Well! I'm new to this board, but not new at all to D/G, which is by far my favorite ship. I must confess i am awful at writing, so i mostly read and review. But I've noticed a few things and i want to see if others will clear them up!

1)- The color of Ginny's eyes! I have read blue, green, light brown, dark brown, almost black, almost gray... everything under the sun. I think i read one with purple, also. I know that in the movie she has blue... Just wanted to see what you all thought.

2) The attractivness of Draco!!! (hehe) Would the whole D/G ship been created if it were not for the amazing deliciosity of Tom Felton? Because, i must admit, before i saw the movie I just assumed Draco was a slimy, ugly git, with no notion of ever getting together with Ginny. Ever. Then of course the movie CoS comes along... I am sorley mistaken. I seem to be convinced that he is going to turn good because of Ginny... or to rebel against his father. Did anyone see the CoS dvd? there are some very interesting Draco/Lucius moments in the deleted scenes...

1) Yes, there has always been much speculation on the color of Ginny's eyes. As for me, I've always thought of them as brown. *shrugs*

2) Yes, I suppose Tom Felton did give the ship a boost, and the whole idea of Draco being attractive did reel in some fans, but for the most part, I think the ship was created because of how odd the idea was. Odd, but then again, it could make sense, with the whole "opposites-attract" cliche. I mean, I know when I first read D/G, I was thinking "What?!" but as I read the particular fic, I loved the interaction between D and G, including the rather amusing bantering. The idea of the strange and new ship of D/G, I guess, grew and now, it's a pretty popular ship.

1) Tis true that Ginny's eyes are not described at all in canon and most fanfic authors take liberities. I've read an awful lot of D/G and brown is the colour of choice for Ginny. Sometimes, "cinnamon" as they call it. I can't see her with the blue so much since the brown contemplates the red hair so well.

2) Yes, Tom Felton is quite the cutie and does boast the deliciousness of the D/G ship but most of us were into D/G long before the movies came about. Draco is still devastatingly handsome in all the fics of course, his features are so very cold that people must make him good looking.

Actually, Ginny's eyes are brown. Do the shade all you like, but there's a passage somewhere about Ginny's brown eyes peeping at Harry. I'm FAAAR too lazy to find it. *smirks lazily*

I stand corrected. It's been much too long since I've read canon. Lexicon says Ginny has brown eyes. Look through the chapter (CoS 3) but skimmed it without actually finding anything. Ah, well.

1) Yup, Ginny's has brown eyes and I think I should give you all the excerpt from chapter 3 CoS:

2) Well, I when I read the book for the first time I imagined Draco to be a pale, scrawny boy and definitely unattractive. Tom Felton did make me think that Draco can be cute and sexy but I have to say I had the idea of D/G from canon (I wonder why..must be my wild imagination). It's the incident in the bookshop that made me paused and thought how ironic and hillarious it will be if the two of them end up together! After that, I started hunting for D/G fanfics (in fact, I entered the HP fanfiction world because of D/G).

1. Yeah, so anyone writing D/G, no viloet eyes here! (Only magicked contacts?)

2. I never really had a thing for Tom Felton, but I like D/G. He's fine and all, but I prefer Draco's personality mix over their physical appeal. I'm not that unhappy they're changing Felton as I was never really attached to him. Woo for canon!Draco!

Does it really matter so much that Ginny's eyes are a keyword to the D/G relationship? I do not think so, as we acquire more knowledge about Ginny's personality and of course her appearance, we will know. It's like the rant about Harry's scar, Rowling doesn't necessarily tell us where his scar is, same with Ginny's eyes. If Bonnie Wright's eyes were blue, then Ginny Weasley's eyes are blue? Is that reasonable enough? Well, I don't think so, personally. If Ginny's eyes resembles to that of the other redheads in her family, then yes, her eyes would feasibly be blue. Or aqua... or cyan... or turquoise or another shade of blue if I don't have to depict furthermore. And so, the prattle about Ginny's eyes goes on...

As for Tom Felton, absolutely NO. I don't think his facial features had helped in anyway the developement of D/G. He is simply a juvenile adolescent acting, he is like our second Draco beyond. Maybe, just maybe, his apperance traits are similiar to that of Draco's but I don't think it really helped in anyway... simply before and after the movie, I always had thought Ginny and Draco are quite destined for each other.

Uno: Ginny's eyes - definitely brown. We've established as much. Personally, I don't think it really matters at all...

Dos: Tommerz - well, I thought D/G from the first time I read the books, before the film came out and lovely Tom made an appearance. I confess, I am a big Tom fan. I think he boosted D/G a teensy bit, but no more than he must have boosted all the other ships which feature Draco darling. But I also must point out that I don't picture Tom when reading Draco fanfiction. I don't think they should change him in the film - personally I believe him to be the best child actor in the entire series - but we all differenciate Draco from Tom.

But he's lovely eye candy for fanart manip. and avatars. Hehehe.

One thing that annoys me about D/G fics is that most writers seem to chane the colour of Ginny's hair, it can't be just ginger.

EG:
"her hair was now a deep shade of red, not ginger like her brothers"

"Ginny had been out in the sun and her hair had gotten blonde highlights"

"Ginny has gone goth and died her hair black"

another thing is

"Ginny had grown up alot over the summer. She was now a DD bra size, and had grown 10inches... " (then the hair thing!)

HELLO... how many peole do you know that change beyond recognition over the summer.
Yeh she might have grown up, become more of a woman, gotten more curvy, lost her virginity, and maybe died her hair... but IT DIDN'T HAPPEN IN SIX WEEKS!!!!

what annoys you?

When Draco turns into a "white hat" in .5 seconds! Or when the author completely throws Harry into the background. Or when she/he makes Ron the over overprotective guy. I mean, it's inevitable he'd be upset, but I hate it when they overexagarate it until the point he becomes the bad guy. Great topic.

BTW, Welcome to Portkey! *hands over a muffin and a peice of pumpkin pie* If you were a browser before, you know what that means. It's just a welcoming gesture. I added in the muffin part, though. Muffins are to D/G as to pumpkin pie is to H/Hr here.

That's so true... like when they have Ron plotting the downfall of our fave couple... it's a little OTT... i really really hate is when Draco is out of character, and goes all soppy on us. It's kinda ok to change Ginny cos in the books she doesnt really have that much of a personality but you can't just make Draco all nice! He's hot when he's a prick!

I'm afraid I'm guilty of throwing Harry into the background, but with good reasons-- one, that I don't write Harry very well, and two, that I don't like H/Hr *ducks flamethrowers pointed her way,* so I write that poorly, as well. However, I'd like to think my fics are none the worse for it.
I don't really care for D/G fics that have no real rhyme or reason given to why Draco and Ginny get together.

Personally, I dislike fics that have Ginny go to america/vist an american penpal/have an american stay with her and suddenly become totally different. The influence of america isn't going to make Ginny magically OOC. Like a slut. Or a goth. Just my two cents.

Which brings up a whole other thing... fics that are SO insanely OOC it's not even funny. It just kills me. I know I've used storylines in which Draco has had some sort of angsty interest in Ginny in the past, but I'm not one to just randomly throw them in together.
I also absolutely abhor fics that make Draco sound like an idiot, or really, this applies to all fics-- the characters all speak fairly intelligently, and a lot of times in these stories they're suddenly slang-y all over the place and sounding completely... well, out of character.

Yes! And then sometimes they sound TOO intelligent! Then I feel like I'm dealing with a really fandomized Draco/Ginny/etc. which can either be really bad or really fun. (You all know how sexy fandom!Draco can get. )

i hate it when people do one-shots which are like "have fight kiss fall in love babies the end."
it's awful.... and when Lucius suddenly loves Ginny and cant wait till she joins the family YUCK!

lol, does anyone else have a problem with Draco and Harry suddenly becoming friends. I mean fair enough they could be civilised to each other, but they can't just sudenly make friends as though they have never had a problem with each other. It's almost as bad as when Draco and Ginny are in love after one sentence!

AH! I've never read anything where Lucius wanted Ginny in the family! And I don't want to, that's just...wrong! And falling in love after one line...some new writers write like that...but...maybe they just need a mentor or something, and they probably haven't heard of a betta. *Sigh* I remember those days

I was just about to post about some of that! Like how her parents got a lot of money and they are rich! And I couldn't even follow the story line of that link, I didn't get it! I'm trying to think of some of the really bad things I've read *Hmmm* Gr, my stupid long term memory!

i try not to remember bad fanfics... there are to many of them. WE MUST STOP IT!

the ultimate D/G site would not have any of this horrible stuff on it. It will be hard work to acheive it! lol!

i also hate it when Ginny is really good friends with Cho Chang... ARGH she is whiney and annoying in both canon and fanon... IT WOULDNT HAPPEN!

OMG! I know! I remember when I read the 5th book I wanted to slap Cho! She cried so much! And she was jealous of Hermione! OH come on Harry/Hermione are best friends! And she tried to make Harry jealous by saying that guy who was snogging the girl asked her out! Dude...uck...she's so... Oh! The stories where Draco/Ginny randomly meet...like um there's one that is out now where Draco threw a MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE and Ginny found it! I mean...come on!

Yeah! Like every few paragraphs its says ~*~ GINNY POV ~*~ then its like ~*~ DRACO POV ~*~ then ~*~ NORMAL POV ~*~ Grr, they repeat the same stuff over when they do that too! And also, there is this sequel to some fic out...the regular was From Sarah With Love and the sequel was...Family Matters. I...have to say...I don't like that fic, it moves really fast! And also I can't stand it when people have a ton of exclimation marks! like !!!!!!!!!!! "I don't believ you did that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" That's not needed! And then they use the apostrophe things instead of Quotation marks when someone is talking...

I also think that when people write fics they should make the names unique. I know that like Fred/George, and all the other Weasley's names are normal...except for Virginia...which is why I think Ginny will have something important to do... Just because of her name! It's a unique name! She's not going to go to waist before the end.....wait...is Virginia her name in the books? I actually dont remember reading it! I have been believing a lie this entire time!

lol sorry Faith. any way as we where saying. how shall we create this ULTIMATE BAD FIC, maybe we could starta new thread for people to stick cookies on for their bad fic, and the choose the worst and just keep narrowing it down until we fnd the worst.

Hmm I hate it when...Well I'm not sure if anyone has said this, but when Ginny goes away for the summer and comes back a whole new person. I also don't like when Ginny wears really skimpy outfits...Well unless it goes with the story, but when she wears a t-shirt that says like, 'devil' or when people say she's wearing ABERCROMBIE! It bugs me...little things annoy me...but hey! ITS THE TOPIC! *Pats herself on the back for staying on topic*
