sorcerer.gif Okay my darling fellow L/J shippers, we have read and/or written our fair share of Lily and James scenes and have found some line or some moment that made up laugh out loud laugh.gif or get all misty wub.gif when we read it.

I think we should all find our favorite moment from a Lily/James fan fic that we think is supurb IOHP and post the quote (preferably with the title and author for the sake of credit and reference in case someone wants to read it too).

It'll be fun and we get to share the stuff that amuses us so!

I'll post mine as soon as I find my fave scene (know it's around here somewhere...) blush.gif

Oy!Angelina:

(first of all: LOVE your username!!)

Well, I *do* have a favorite James/Lily moment, but. . . I can't tell you right now! I am in the middle of judging a fanfiction contest and I came across a reeeeally great moment-- but we're still in the middle of judging, so I don't know if I should post it. . .

But . . . I reeeally like it . . .

Oh. . .

FINE, okay, I'll post it:

This was written by the delightful Ari Munami

(James is in love with Lily, but can't even look at her without loosing it! So the Maruders are trying to lend him a helping hand . . .)

HOGSMEADE.

“Oi, James- isn’t that your lady love over there in the corner with two of her rather attractive friends?” Sirius asked.

James looked. Indeed it was Lily, looking all pretty and pink-cheeked and laughing over a butterbeer in a corner of the Three Broomsticks. James sighed rather wistfully.

Sirius was looking at him incredulously. “James, why don’t you just go over there and talk to her?”

“Are you joking? How obvious would that be?!”

“So, basically, you don’t want her to know you like her,” put in Peter

“Exactly,” answered James triumphantly. At last, someone who understood the situation!

Remus, Peter and Sirius all snorted uncontrollably.

“That is actually the stupidest thing I have ever heard,” said Remus.

“Look, Jamesie- she’s getting up! She needs another drink! Now’s your time to swoop in!” continued Sirius.

“Will you stop staring at her!” growled James. “She’ll see you!”

Sirius smirked. “That’s actually the point,” he said.

Lily had just collected a new tankard of butterbeer when she seemed to sense someone watching her. She looked round and saw Remus, who gave her a smile and beckoned her to come over. She smiled back and weaved her way around all the customers to where the Marauders were sitting.

“Hi,” she smiled at them all. James couldn’t even look her in the face.

“Sit down for a bit, Lily,” said Remus quickly, seeing James was steadfastly ignoring her. “Erm… let me introduce you to everyone. This is Peter…”

“Hello,” said Peter, blushing quietly.

“…This is Sirius…”

Sirius kissed Lily’s hand. “Charmed,” he grinned. Lily giggled.

“…and James.”

“Hi,” James muttered, still looking at the tabletop.

Lily looked at James. “I should be angry with you,” she said smilingly.

James’s heart dropped in his chest. “Erk?” he managed to squeak.

“You beat Ravenclaw in the Quidditch match!” she explained.

“Oh,” said James. “Er,” he continued, extremely eloquently.

“So, Lily,” Remus said hastily trying to get her attention away from the utter prat James was being, “what have you bought today?”

“Well, I went to Zonko’s and…”

Meanwhile, Sirius was hissing at James, “what are you doing? This is the perfect opportunity to get her to notice you!”

“Shut up!” James hissed back.

Lily was still talking. “I thought that prank you played on Professor McGonagall was hilarious!” she said. “You know, when she had all those little pink ribbons in her hair…”

“Oh, James came up with that one, didn’t you, Jamesie-boy?” lied Sirius quickly. James took a huge gulp of butterbeer to steady his nerves.

“Did you?” asked Lily, beaming, “because I wanted to ask you what variation of charm you used, and…”

But James’s butterbeer had gone down the wrong way. He started to cough, turning bright red. Sirius patted him on the back. This made it worse. Suddenly, he sprayed butterbeer all over the front of Lily’s nice clean robes. She jumped back, looking very disgusted.

“I’m really sorry!” yelled James, jumping up and trying to rub Lily’s robes for her with the sleeve of his own.

Lily didn’t look too pleased, to say the least. “It’s really alright,” she said, trying to bat his hand away.

“No, really- I don’t know what happened!”

“Well… I’m going to go now, anyway,” she said. “See you later, Remus.” She stood up, gave them all a slight half-smile, and went back to her friends.

The Marauders looked at James.

“The nearest wall is over there, James,” supplied Sirius, pointing it out.

“The table’s more convenient,” answered James, as he slowly started to bang his head against it.

Okay, I found something I want to quote because if made me laugh in hystarics for some daft reason when I first read it.

This is from Escape by Bella Black which is a pretty good fic if you're looking for some particularly insane dialogue exchanges but it's a typicaly love/hate where James is this major prat who can't seem to keep his pants on along with other cliches user posted image(see my Snogwarts: A Parody for the full list). Still, I thought this Lily/James banter was fun.

"Lily, you can't ignore me forever," James said, He couldn't ignore her for a minute. The water was boiling.

"Yes, I can. Add the lacewings," Lily commanded.

"No, you can't. Lily, you're too sexy to ignore me," James shot back.

"I told you, hitting on me isn't going to make me stop hating you. I'll always hate you. Now, add the lacewings," Lily said.

"Sweetheart, I'm not hitting on you. I'm simply stating the truth."

"So, are you saying that a sexy girl can't ignore you? Add the lacewings, Potter."

"Yeah. All I have to do is smile the right way, and they're falling for me."

"You haven't gotten me to fall for you, and you never will. Add the lacewings."

"It's just a matter of finding the right way to make you trip, love."

"Add the goddamn lacewings, Potter!" Lily growled. James added the lacewings.

"Temper, temper, Miss Evans. Although, I will say you look rather attractive when you're snarling at me."

"Asshole," Lily muttered, slapping him when he tried to slip an arm around her waist.

I need to find a sweet and tender scene to put up now? Would it be wicked of me to quote myself twisted.gif ?

Okay - this is one of my fave L/J scenes from the fic "Cruel Intentions" by Vanilla Blood on ff.net (based on the movie - REALLY AWESOME FIC). It's thier first kiss and I though it was cute. It's told from James' POV.

~**~

I hopped down the stairs and stood next to Lily. She looked up at me.

“Am I bothering you?” I asked.

“Not at all. Have a seat.” I sat down next to her in a squishy arm chair.

“Don't tell me you finished The Werewolf already?”

Lily nodded and I smiled, and then pointed at her book.

“Great book. What's the guy's name? Florentino...”

“Florentino Ariza.” Lily said. I fiddled around in my pocket for something.

“My friend Monsieur Philippe is a friend of Florentino.” I grinned,

“Who's Monsieur Philippe?” She grinned back.

“You don't know Monsieur Philippe?” I said, in mocked outrage. I took out a sock puppet.

“Bonjour mademoiselle.” I said in a low voice. Lily laughed.

“Bonjour Monsieur Philippe.” She said.

“You are very pretty. I would like to kiss you.” I put on the voice, and I made the puppet kiss her check.

“Oh, that felt good.” The puppet said. Lily blushed.

“Thank you.” She smiled. It kissed her on the cheek again.

“That felt good too. I will kiss you all over.” I attacked a Laughing Lily, the sock still on my hand. She playfully grabbed me and started to tickle me. I tickled her back. She laughed so hard she fell to the ground, pulling me with her. I landed on top of her. There was an awkward silence, and then I kissed her. She kissed me back. Then it intensified and she pushed me off her. I stood.

“I'm sorry about that.” I said, wiping my mouth. She looked at the ground.

“I am too.” Lily said.

Everyone should read this fic. I LOVE it smile.gif

One of my fave scenes is from a fic called Dreamland by Dreamable Tearhaired Bloomer, almost everyone in the school has a crush on James,... hehe. (Just to explain, Lily's best friend in this fic is a blue-haired girl called Deirdre... wassat.gif )

Lily and Deirdre were whispering excitedly, their original giggling bout overcome. That was when Deirdre saw James. She looked at him for one minute, then shook Lily by the shoulder. Lily started. "What is it, Dee?" she said.

"What an absolute dreamboat!" screech-whispered Deirdre.

"What? Who?" Lily whirled around. Her eyes widened. A pair of chocolate-brown eyes were locked on her own, belonging to a smiling face that was framed by the messiest, blackest hair she had ever seen. Two other boys were standing beside him, looking awed (in Remus’ case) and evil (in Sirius’ case) but neither Lily nor Deirdre noticed them. All their attention was locked on the... Boy. That was all Lily could think of to call him.

"Oh my god," Lily whispered. She felt like melting on the spot. "I know," hissed Deirdre from behind her. The Boy was looking at Deirdre and Lily. Then a small smile slipped across his lips, and he turned to his friends.

~*~*~
(this is at another part, after everyone's been Sorted)

"Why don’t you eat more?" Deirdre said.

"I—" James looked startled. Then he said, "I don’t know. I’m just not that much of an ‘eater.’ "

"Oh," Deirdre said, shrugging. How can she take this so easily? She’s actually talking to James Potter! Lily thought jealously. "It’s just, boys your age usually cram in the food."

"Wha’ d’you mean?" said the Pettigrew boy, talking with food in his mouth (it was positively gaping open). Lily wrinkled her nose almost without realizing it. James laughed, and he was starting to get more comfortable with these two girls. He even felt bold enough to say, "You look cute when you wrinkle your nose."

For a minute, Lily was mortified. Then she grinned smugly at Deirdre, and it was the smurf’s turn to shoot jealous looks at Lily while she conversed naturally with James.

Hehehe! Cute, no? ~chatterbox, a.k.a. kooky kimia~

Okay this is from one of my favourite Fanfic's of all time by Lilly Granger (it's on Snoogle.com for anyone who want's to know) And it's after Snape's had a Love Potion on Lilly.... (Oh and it's called Harry Potter and the time potion)

QUOTE
They started to walk around the lake. They weren't holding hands; as a matter of fact Lily seemed to want to keep at least 4 meters from James. He didn't mind. He was looking into her eyes. Tat shine that was usually in them was gone. Something was wrong. Maybe-

"Well, Potter, we must have walked around this damned lake 3 times already, and you still haven't said a word. What do you want, Potter?"

James cleared his throat. "Sweet Lily, I love you. There are no words to describe how much I love you. I love you so much it frightens me. I love you more than life itself. Please forgive me for whatever I've done."

Lily just stared at him. There was something about that stare that made him uneasy. She still didn't speak, so he continued.

"Do you love me, Lily?"

She stared at him. James looked like he was going to cry. "OK," he said. He pulled the something he had been fingering out of his pocket.

It was a knife.

Lily stared at it. What was he going to do?

"Good-bye, Lily," he said, holding the knife up to his throat. "I love you."

He closed his eyes and started to bring the knife backwards. Very slowly, it made contact with his skin as she watched in horror- there was a cut in his throat- he was bleeding-

"JAMES NO!" she screamed. She grabbed the knife from him by the blade- it cut her but she didn't care. She was crying hard.

"James Harold Potter, you stupid, stupid boy, you idiot! What in the world caused you to do this?"

"If I can't have you, life means nothing to me. I can't live without you. Give me the knife!" he said, grabbing for it.

"NO!!!!" she said, throwing the knife on the ground and stomping it in two. "You are not going to kill yourself, James Potter!"

"WHY NOT?"

"Because I love you!" she screamed, throwing her arms around him. "I love you more than I love anything else! I love you so much it hurts! And it upsets me to think that you thought I would do something like that to you!"

"But Lily- why? Why?" James whispered, hugging her so tight she thought she was going to explode.

"It was a love potion! James I'm so, so, so sorry... I tried to tell Harry- I'm so sorry!" she cried.

"Shh, it's okay, Lily," James said, "everything's okay as long as we're together." And he kissed her, gentle, sweet, soft kisses. And she kissed him back, long, passionate, heart-breaking kisses. They stood like that for a long time.

When they finally broke apart, James said, "Come on. We're going to Dumbledore."

Lily nodded. He gave her one last hug, and then they headed inside.

Don't you think it's adorable?????

Here's one of my favorites from "Cross road" by Emmmyjeans it's a bit long (and very mushy) but I couldn't cut it any shorter so here.

¡°A coward? Is that what you think of me?¡±<Lily>
He blew out a humorless, harsh laugh and replied, ¡°It¡¯s no worse than what you must think of me.¡±

She shook her head and simply began talking. She didn¡¯t think about what she was saying, only knew that she had to say it. Her tears spilled over as she spoke, and her voice broke every three words...but she kept talking.

¡°You have no idea what you¡¯re talking about. I¡¯m telling you, I can¡¯t do this right now! I don¡¯t know if you remember, but I¡¯ve just lost the only two people in the world that I could ever depend on. Do you know what that did to me, to my perception of things? Do you know what it did to my future?¡±

He straightened, realization and understanding visibly dawning in his eyes as he stared at her. She¡¯d not meant to reveal every single weakness she had here tonight...but it was to late now. She didn¡¯t worry about it, though¡she was too busy talking.

¡°I have nowhere to go and no one to depend on but myself. I can¡¯t afford to lose my focus...to lose myself to my emotions. Don¡¯t you understand this? I can¡¯t handle another emotional blow, and that¡¯s what it¡¯s going to be when you decide you¡¯re tired of putting up with all my problems! It¡¯s hard enough for me to give it all up now, and I don¡¯t even want to think about how I¡¯ll...what it¡¯ll be like in two months, when we leave here. I just...I can¡¯t do it, James. I can¡¯t.¡±

¡°Lily,¡± he cut in, and she thought she could hear his voice wavering. Shaking her head, she held up a hand and said,

¡°Look...the thing is, you don¡¯t have to handle all this. When I saw you standing with Anne today, I realized it...you should be with her. Or...someone like her...someone who¡¯s more suited to you. Someone who doesn¡¯t have all these problems.¡±

She didn¡¯t think she could get another word out of her mouth, and blew out a frustrated sob. Before she could turn away, he grabbed her hand tightly in his...and she could almost sense the change in his mood before she even turned around and looked at him. When she did, her suspicions were confirmed...his eyes had lost their edge, and he was now regarding her with an expression of what looked almost like...panic. Swallowing hard, he said in a substantially quieter voice,

¡°I can¡¯t believe you actually think...how could you believe that I¡¯d ever get tired of you? I just, I...I don¡¯t know what to say to that. I know that in the past week I...I¡¯ve been...I didn¡¯t want to push you to do anything you didn¡¯t feel ready to do. I didn¡¯t want to rush you...I thought that was what you wanted.¡±

She watched in amazement as the composed James Potter she had always known crumbled before her very eyes. She had never seen him like this before...ever. He was stumbling over his words, he couldn¡¯t say what he wanted to say, she could tell...she had been in that position many times. He looked frustrated, and his eyes betrayed a fear that was quickly getting the better of him. Fear of what, she couldn¡¯t say...or was too afraid to say for sure. He ran a hand through his hair, making it stick out in all directions, and Lily noticed his hand was shaking as he continued,

¡°I¡¯m just...I¡¯m so lost here, and I¡¯m sorry I lashed out at you before. The truth is, I have no idea what I¡¯m doing because I¡¯ve never been in this situation before. I...,¡± he took a breath and stepped a bit closer to her, his eyes boring into hers with an intensity that almost frightened her, ¡°I¡¯ve never felt like this about a girl before...about anyone at all. My feelings are...I don¡¯t even know what they are. Every time I think too hard about it, my chest starts to ache. I¡¯ve been scared to let you out of my sight this past week, because I just knew that you were reconsidering...but I had no idea why.¡±

She felt the tears welling up in her eyes again, and she looked away. He stepped closer still as if to compensate for the loss of eye contact and kept talking as though compelled to say everything as quickly as he could. This wasn¡¯t something he planned to tell her...it was obvious. It was as though he was trying to get everything out before she turned on her heel and walked out. She had no intention of doing this to him, but she couldn¡¯t deny that it was a temptation. It would be, in many ways, so much easier. He took a breath and seemed to get ahold of himself a bit, and then went on in a much clearer tone, although there was still urgency behind it.

¡°Lily, listen to me...you don¡¯t have to explain your problems to me. I know what they are...I¡¯ve known about them from the beginning. I never wanted to be another worry for you, or something else you were going to have to fear losing. I...that night I found you crying in the common room, all I could feel was the overwhelming need to just be there for you. I¡¯d never felt like that before...I wanted you to cry on my shoulder. I wanted to take care of you...you¡¯d never asked for help, especially not from me, but I wanted to be the one to give you what you needed. That...was the first time I admitted to myself that I had feelings for you that went beyond mere respect.¡±

She tried to process it all, tried to keep up with what he was telling her, but it was all becoming jumbled in her racing mind. Only the key parts stuck...but it was enough. She could feel her resolve starting to weaken. He went on in a slightly shaky, stilted voice,

¡°Have you ever known me to run away from something when it gets difficult? I don¡¯t do that. If it¡¯s something I feel strongly about, I stick to it. I fight for it...and I don¡¯t know what else to say to you except that I¡¯ve never felt such a motivation to succeed as I do with you. I...I¡¯m not going to just walk away. I don¡¯t know where you got the idea that I would, but...it¡¯s not going to happen.¡±

She squeezed her eyes shut and brought her hands up to cover her face. She couldn¡¯t believe what she was hearing...she couldn¡¯t believe the significance of everything he was saying to her. It was too much. Thinking she was trying to shut him out, he said in what sounded like half-desperation, half-defeat, ¡°Lily, please...don¡¯t do this to me. I don¡¯t know what I¡¯d do if you...if you walked out of here telling me you didn¡¯t want this. I want it so much I can¡¯t even...I feel like it¡¯s bigger than me. I¡¯d do anything you asked, anything you wanted...just don¡¯t do this.¡±

Expelling a shaky breath, she looked up to find him staring at her as though he close to tears himself. He was breathing heavily, his brows were drawn together slightly and he swallowed hard as she met his gaze. Their eyes locked for a moment, and then she let go of all her remaining reservations and stepped forward into his arms, which went up around her immediately as he heaved a sigh of relief. He held her so tightly to his chest that she began to worry that she¡¯d suffocate, and then he loosened his grip a bit so that he could lean back and look her in the face. She lifted her head, and before she could think anything else he was kissing her.

For the first time, she allowed herself to actually become lost in the simple contact of his lips on hers...the kiss was deep and full of emotion, but gentle and unforceful at the same time. It was sweet and powerful...and she knew she¡¯d made the right decision. It was really the only decision she¡¯d made in the past few months that she actually felt completely confident about...she was scared, but not enough to throw it all away. She was less scared now than she had been before they¡¯d talked, that was certain. All too soon, he pulled back, and she rested her head against his chest. She felt him sigh again, and contented herself with listening to his quiet heartbeat beneath her ear.

I heartily agree that Emmyjean's "Crossroads" is one of the best fanfictions I've ever come across. Ever.

And since I can't use it, *sigh*, I'll plug Oy! Angie's. user posted image Here, from "Pensieve," Ch. 8.

QUOTE
Sitting alone in the Gryffindor attic, Lily was the first to glance back as James. Forearm rested over a knee, James stared into the vast mosaic of stars with a soft blue light looking back. He hand ran through the length of his hair, something Lily had picked up was a nervous twitch. Absorbed in whatever thoughts he was entertaining, James expression reminded Lily of someone lost to some stretch of ocean who was always keeping his eyes open for the first sign of land. It was then she saw James Potter for the first time along with everything he struggled to keep hold of and everything he tried to keep at bay.

As James brought his wand hand down from his head, Lily took it into her own.

It was his expression that changed first. Eyes wide, but not looking at her. Lily found her analogy of the sea to be even more true as James appeared to have just seen whatever it was he had been long searching for. It was with a blink he turned back to her and Lily saw something in James's eyes that she had never seen before and wasn't sure she'd ever see again.

* * *

Caught in a waking dream, James felt himself gently squeeze Lily's hand and realized he had never seen her look more beautiful to him than at that moment. She wasn't gliding down a corridor like the embodiment of grace or laughing with every last strand of her coppery hair flowing harmoniously about or even regal and brilliant as she preformed perfectly in a lesson.

In fact, Lily had never looked more insecure, vulnerable, or disoriented as she did just then.

Figuring he wasn't in a much better state himself, James started to act in the only way he could think to, the only way he wanted to. Pulling her hand slightly towards him, James forced Lily to lean in slightly and he moved to meet her part way. Raising his other hand to the side of her face, James guided Lily closer to his own, never once seeing a hint of hesitation or resistance flicker over her transfixed expression. And once Lily's beautiful green eyes slowly feel shut, James closed his own and met her lips with his.

Her mouth opened with either a gasp or a sigh and James took this as an invitation to deepen the kiss. Although this was not his first kiss, it was hard to remember what they could have been like before it. The only thing James could say for certain was that he knew the rapture and contentment he was experiencing with Lily Evans had never been apart of all the ones before. And for possibly the simplest form of physical intimacy two people could share, James had never felt anything more gratifying in all his life.

Still holding her with both his hands, James realized the thing that would be most important about this kiss in whatever would come after it was not that he had been the first to kiss her.

But that she had kissed him back.

It's a doozy, that story is. That girl can WRITE!

There are others as well, but I should leave those for another time.

Okay. This is from Molly Moon's Arrival Unexpected. A bit of a warning though, if you haven't read it this is close to the last scene so it could give away a small plot that is completely *sigh* worthy. It's my favorite L/J scene though so that is why I am posting it:

More than just her cozy bed was waiting as she rounded the corner..

"James?" asked Lily curiously. The tall black haired wizard was sitting up against her door, and from the amount of time it took him to stand up as she approached, Lily guessed that he´d been there for some time.

"Took you long enough, didn´t it?" James, now standing, smirked down at her.

Lily smiled. "Sorry to keep you waiting. How long have you been here anyway?"

"Got back after lunch." James replied cryptically.

"Got back from where?" asked Lily. She made a move for the doorknob and James placed his hand on top of hers, preventing her from opening the door. She looked up at him and raised her eyebrows questioningly.

"From... somewhere other than here." He shrugged again and smirked.

"Right... can I go into my room then?" Lily glanced at their hands, and the doorknob they covered meaningfully.

"Not quite yet. Got you a present." With his free hand, James reached into the pocket of his robe and drew out a bottle of Butterbeer. "Remember our deal?"

Lily giggled and took the Butterbeer. "Ah yes, another Butterbeer and hence another dance." She looked up at him expectantly, but James just continued to smile at her. "Can I open the door now?"

"Surely, as long as you understand our deal and intend to keep your promise." James stepped back and gestured grandly towards the door, encouraging her to open it.

"Yes, yes. A dance for every Butterbeer." Lily had her back to the door now and stepped into her room backwards at first. She liked looking at him; it seemed a shame to stop just because she was entering her old familiar room. His eyes were twinkling softly in the dim light of the hallway.

"Best watch your step." James nodded towards the interior of her room.

"What--" Lily spun around just then and her mouth dropped open. On every flat surface, completely filling her entire room were bottles upon bottles of Butterbeer. Her desk was all but invisible under the neatly stacked beverages. The floor was awash with them as well, aside from a small path that had been kept clear so she could reach her bed. "James, what on earth?"

He slid his arms around her, and bent low so that the words came directly from his lips to her ear, like a soft caress. "I don´t want just one dance, Lily. I want them all."

Shivers rushed down her spine, and she flushed to the roots of her hair. The urge to melt into his arms was incredible, but somehow she resisted. "You want them all?"

He spun her around then, so that they were facing each other. James was still holding her. "Yes. Not just one dance, and not just one night of dancing. I want all of them."

Her heart began to race, and her head began to spin. "I see then," She looked up and met his eyes finally. "Is this the part where I am supposed to go weak at the knees?"

James smirked, and pushed a stray lock of red hair away from her face. "Well, you could swoon if you´d rather. But it would make kissing you seem terribly one sided then."

"Kissing me?" Lily feigned shock and tried to pull back. James held her tightly though. "I certainly don´t remember kissing being part of our bargain..."

James leaned in and brushed his lips against her cheek. "It´s in the fine print." He murmured.

"Blasted fine print, catches a girl off guard every time." Lily snorted. She wiggled free of him finally and cautiously made her way across her Butterbeer laden room to her bed. She sat down and surveyed her room again. "This... This is a lot of Butterbeer, James. I... I don´t know if I´m ready to accept all of this."

James snickered at her subtext. "Well, you don´t have to drink it all tonight Lily." He crossed the room and joined her on her bed. "But this is what I´m willing to give. All I ask is that you keep your part of the deal."

"A dance for each Butterbeer." Lily said almost solemnly.

James nodded. "And I promise that as long as you want to dance, I´ll always have a Butterbeer waiting for you."

I'm going on an old-topic-posting streak right now, so just, yeah, ignore me... this scene's from 'Crazy For This Girl' by rinoaJ. It's on fanfiction.net if anyone wants to have a look at it...

QUOTE
"We should do this again," James said, taking her hand and looking at her, his warm brown eyes crinkling with merriment.

"We should," Lily agreed absently, smiling slightly.

James grinned wickedly. "Couldn’t resist me now, can you Lily-kins?"

"Urgh, don’t flatter yourself. But yes, I had fun." Lily stopped and tiptoed to kiss James’ cheek. "You’re amazing, you know that?"

James felt his heart flutter. "Aren’t I always?" he asked softly.

Lily laughed. "Always." She looked up at him. "Ray never sneaked me out anywhere. I think it has to do with him being Ravenclaw…"

"And you’re certainly more interesting than Marjorie," James said, wrinkling his nose at the thought of the squealing Hufflepuff.

They came to a bench near the Shrieking Shack, and James placed a drying charm on it to rid the snow so they could sit down. They sat in silence for a few moments, James leaning his head against hers, looking at the brightly-coloured fairies frolic in the snow. Lily loved the feeling – a quiet, comfortable silence, with the warmth radiating from the boy she adored…

Adored. Where did that come from? Lily blinked slightly, frowning at the thought. Alright, I do adore James… who wouldn’t?

"Don’t leave me, Lily," James said softly, his voice low and slightly rough. He cleared his throat and lifted his head to look at Lily.

"W-What?" Lily stammered, taken by surprise.

"Don’t leave me." James buried his head on her shoulder. "Promise?"

"I… I’m not going anywhere," Lily said quickly. "Hey, you okay?"

"I’m scared everyday you’ll leave me and go marry someone else," James mumbled, but Lily could sense he was smiling at his own silliness. "How can I cope if you walk down the aisle with another guy?"

Lily smiled. "I never said I’d get married."

James laughed. "Marry me?" he suggested.

"Oh god, you are sick."

"Sick?" James said indignantly. "You’ll be even sicker to reject my proposal. I mean, I have quality. The girls want me, the guys… well, except for Sirius, want to be me." He nudged her suggestively. "What do you say?"

"Why me?"

"What?"

"James – seriously. Why me? There are prettier girls out there."

James looked thoughtful. "That’s a good question."

Lily felt a spurt of indignation rise in her, but the look in James’ eyes made her stay quiet. He was looking at her as studiously, tapping his chin absently.

"I think," James said quietly, still looking at Lily, tilting his head slightly, "other than the fact that all of the male population in Hogwarts agree you’re gorgeous, it is the pure and simple reason you’re the sweetest girl I’ve ever come to know."

"Sweet?" Lily looked bewildered. "But I never – "

"Sure, you slapped me on the very first day we met, and I didn’t like you much at that first sight," James continued, smiling at the memory. "But remember when you pushed me into the lake on the third day, and I developed a high fever and flu?" he looked almost dreamy now. "You sneaked in at night, didn’t you, when you thought I was asleep? You left a basket of chocolate frogs and mumbled you were very sorry, then pulled the covers over me?"

Lily had turned white from embarrassment. "You were awake?"

"I was. And that’s pretty much how I knew deep inside you weren’t such a heartless creep – hey!" James rubbed his arm, where Lily had smacked him, "Well, you behaved like one! What was I to think? But anyway, yeah. I simply loved the way you could carry a conversation with me about Quidditch, unlike most girls. And you’re so beautiful…" he smiled at her as she blushed. "Oh, come on, Lily, you know you’re stunning. But I think the night you visited me at the Infirmary really sealed it. I had the craziest crush on you for that… then I guess… I sorta took it from there."

"I didn’t know," Lily said quietly.

"Of course you didn’t, you never liked me," James said, pretending to be hurt. He glanced at his watch. "Oh, no - We have to get back now, Lils. Come on."

He stood up and extended his hand. Lily took it, and they headed back to Honeydukes together, James’ words ringing in her head. Back at Hogwarts, James accompanied Lily back to her room in the girls’ dormitories, and they stopped before her door.

"Well," Lily said nervously, smiling at him slightly.

James kissed her lightly. "Night," he said softly. "Don’t stay up too late, okay?"

Lily nodded, stepping into the room. "Goodnight."

He leaned down and whispered into her ear. "I’ll dream of you." With that, he smiled fondly at her, and turned to leave.

She watched as James headed down the hallway toward the door to the common room. She didn’t know why, but she called after him. "James!"

He turned, looking surprised.

"I…" what was she going to say? "I… well… I’ll dream of you, too." Lily felt herself blush again, and she bit her lip as she watched for James’ reaction.

James smiled mischievously. "Sexy, erotic dreams of me now, Lily? Can’t resist me for long, can you?"

my favourite LJ scene is from sunrsie. here is the bit i most like, just the quote at the end.

QUOTE
"Is Harry asleep?" James asked when she pulled back from him. She wasn't sure when he had slept last. The dark circles under his eyes couldn't even be hidden behind his glasses.

"He wouldn't take a nap this afternoon so I put him to bed early. I'm sure he'll be up again later," she said and watched as James closed his eyes, looking as if he wanted to do nothing more than sleep himself. "Would you like something to eat? Or would you rather get some rest?"

"I'm too tired to eat," James said, opening his eyes and staring at her. "I'd rather go to bed"

"Okay," Lily said, stepping away and turning towards the kitchen. She still had the dishes to do from the dinner she made for Harry and herself.

"With you," he said and Lily stopped. Looking at him, she realized it was the first time she had seen him smile in weeks.

and the next bit

QUOTE
The house was quiet as they held on to each other. As tired as they both were, neither of them could sleep more than a few minutes at a time. Even the most gentle noise stirred Lily from her sleep and she wished Harry's crib was still in their room. It was one of those maternal beliefs that nothing could possibly happen to him if he was in sight.

"You seem more worried than usual tonight. What's wrong?" James asked, kissing the back of one of her hands. He went back to playing with her fingers, wrapping his around hers.

the whole story is fantastic but i think those have to be my favourite quotes.

This is taken from the first L/J fic I ever read. Incidentally, it's the one that got me hooked! From "Something Like Love" by Kelsey:
[QUOTE]They were heading silently towards the doors of the station when Lily heard her name being cried urgently in the far distance. She turned, balancing Chloris’s cage on her trunk as James Potter continued running towards her.

She stepped away from Petunia, who muttered disgustedly that she was giving Lily two minutes to get to the car or she’d just take off to the hospital herself. Lily waved her distractedly away.

James was leaping agilely, albeit comically, over trunks and cages and even people. He nearly tripped a couple of times, but eventually came to stand right in front of her. Before she even had a chance to think, his arms were around her waist and his lips were on hers.

Her hands went up to his hair as he supported her in his arms. He opened her mouth tentatively with his tongue and she inhaled the taste of Chocolate Frogs and something minty and a warmness that was indescribably James. Just as she was getting lost in the feel of his soft hair and the warm skin of his neck and the incredibly moist tenderness of his mouth, she forced herself to suddenly pull back, her eyes wide as she wiped her lips.

"James, I don’t think – "

His arms crept away from her waist to fling themselves in the air exasperatedly. "I broke, Lily, I admit it! We’re going crazy avoiding each other and watching each other and wanting each other and I admit it!" Her brow furrowed as he cupped his mouth with his hands. "Hey, everyone!" he called out, and the few people remaining in the station turned. "See this girl right here?" He pointed to Lily, whose hand was now permanently over her mouth in shock. A couple of people nodded dazedly. "I want her! I confess that I want her and need her and I can’t go on without her!" He turned back to her, his breathing ragged. "I don’t hate you, Lily Evans. Hating you is about the farthest thing from my mind right now."

She smiled, pulling him to her. In another second, their mouths were together again. She cupped his chin in her hands before standing on her tiptoes and kissing his nose. "I was just going to say that I don’t think we have time for this. My sister’s going to leave me."

"Oh…well…" He smiled sheepishly and she grinned in return.

"I liked your first answer better." She grabbed Chloris’s empty cage, straightened up, and walked quickly out of the station, turning back every few meters to find James still standing there with his trunk, smiling. "Owl me, James Potter! Owl me this summer and I’ll see you next year!"

He nodded as his driver continued to wait patiently by the doors Lily had just disappeared out of in a flurry of red hair, green eyes, sparkling smiles, and incredible kisses. He touched his own lips curiously as he laughed softly. "See you next year, Lily Evans," he repeated softly, before picking up his own trunk and leaving King’s Cross Station.

I know this thread o mine fell out of circulation but I thought it might be good for people interested in reading some good quotes/scenes from fav. fics. I'm sure some new blood had been introduced and classics are always good to look back on.

So, have at it! What you guys been reading and what's stuck out in your heads? biggrin.gif

This was one of my first L/J fics I ever read...and I think it was the one that got me hooked! this is pre OotP, and James' father is a death eater. Here it is - The Strongest Magic I Posses, Jessie xxx (on FF.N)
~~~~~~~~~~~~
James was dancing with Lily. He was happy, content and in a complete bliss, just staring into her beautiful emerald eyes. Then his world came crashing down. Severus Snape was talking to his father. They laughed, then their expressions grew serious. Snape pointed to James, then Lily, James' father began to look angry, his face grew red and steam began to pour from his ears.
"James Potter!" He roared, completely loosing his cool. He didn't seem to notice the music had stopped and everyone was listening.
"Yes sir?" James answered.
"The girl your with,"
"Lily."
"Yes, Severus informs me she's a mudblood."
"Not a Mudblood!" James could feel his temper rising. "But yes she is of muggle heritage."
"How dare you lower your self and the family name to that level, how dare you embarrass us like this!" He moved ever so close to James. "Well boy what do you have to say for yourself?"
"Nothing, I am not ashamed, embarrassed or anything of the sort!" To the crowd's amazement, Robert Potter, thumped James hard on the cheek. Lily rushed over to him and helped him up. "No father, that will not work now, not ever! You can hit me, curse me, hex me as much as you want! It will never make me leave Lily! I love her!" Lily gasped and looked at him, tears in her eyes. How could his father be so cruel?
"Really?" She asked.
"Really!" He replied.
"Enough with this nonsense! You are 17 years old boy. You do not know what love is!"
"Ow I know what love is. Love is when your heart stops every time you see that person, Love is when you would do anything for that smile, that touch or that kiss. Love is wanting to spend eternity with that person. Love is doing something you don't want to, just to see that person smile. Love is standing up to your father, who you know will hurt you, who you know will kill you, who you know is wrong! You are the one who doesn't know what love is! You married my mother because you were forced to, for her money and her status. You had a fling with someone who got pregnant. You stole that child from her and she was never heard of again. You then had two more children along with a wife, whom you hit and cursed. You only love one thing, and that is your self!"
"Why you little..." he pulled out his wand.
"Expellerus!" Lily shouted. Robert Potter was flung across the room, then tackled by several ministry officials, including Jonathan Black. Everyone else stared at Lily she had said a simple spell, strong enough to throw a grown man across the room and disarm him. But most of all, she did it with out the use of a wand.
But Lily didn't notice the attention she had been receiving. She had turned to James. And held him. He was shaking.
"I did it, I did it! I actually stood up to him! Merlin knows what he would have done if you hadn't stopped him."
"James calm down. It's ok." Lily soothed. "Your mother would have been proud." She reassured him. He was grateful, for that. It was all he needed.
"I love you so much, Lil's." He said.
"I love you too." She replied, a grin locked across her face. He looked up at her, his eyes wide, shinning full of happiness. James embraced Lily in a tight hug, kissing her all the while.
Am I allowed to put a scene from a yet-to-be-posted fic? I'm rather fond of one of my scenes, (LOL, is that allowed?) and I wanted to share it. However, the fic is turning out to be longer than I anticipated, so it might be a while til I get to share it otherwise, and it's almost bursting!
Is this the place to do share this, or should I start a new thread? Or should I not post it at all?
EDIT: WAIIIIIT! I just realized this isn't the place to do post it. The place to post it is in the Cookies forum. I'll go do that now. very sorry! **scurries away**
Hi, there. I'm new here. I couldn't resist adding a few lines of a James/Lily scene from Solarism's 'Deconstruct, A Memior'. I love this story. This is from the end of a long conversation and these particular lines just stuck in my head.
I stuck out my hand, and James met me half way. We shook hands slowly and emerald met hazel as I stared him down, the plastered on smile never leaving my lips.
“Hi,” I said in a small voice. “You’re James Potter, aren’t you?”
“Yes,” he said back, a smile lighting up his handsome face. “And you’re Lily Evans.”
“I am,” I said. “You make a new girl fall in love with you every day.”
“And you,” said James, “find a new way every single second to make me remember that I used to have so much better than this.”
I let go of his hand.
“See you later, friend,” I said.
“Bye Lily,” said James.
Lily and James is one of the best couples I think smile.gif
angelsflame
I found this story at timeturner.net, the author is Daze and here is the scene
~~~~~~~~~~~

“M-Merlin…” he whispered to himself, “She said yes.”

He turned to his best friends confusedly. “She said yes?”

They only sniggered in reply.

He turned back to his Lily.

“You said yes?” he asked incredulously.

She nodded her head. Her mouth now carried an amused expression.

Sirius decided to speak up. “It’s okay, Prongs. I wouldn’t have believed it either if I didn’t hear it with my own three ears.” He gestured to the two on the side of his face, and the one hidden on James’ cloak.

James looked dumbly from Lily, to his friends, and back to Lily’s shyly smiling face. A moment later, reality washed over him, sending a warm sensation through his veins. He swallowed hard. His chest constricted and called for oxygen. His mind hoisted itself on a broomstick and flew away.

And it felt good.

With an impulsive whoop of joy he grabbed her hand in his, wrapped the other around her waist, and spun her around in a jovial dance. Lily let out a startled cry, and then laughed out loud as she joined him in his strange manifestation of happiness.

“Better get a shot of that Moony,” Sirius remarked loudly over his shoulder. “Something to remember him by before we take him to St Mungo’s.”

“D’ya hear that fellas?” James cried for the entire world to hear, “Lily Evans is going to marry me!”

As the autumn leaves danced along with the happy pair, Remus clicked his camera.
The air rang with a harmonious blend of whooping and cheering and laughter. They twirled around once more before James stopped and held her hand to his chest, their heads rested against each other.

Here's this thing I wrote. I found it lovely even if I can never work it into a fic.

***
The sky was grey and bleak, fittingly depressing. Then again, Lily shouldn’t have been depressed, after all, Sirius had finally apologized to her. It’s not right though, she mused, something about it isn’t right. She tried to forget the tiny part of her that hissed He’s not James.

She kept walking, not knowing in what direction her feet were leading her. All she knew was that they would take her somewhere that she could not have to look at James face as Sirius bent over to kiss her. All around her, the earth seemed to be lit with an unearthly glow: the sky was dark as night but somehow she could still see where she was: the quidditch pitch. Lily knew that it took a good time to get back to her dorm from here…what would happen if…?

A crack of thunder answered her question, and sheets of rain began pouring down, engulfing Lily in a torrential downpour that soaked her within moments. She was about to turn on her heel and run back to her dorm, but stopped for a moment. The rain…it was smooth it was calm and it washed over her like a wave of relief. Icy cold, it numbed her body so that she couldn’t do much more but stand, looking up at the sky and letting it dance along her body. The drops rolled off her chin, off her nose and down her cheeks clearing her of everything but the rain: how soft and forgiving it was! For what might have been the happiest moment all year, Lily stood still, not caring who saw her just…not caring at all.

The buckets of rain managed to darken her vision, so that all she could see was a faint outline of a person. But that was all she needed to see to know that it was James. She grinned in spite of herself, feeling her hair plastered to her forehead and knowing that streaks of black ran down her eyes like spider’s threads. She was happy now, and she wasn’t going to let anyone ruin such a perfect moment. James looked as lost as she did, his usually tousled hair flattened so that he seemed smaller and shirt hung off him in a strange fashion so that it looked three sizes too big. He trudged slowly through the sodden ground and stood facing her, his hands in his pockets.

“Lily,” he said above the roar. His neck stretched ever so slightly like the effort of the words he was saying weighing upon them both. “What are you doing here?”

“Don’t you like the rain?” She challenged, closing her eyes to the heavens. She smiled at him, the wet water dripping down onto her teeth and making her words sound as though they were underwater.

James reached out and brushed a small strand of hair out of Lily’s eyes. Without answering he moved closer, leaning in, until his body pressed neatly against hers. They fit together like the puzzle box Lily had when she was smaller: it wouldn’t open until the pieces were in the right place. In the brief, shining instant before he kissed her, Lily saw her reflection in James’ eyes. She looked frightened and small, but there she was. She was herself and James knew it. His kiss, his kiss was unlike any other she had ever felt. Every move, every second he was touching her made her feel like her heart wanted to burst out of her chest. For the first time, Lily felt it was right to close her eyes as she wound her hands behind James’ back, pressing them against his neck and bringing him closer, closer to her. She wanted to sleep, she wanted to scream but most of all she just wanted to kiss James again. Forever wasn’t long enough.

***

Here's another short one that I didn't write, but I loved it anway.

***

Lily was making pie. She hummed lightly to herself, an old hymn her mother had taught her when she was a little girl, and smiled as she worked. Lily loved to bake very much.

James came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her pregnant belly, pressing his laughing face into her shoulder. “Hello, my dear,” he said, though his voice was somewhat muffled by her dress.

Lily let out a peal of surprised laughter, whirling around and giving him a great big kiss.

“Hello, love,” she said, her green eyes sparkling.

“I’ve missed you,” said James.

“I’ve missed you too,” Lily grinned. “Oh!” she put her hand to her enlarged stomach. “And so has the baby, apparently.”

“Do we know yet? Boy or girl? Have the results arrived…?”

“We know,” Lily said proudly. She was practically beaming.

“Well?” James asked, his whole face glowing with excitement.

“Get ready for this,” said Lily. “It’s a boy!”

“A boy!” James shouted. He burst into laughter and planted a passionate kiss on his young wife’s lips, pressing her back into the counter where the pie dough sat, long forgotten.

At that moment, Lily and James Potter were the happiest couple alive.

By Solarism.

*sighs* I love Lily and James together.

Here's a bit from "Four Little Words" by Suns Golden Rays, one of my favorite authors. Be sure to read her whole Lily and James series, they're fabulous! Anyway, in this one, James is having trouble proposing to Lily, and here's him talking to Sirius after a failure.

QUOTE
"You. Are a chicken-######, Prongs, plain and simple," Sirius glowered at him. They had just returned from a mini-battle with three Death Eaters. Lily was still helping out at the safe house, and Sirius and James stopped back in at work to jot down some quick paperwork, but before they even got to sit down, Sirius had rounded on James. "It's not that hard. It's four tiny little words-"

"I know."

"Say them with me," Sirius leaned against James desk and played with a rubber band. "Will. You. Marry. Me. Easy, huh?"

"The clouds threw me off," James muttered, playing with his fingernails.

"Clouds?" Sirius stared at him incredulous. "What the bloody hell do clouds have to do with a marriage proposal."

"Well, you know you told me to do that whole ‘stars are your eyes-'"

"You aren't going to try to stand there and tell me that you couldn't think of something else to say..."

"Yeah," James blushed.

"Prongs....you're....bloody impossible!" Sirius sighed. "You're acting sixteen again!"

"In case you didn't know, I'm nineteen. Which is three years older than sixteen."

"Yes, Prongs, I did know, as I am currently the same age. But at sixteen, you couldn't be in the same room as Lily without making a complete arse out of yourself. You've been dating her for a year and a half, what is so different?"

"I dunno...it's... a big step?" James tried.

"You're chicken ######, is what you are. Chicken. ######."

"Chicken ######," repeated a child's voice from the ground. James and Sirius looked down and blinked. A small red-head was staring up at them, curiously.

"The hell is that?" Sirius sputtered.

"It's a kid, Padfoot."

"Is it yours?"

James glared at Sirius. "Where'd you come from, kid?" James asked.

"Chicken ######," he repeated, giggling at James.

"Yes, we know he is," Sirius chuckled, amused. "But where did you come from?"

"Chicken ######."

"Great job, Padfoot," James glared at him. "Now you've ruined the kid."

Suns Golden Rays's stories are really good! They're funny, and very well-thought out! The bad word was blocked out by the filters, but you get the idea, right?

Also, if anyone finds Dreamland by Dreamable Tearhaired Bloomer, which was mentioned earlier, I'd love to have the link... happy.gif
