughn and Sydney on Alias. Close friends who both know they want something more, but won't admit it. And Vaughn and Sydney had work problems that made it harder for them to get together too. And Sydney's always in danger, but Vaughn is her brain that helps her to think quickly in tough situations. Kind of like how Hermione's always there to save the day for Harry when he saves the day.

Well.. the first ship that I ever sailed wasnt actually Harry and Hermione... its was Corey and Topanga from Boy Meets World. Now many of my PK buds know that I love BMW and that I will drop everything at 11:30 to watch the reruns they have on late-night Disney channel.. and I find myself at times wishing that I had a Corey/Topanga sort of love. And in some ways I can see the simmilarities between H/Hr and C/T.

-Topanga started out with busy crazy hair (yes... it calmed down after that episode in their sophomore year... but it was still busy.)

-Topanga was valedictorian of the John Adams High School class of 2000. There is no doubt in my mind that Hermione will be head girl.

-Topanga is a very determined activist... vegitarian, feminist, etc... not unlike Hermione's S.P.E.W. front.

-Corey is this dopey kid with no real amazing qulaties or gifts, but he is honest, genuine and true... very Harry-like dont you think?

-Corey and Topanga started out as "icky-cootie" .... but became fast friends... and then more

-There is a threesome: Corey, Topanga, and Sean. Although, I dont really see how Sean is like Ron... oh well...

-I can definatley see the Dumbledore in Mr. Feeney.

*And the most telling simmilarity (in my mind at least) from the first time I saw the show, I had the feeling that Corey was supposed to be with Topanga... and it happened. And from the first time I read SS, I had the feeling that Harry should be with Hermione... lol, what more evidence do you need?!

Anyways, thats my two knuts!

I agree totally and completely with SamathaMarie. Every time I watch that show I always think to myself that Topanga is so much like Hermione. They have the same character traits, and they even look alike! (Well, the hair thing anyway...)

I guess Cory is like Harry, but I never really thought of it that way. But, I still agree with SamanthaMarie entirely.

OMG! Sammie and SweetSolitude! I totally agree! I adore BMW and I've always thought that Harry and Hermione remind me so much of Cory and Topanga! I love the idea of being friends with someone forever, and having them mean more to you than anything, and not even realise that you've been falling in love with them from the second you met I'm a hopeless romantic, as you might be able to tell

Another couple is Lizzie and Gordo from the Lizzie McGuire TV series and film. Like you said with C/T, from the very first ep I saw, I knew there was something b/w L/G. And that has been a long running theme in the show, the will-they-won't-they realise their feelings for one another scenario. As it stands at the end of the series (though the last series has only just begun for me in Oz) Gordo has finally confessed to the audience what we knew all along - he likes Lizzie! And Lizzie has found out, but what will she do...? That leads onto the movie, and from all accounts, it's gonna end well for them

Not only does their relationship remind me of H/H, but as you pointed out, Sammie, with C/T, their characters and situations are similar too, although in this case Lizzie is Harry and Gordo is Hermione. Lizzie is also quite a normal girl, but she's honest and genuine and always tries to do what's right. Gordo is the smartest person they know, dependable and true. They also have a 3rd person in the relationship too, Lizzie's best friend Miranda. But just like with our Trio, despite Harry/Lizzie calling Ron/Miranda their best friend, it's arguably Hermione/Gordo who show them the most love, loyalty and support.

Sammie - I can see what you mean - I loved Corey and Topanga too, so I can agree with you - and I can see Sean and Ron the same - sure, Sean didn't argue with Topanga at every waking moment, but remember in the beginning he almost seemed to hate her and tried to stay away from her but never could because Corey was at least trying to be nice?? Sound familiar??

Definitely Cory and Topanga! It's the only sitcom that I favour. They really remind me of Harry and Hermione. i'm glad you brought that up or else I would not have remembered.

Yay! Another Lizzie fan! As if I dont get enough greif for being an 18 year old college freshman HP fan.. I like Lizzie to boot My roomie and I love it and are total L/G shippers and are planning on seeing the movie the weekend it opens!

I also see the HP in Lizzie... cause I am constently referring to Lizzie as a "Female Boy Meets World" in an attempt to justify it to my friends. So, good observation!

This is so weird! I'm 19, and a huge fan of HP, LM and BMW, and a MASSIVE H/H, L/G and C/T shipper! They are my fave fictional couples! And you wouldn't believe the grief I get for it Sounds like we have a bit in common, huh?

I can't WAIT to see the LMM, but it's not out in Australia til June/July But I am DYING to see it! And I'm really looking forward to seeing the L/G episodes of the series that are coming up

Okay I saw someone post earlier (I'm too lazy to look who it is ) about Harm and Mac from JAG. And I have to agree. They started out as friends, but it's obvious they have romantic feelings for each other now.

p.s.-- this is totally but I never thought I'd see someone else on this site that watches JAG. lol

I thought I was the only one who watched JAG! I also thought Harry/Hermione reminded me of Mulder/Scully. Scully was the logical one, always looking for the answer in science. Hermione always looks for the answer in books. Mulder was the type who ask-later, a definate Harry trait.

Well, I am going to say Dawson and Joey from Dawson's creek. No matter what happens in a week and two days time, Dawson and Joey remind me of H/Hr for several reasons. My sister and I were discussing this the other day. We have both been watching Dawson's creek since the beginning of the series and we both have noticed similarities between our favorite DC couple and our favorite (hopefully) couple of HP. I will list the similarities:

One: Joey is/was a bookworm, super student, whatever you like to call someone who loves to study. Our little Hermione is the same way.
Two: Dawson is the loyal, trustworthy friend that would never let you down, even if you hurt him. Harry is the same way.
Three: Dawson and Joey have Pacey; the sidekick, comic relief, hot-tempered, don't mess with me or I'll blow, I have a crush on my love to hate friend which is gonna to hurt my best friend more than anything, and I pity myself every chance I get guy. Harry and Hermione have Ron, who fits many of those.
Four: Here is where there is a bit of a switch. Joey was orphaned by her parents. Harry was orphaned by his.
Five:Dawson grew up with loving comforting parents, who supported his dreams. Hermione did also.
Six:Dawson and Joey are the King and Queen of the will they, won't they thing and I see this happening with Harry and Hermione. They will deny their feelings until they're faced with them head on.
Seven: Dawson would do anything for Joey, including die. Come on, Harry would do all of that and more...
Eight: It has been rumored that Dawson's first kiss came from Joey....need I say more?
Nine: They speak the same eye language as H/Hr.
Ten: They are able to read each other's minds.
Eleven: Both couples are soulmates and need each other desperately.

Okay here are the couples I think of....

Liz Parker/ Max Evens off Roswell. My Reasons? Well here we go:

Liz like Hermoine is smart
Max in my mind could look alot like Harry if you put in glasses and a scar...
Max saved Liz's Life, as did Harry with Hermoine in book 2 (even though Ron helped)
Hermoine like Liz is most probably willing to risk everything for Harry (um... a idea for a fic maybe...)


Tai/Sora off Digimon. (notices queer looks... what? I love it!)

Best Friends, all though the show ended in... Sorato I still belive in it,
Also like the Dawson/Joey couple I think Sora was Tai's first kiss and vice versa.

Well, I think about Van and Hitomi from Escaflowne(the series, not the movie) when I consider Harry and Hermione. I dunno why, really, because their personalities are nothing at all alike, but Van kinda looks like Harry without glasses, don't you think? And besides, I just get the feeling of their being together being "right" like I do with Van and Hitomi.

The Couple that reminds me of H/Hr is probably Shawn and Belle from Days Of Our Lives. Shawn would do anything for Belle, he will protect through anything, just like Harry would for Hermione. Belle wants Shawn to be honest with him at all times and Hermione wants Harry to not lie to her and express his feelings. They knew each other from a young age and they were friends and they fell in love. Harry and Hermione have feelings for each ever since they met and they probably going to fall in love later on too. Shawn has made a few mistakes, like pretending his was the father Jane's baby and had a party in his dorm and was naked in front of all the girls, but Belle forgave him. Harry will probably make a few mistakes, like going out with Cho or something (I hope that's not going to happen), but always Hermione will be there and forgive him. Belle and Shawn and Harry and Hermione have a lot in common for relationship wise.

Li Mu Bai and Yu Shu Lien from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon are to me the perfect image of Harry and Hermione in an angsty world after Rons death, struggling with their love for each other and guilt over a close friends death. Hopefully JKR doesnt end it with Harry on his deathbed admitting his blindness and stupidity for not admiting his feelings earlier.

I've thought of two they might resemble. Firstly Thingy and whatsit ( i know that'll help a lot of you) from Notting Hill. (Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant) but oddly Harry is more the Julia Roberts character (i.e famous) and Hermione more Hugh Grant ( and come on, he owns a book store). Plus how good is this? The main song in that film is "when you say nothing at all"!!!
another I thought of was Ally and Larry in Ally McBeale. How much did everyone love Larry and she shouldn't have gone off with that other plumber guy but that's . Larry was always so sweet and the whole snowman thing...melts your heart doesn't it! (ha ha, see what i did there, snowman..melting..never mind).

Nothing from Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Aw... typical I suppose. How about Willow/Xander... I know they have the platonic friendship but they kissed... I know it's not for any attraction... Tara and Anya are the baricades to their love... GRR, this couple has not beknown to come true. But like Harry/Hermione, I'm also dreaming.

Here are my reasons:

1. They have been best friends for very long like H/Hr.

2. Willow is the computer geek with all the witch power like Hr.

3. Xander is the typical one, normal one with friendship to save the days although Buffy does that... normally.

4. Okay... I admit it... they are not really similiar but take a closer look!

Joey and Dawson have always been favorite couple i really hope they get together on the last episode..but oops! i've gotten side tracked. i really hope that Harry and Hermione get together in the end too!

I'm going to make a literary analogy, because I don't watch that much TV.

Harry and Hermione really remind me of Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe from the Anne of Green Gables book series. You know: They start out enemies, of sorts, the boy rescues the girl, they become good friends and...well, you can fill in the blanks.

My very first ship was Mulder/Scully. They really do resemble H/Hr. I just hope it doesn't take nine years ::cringe:: And I know this is off topic, but did any of you see the very last episode of TXF? The last scene on the bed. AHHH so cute!!

BtVS couples? Hmm. The closest I'd say there is Buffy/Xander... in situation only (two longtime platonic friends who've helped each other through hell and back, very loyal to one another). Characterwise, I'm not sure I see too many parallels between them and H/Hr, though. (Aside from Buffy and Harry both being tortured 'chosen ones' of sorts. But Xander's almost the complete opposite of Hermione. More like Ron, really.)

But Mulder/Scully's definitely the couple out there that to me resembles H/Hr the most. (Oddly, I was never a shipper for them.) Especially once I heard this Mulder quote from the X-Files movie:

Hm now before I begin I need to warn you this is not what its look. Its reminds me of Clark Kent and Lois Lane Now I mean only Clark Kent and not Superman if you understand. You know Kent and Lane are really good friends right. In some vision they get together in other not.
Why not superman? Because Hermione don´t see only the hero in Harry, this is the different between this couples. Hermione see only Harry.
Something what bothering me is that I read in so many fanfics that Hermione say to Harry not only Harry. She say Potter. Sorry but if I read this its remind me on Malfoy. I can´t imagine that Hermione will ever say Potter or Harry Potter or Mr. Potter. She haven´t done it. That is one off the reason why I believe that Hermione see only Harry not the famous boy. Its the strongest arguments for H/Hr in my eyes because she is the only one who see only him.

phoenixwriter: I agree with you on the I think she'd give him a nickname too. In fics, he calls her Mione. I tend to think Hermione is smart enough to think of a cute nickname for him.

I so could see that happening at the end of the last Harry Potter book

They sat snuggled together on the small bed in the hospital wing, they were almost alone, they could hear Madam Pomfey moving about the wing and her shadow kept passing by the screen she'd place around the bed to protect them from praying eyes, Harry had his arms around Hermione's form and he raised an hand and traced her cheek.
"You've havn't fallen asleep have you Mione!" He questioned, she shook her head slowly and she looked up at him though her lashes.
"No! just thinking" she said softly, Harry raised an eyebrow,
"Not bad thoughts I hope!" He said with a sad smile, they had both lost so much in just a few hours, he closed his eyes trying in vain to get rid of the images of Ron dying under Voldermort's Avada Kedavra curse, he felt Hermione trace his brow and he opened his eyes to find tears in her own.
"Hogwarts will close for sure now Harry so many students have died!" She said Harry grimsed.

Ok, I might be totally wrong with this one, but I'm gonna try anyway. I saw the Matrix Reloaded last night at a midnight showing (which by the way was great!) and I thought how cute Neo and Trinity were. I tried really hard to think back to the first one and my memory is foggy. Didn't they have a slightly rocky relationship at first too? Kinda like how Harry and ron thought Hermione was a know-it-all? I'm pretty sure Trinity wasn't fond of Neo at first too.

Am I wrong? (My apologies if I am)

You know, this might be odd, but I also see a bit of Harry and Hermione in Cloud and Aeris. While almost everybody and their mothers disagree with me, I've always felt that those two really complemented each other better than Tifa and Cloud did. Aeris certianly seemed to make Cloud open up better than Tifa did, in my opinion....
