Maybe Ron's not in love with Hermione
QUOTE
Though I warn, it's nothing revolutionary, to the contrary, it's the blatantly obvious. Ron and Hermione exhibit the classic stages of older children/teens exploring the power of their sexuality. It can be seen in any social group of that age group, and heck, I was a part of such hormonal repors in my own teen years. I'm sure we all were. Simple thing is, Ron and Hermione are no doubt attracted to each other. Ron is very much a 'male' kind of guy, and Hermione is asserting her femininity, and who else better to rebound such energies from? They are argumentative, and this is a tentative way for young people to explore their attraction. It's very much like the "smack her in the head to show her I like her" syndrome seen in kindegarten. You're wondering where I'm getting to the Harry/Hermione-ness right? Right. Well, supposing Ron and Hermione did ever start a romantic relationship, the question would be this - what would there be to it? It would be based upon a childish interplay, and once both of them had firmly come to understand their flowering sexuality, the attraction would be dramaticly lessened. Where's the excitement when you've both come to get over the 'rush' of butting heads? Ron is a wonderful, funny and intelligent kid. He's my favourite singular character. But his suitability for Hermione is awful. Hermione is a very cerebral and emotional girl. She's sensitive, insightful, and has exhibited again and again the need to be appreciated for these things. Ron, as great as he is, is not that kind of guy. He's open, emotional, and is all about the body. To put it in more astrological terms (forgive my dip into such things), Hermione is a water type personality, and Ron is fire. (No, I don't care if it creates steam, the water evaporates and nothing is left!!) Hermione is driven by thoughts, by deeply emotional motivations which have been thought upon heavily. Every action she displays has weight, and she sees other people's actions just the same. Ron, however, does what he feels is right at the immediate moment, doesn't think about it, and doesn't realise what he's done until it's too late. He doesn't place a lot of stock in the study of literature (as he has demonstrated many a time), and he is all about living the moment, being out there and amongst the action. Now, whilst some Ron/Hermione enthusiasts might say that this is a good thing, that it could draw Hermione out of herself, etc, I believe that the effects of such different personalities clashing would be different. Ron has shown, again and again, a tendency to criticise Hermione for the way she is. And it's not just little things about her that he criticises, it's deeply engrained things about her that are essential to her personality, and the way she is. To put it simply - a happy couple this does *not* make. Harry, however, is the sort of laid-back and appreciative personality that would interplay with Hermione's rather delightfully. Sure, the Ron/Hermione shippers might not find it all that exciting, but really, it's not about what's exciting. Hermione would, in the end, be utterly miserable with Ron. They make a lot of sparks, but it's not the sort of thing a lasting and happy relationship is made of. Harry has demonstrated that he works well with Hermione in different situations, that they share a gentle and warm repor, and that he fully appreciates Hermione for exactly who she is. Such a warm and comfortable friendship is just the thing that a happy and beneficial relationship is based on, and I think of all the girls that JKR has presented Harry with through-out the books thus far, Hermione is by far the best suited to him.

-Question- Hermione very obviously has a crush on Ron in GOF. Discuss how she might change from liking Ron to Harry.

...Harry is supposed to pay a bit more attention to Hermione (Romantic or not does not matter - say "ABOUT TIME", everyone!)
QUOTE
I do see R/Hr happening though. But I don't see it as a lasting product. I actually do think that a R/Hr romance will happen before a H/Hr. Could it be the time that Harry has his eyes open? Would he maybe start getting funny feelings from seeing his two best friends date?
QUOTE
What we have seen in canon is the expectation of H/Hr by basically the entire wizarding world, and then the "letdown" or denial. After repeated denial by Harry (notice: not by Hermione ) perhaps we'll see the characters turn their attention to R/Hr. But as of now, the characters expect the famous Harry Potter to hook up with his closest female friend. That's what's great about H/Hr-- everybody thinks it won't happen because it's 'too obvious'. It's so expected that it's unexpected.

Do you think that someone's death/near-death can jumpstart Harry and Hermione's feelings for each other or can it be something else? Note: The someone in the question could be *anyone*, so it includes Harry and Hermione.

I do think that the possible loss of Hermione's friendship might light the fire under Harry's ass, though.
