Oh yes, this was my second R/LL and I loved it! Ron is so clueless here, it is hilarious! Definitely a must read for everyone, even though you don't support the ship.

I couldn't tell you how many R/LL fanfics I've read already--there are too many to count-- and most (like 95%) are
humor fanfics. I was so surprised that I actually missed the first chapter of this fic when it was posted here at Portkey. I don't know how that happened, but thank goodness, it was updated and I found it! What else can I say! A must, must read! The funniest R/LL I've read so far... the way Ron was characterized as being utterly clueless?--priceless!

Oh, goodness gracious. Ron's utterly oblivious and so innocent. *shakes head* Anyway, a must read, definitely. Love the way petunia portrayed Ron and Luna in this fic. And the Sir Cadogan incident - classic! And somehow, this is the way I'd imagine Ron's diary to be like - if he wrote one.

Oh my god! I can't believe I've been recommended!
Thank you so much
I'm very flattered considering the quality of the writing on this site.
Yep, Ron is very clueless indeed. I keep trying to write him a bit more mature but it just won't happen!
Will have to get going on March now - poor old Ron, what will I do to him next? As someone pointed out, 1march is his birthday, so that's a good start to the month...
Thank you all again

as we say in Scotland, lang may yer lums reek

Petunia: c'mon, you're brilliant!
And I noticed someone left a rather unfriendly review: don't mind people like that person! I hope you didn't take him (or her, or whatever) seriously!
Ri, who thinks that she does not want to know what lums are, and has a sneaking suspicion that it has no connection whatsoever with lummy

This is a brilliant, witty, satiric story!

You're a great author, Petunia!
By the way, you're British and that's so cool- it shows! And I adore your signature- it's one of my favourite poems from Much Ado.

Normally I avoid Ron/Luna fics like the plague, but this one caught my eye -- and yeah, it's hysterical. I love Ron's 'voice' in this, clueless and funny and very much a teenage boy. I'm actually rooting for R/L in this, which I never thought would happen.
So yes, I definitely recommend this, even (and maybe especially) if you don't like the R/L ship.

I have to join the people singing the praises of this fic. It is completely hilarious. I've reread it quite a few times in anticipation of a new chapter and every time my family thinks I've lost my mind since it would be much to difficult to explain exactly why I'm laughing so hard.
A definite, undeniable must-read.

Hi! I am Dome 36 and I want to clarify a situation:
I think that I have to make a statement to clarify what it was classified in here as an "unfriendly review".
It was me that wrote that "unfriendly review". First of all: if my words offend the author or anyone in Talk.Portkey I present my apologies. It was never my intention to offend anyone with my words. And I really mean it!
So, I think that is important to assume what I have said in my review. I don't like to hide!
When we write reviews, I think that we have to consider two important aspects:
1 - The author have the right to produce his/her work in the way he/she finds out to be better suited to the objectives of the fic!
2 - A review is supposed to be honest. Therefore, it the reader don't understand the plot or if the reader wants to make suggestions to the author, it is a matter of honesty to do it.
When I read this particular fic, I remain with two major impressions:
First, this is a very creative fic and the author have good sense of humour.
Second, and in here lies my personal doubts regarding this fic, we must not see the humour as something that is only to make people laugh. A clever sense of humour is the one that makes people laugh and think at the same time.
And, with only two chapters, the author clearly showed that is capable of producing clever humour.
So, what is my personal doubts? My doubts are basically related with Ron's age. The title said "16, 1/2". So, it is important that the reader feels that the main character acts like his real age. But Ron is too much of a child. The kind of reactions he have, the kind of thoughts he helds, are much more nearer a child with 12/13 years old. That is why I said in my review that I don't understand what possibly Luna can saw in a "child Ron".
So, this is my doubt regarding this fic. The fic has interest and value. And I think that is important to make this statement.
Maybe, just maybe, the problem lies in the fact that we have a notion that Ron is an immature guy. OK. But immaturity is not the same thing as acting in a way that is completely and too much childish.
Nevertheless, your fic shows that you have talent!
So, probably it is just a case of a reader that had a different set of expectations when he started to read the fic.
Dome 36
P.S. I am a male.
P.S. (2) I hope that you forgive my review. I never had the intention of hurting the author!

The fic is really funny, and I like that the H/Hr is sliight, and the development of R/Lu was pretty good. It felt right for the way the characters were being portrayed. The diary reads the way 16 year old boys speak. If I transcribed a conversation between my brother and his friends, it would probably read a lot like this fic. Te fic is really good, and definitely a good intro to the R/Lu ship.
I agree with Dome36 though. I started the fic, and then gave up because I thought that Ron was acting kind of OOC. (post-OoTP Ron) He seemed a bit off. My problem with it was that, it didn't feel like I was reading his diary, or really getting inside his head. I guess I thought that it sounded too much like how boy's speak, and not enough how they feel.

Dome 36: I can't speak for Petunia, of course, but since I am an author myself, I appreciate your post

I shall add my two bits to it, though:
Petunia is female. Guys often have problems understanding what's going on in girl's heads, but often they don't see that it is not exactly easy to guess for us what's going on in men's heads either. I've tried to write a story telling the thoughts of a male person myself, and had it not been smut people would have noticed that it was probably very inaccurate

You cannot expect a female person to know what's going on in the head of a sixteen year old boy. We only know what we see

I have a brother who is sixteen now, and believe me, he could not have deep thoughts, even if he tried real hard. The most philosophical thing he could sprout would be if he read the title (I will not overestimate him and say the whole dissertation) of Wittgenstein's
Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus. Even though I know that not all boys are like this, but I've noticed with more boys than not that their brains turn to mush during those agonizing years of puberty. If they're not talking about women's anatomy, it's probably computers or parts of the female body (did I already say that? Oh, well). Don't get me wrong: I'm not ranting about boys. Girls can be annoying as hell too, in that age, but not in the same way as boys.

You know, even if Ron was acting like a 12/13 year old (which I don't think he does) I wouldn't find this surprising. We're talking about Luna Lovegood here, after all, who reads books upside down for no reason at all, and, well, the hats...
Those are just my humble thoughts on all this

I haven't been on this forum for a wee while and didn't realise there had been further comments - so, sorry, I wasn't ignoring you!
Thanks for responding on my behalf
Szaranea - I very much agree!
Just to respond to
Dome and
Story645, I completely understand your points about his immaturity in this fic and that it might seem a little OOC post-OoTP.
To be perfectly, perfectly honest, I really meant this fic as a bit of fun. I did try to make Ron more mature, but he kept coming out the way he does! And he is
slightly based on a friend of mine, who is well into his twenties, and still is pretty much a teenage boy: football, boobs and beer are the main considerations!
I'm well aware that there are many, many boys of this age who are infinitely more mature than the character I've written. But they say 'write what you know' and in my experience (I have a younger brother too!) Ron is an exaggeration of a lot of my male friends. As for girls being attracted to immature boys - believe it or not, it happens all the time! (is this a weird mothering instinct? I don't know)
Also, the diary is not intended to be an exposition of Ron's deepest emotions. If it was to delve into that area, it would be a different kind of fic altogether, and I'm sure someone else would do a much better job.
And the OOC-ness: yes I can see that it could be seen that way. Although he does have his immature moments in OoTP as well as his mature ones: for instance, his reaction to Harry having kissed Cho...rolling on the rug, fist in the air, giggling like a maniac...
Anyway, I'm going to get on with chapter 3 now -

I've just been on holiday in Munich and Salzburg - beautiful, beautiful! - so I haven't been writing anything. Too much lovely German weiss bier and bratwurst.

I've been keeping up with this since you first wrote it, and I must say that it is hilarious! I have to be careful not to read it at work or people will look at me funny when I laugh out loud!
I was really pleased to see that you had put up chapter three, but one thing I was a little disappointed to see was that Ron has now found out about Harry and

Hermione. To me, one of the funniest parts of the "story", was when Ron kept going on about Harry and Hermione going off together and him being so clueless; when she would be "reading to him" in the dorm room, or helping him "put up his laundry", or even the little glances that Ron misinterpreted.
[/END SPOILER]
I just thought those moments were what really made the story.
Don't get me wrong. I still think there is a lot that can be done for this to be really funny: Snape's infatuation with Ron; Ginny & Malfoy; Ron and his prefect woes. And of course, he needs to open his eyes and see that Luna's been right there all the time!!
Keep up the good work! I can't wait until April's entries!
