The conflict never ends when one is a shipper. But, this IS a site set up for HP/HG shippers, so those who venture here are only doing it to themselves. I would never be rude to any other shipper who came here, but I am willing to duke it out at FAP... XD I havent done that yet, but I am bidding my time... innocent.gif

I don't care about reasons! I'm always going to be H/Hr forever.

It's been a while... O_O;

Anyway, hi!

In the discussion of dear Ginny. Like most said, I think she is basically over Harry. Though maybe she isn't. JKR doesn't show us what's going on in Ginny's mind. We do know, however, that in their third year (Ginny's second) at the start of it, Ginny was a little shy around Harry, but when fourth year came, again at the beginning, she blushed a bit when Harry smiled to her, but this time she didn't run away. Perhaps something happened on her second year (saw Draco in a whole new light, maybe wub.gif one can hope... wink.gif ) that we don't know about... -shrugs-

My two centavos.

Hello Everyone.

I am normally a lurker, but I have a question for you all. On the Deathmarch thread, several R/H people have said that Harry's description of Hermione during the Yule Ball scene is not very complementary.

Here is the passage. GoF - Ch. 23 The Yule Ball

Krum was at the front of the party, accompanied by a pretty girl in blue robes Harry didn't know...

His eyes fell on the girl next to Krum. His jaw dropped.

It was Hermione.

But she didn't look like Hermione. She had done something with her hair; it was no longer bushy but sleek and shiny, and twisted up into an elegant knot at the back of her head. She was wearing robes made of a floaty periwinkle blue material, and she was hold herself differently, somehow - or maybe it was merely the absence of the twenty or so books she usually had slung over her back. She was also smiling...but the reduction in the size of her front teeth was more noticeable than ever; Harry couldn't understand how he hadn't spotted it before.

JK seems to be describing Harry's observation of Hermione. She describes the things he notices, but she doesn't really go into great depth about what Harry is feeling. The passage starts off with Harry looking around the room and then all of the sudden he is unable to take his eyes off of Hermione. The parts the R/H people were refering to is the parts I put in bold. The thing I noticed is that you have a sentence starting off with a long ramble about how different Hermione looked and then you have a cut in about how its because she is not carrying her books. Then you have the a little cut in saying that Harry notices her smile, but then says its because her front teeth were reduced. It seems to me that Harry has two brains working here. He has one saying that Hermione looks really pretty, then he has the other half saying, "This is Hermione. Your best friend for the past four years; your buddy that studies all the time and carries around tons of books." I personally think that this is where it dawns on Harry that Hermione is a girl and he seems to be confused about it.

Frankily this is just my opinion. I just wanted to know what everyone thought.

PS - Did anyone else notice that Hermione and Harry were talking about Sleekys(?sp), the stuff Hermione uses on her hair? Harry was obviously curious about her appearence at the Yule Ball.

Hermione's crushes
Does anyone seem to notice that Krum and Lockhart combined together seem an awful lot like a certain green eyed boy. Krum is an excellent Quidditch Seeker that is described as being shy and awkward, plus he doesn't seem to like all the fame he gets. Then you have Lockhart. Hermione seemed to like him because of all the wonderful things that he 'did.' She seemed to be really impressed with all of his 'adventures.' Lets see, you have a shy Quidditch Seeker and you have a brave adventurer. Add those two together...

and who do you get... shocked.gif

you get Harry. biggrin.gif

She also seemed a little bit impressed by Cedric. Again you have a brave seeker. It also interesting that Cedric and Harry both like similar girls. Example: Cho - Another parallel!

Oooh..cookiemonster, you brought up a lot of good points! w00t.gif

Also, I have, have, have to get this out. Yesterday I went to a party, and the topic of HP was brought up. One girl was like, "Yes, Hermione and Ron look wonderful together." and I stared at her. I went, "Hermione and Ron aren't together," and she was like, "Oh, it's coming...don't worry, it's coming..."

So, naturally, I rattled off my unofficial list of reasons H/R doesn't go and why H/H do. LOL, I think she was a little rattled by my vehemence. blushing.gif But seriously! I don't quite get why (well, I know their reasons, but don't agree in the slightest) R/Hr's are so sure that it's going to end up R/Hr. It clearly isn't!

*takes a deep breath* Okay, my rant is over...you can all come out from under your desks now, lol.

XD Alison, you crack me up. You really do! It is so funny, my friends and I are like, divided when it comes to who Hermione is going to End Up With. Ron or Harry? Me and two of my friends are FOR HARRY, whereas my other three clueless ones are rooting for Ron. X_X We should start a club for those who have misguided friends and make up ways to keep them from trying to corrupt us. wassat.gif X_X?

As for HP/HG, we all love it, that is why we are here. So calm down H heart.gif H, we know you love them. happy.gif ::huggles!!::

How fun it should be, debating ships in RL. MY friends NEVER speak about HP, much less ships! *feels depressed*

About Harry's description of Hermione, I will only say this: he's 14. He's no poet. He's just saying what comes to his mind... it's only right that he'd do a before/after parallel.

Ok, so I lied. I'll say some more things tongue.gif

Well, Ron's descriptions of Hermione aren't flattering at all, either. If I remember correctly, there's the usual "know-it-all" and I'm not sure about this, but I think he's called her a bookworm at least once. So, what are they trying to prove? At least Harry's HAS seen her as "pretty", at least once. Though that might be unfair, since the books are from Harry's POV... still, anything they might say that Ron thinks about Hermione in the physical aspect is purely speculation.

I think this is a perfect example of the difference between how R/Hrs and H/Hers read canon. I've often heard or (read it) said that R/Hr-ers tend to cite canon to support their views, while H/Hers go for "context, subtleties, innuendoes, reading between the lines" ... to which R/Hers will go back to canon and cite chapter and verse ...

Anyway ... I see the passage that cookiemonster cited as a clear case of taking things out of context. I agree with the points made here, especially by Carla, who pointed out that:

And I do agree with cookiemonster's original observation: there seem to be two "brains" working in Harry's mind -- one that's saying, "Hermione's beautiful!" w00t.gif and the other which keeps thwapping him on the head with the statement, "She's your friend! Stop thinking of her that way!" rolleyes.gif

If there is a turning point in the books, I think that this is it ... as cookiemonster points out, "this is where it dawns on Harry that Hermione is a girl and he seems to be confused about it.

Hmmm ... confused? Well ... we all get confused when we come across something that has always been so familiar, something that we are so used to ... and suddenly see things in a whole new light. I think this is what happened with Harry ... he is seeing Hermione in a whole new light, and he does not know where to go with it ...

Thinking about it, is this the starting point for the "I don't want to ruin our friendship by having a relationship with you" scenario?

About the Sleekeazy (sp?) ... if I remember correctly, they (Harry and Hermione) did discuss it the following day. As I recall the scene, Hermione's hair was back to its normally bushy state, and she admitted (confessed?) to Harry that she'd used a lot of it the night before, but that it was too much bother to do it every day.

I don't know why, but that scene (coming after the Yule Brawl) always stands out in my mind ... I always felt it as an example of the level of trust, confidence, comfort and friendship that the two have in each other ... in the same way that Hermione, after patiently trying to teach Krum to say her name, glances across the table at Harry and grins.

It just feels natural ... something that you fall into, or fall back on to, with someone you consider a close friend -- never mind if that "friend" is a boy.

Anyway, enough rambling for now ... RL's been scrambling my brain ... blink.gif wacko.gif ... gotta go now and scramble my brain some more. (sigh)

gil

P.S. Carla -- don't feel depressed about not discussing ships in RL. I went through that a few months back -- and we all decided that HP ships, like religion and politics, are things that can ruin friendships. whistling.gif

I think JKR might have Ron and Hermione go out for a little while (that was very hard for me to type out Shock.gif ) and then I can see Harry finally plucking up the courage to ask Hermione out and then everythink will be plain sailing from them
please no yell at me for saying that Ron and Hermione will go out crying.gif

and just a little note Harry and Hermione kinda of remind me a little of Mulder and Scully wub.gif
angel of fire
everyone should know that harry and hermione should be together. it's common sence ppl. ron and hermione bicker too much. duh. use your brains, it's located in your head
Ice Phoenix
Well it's only common sense to us really. Others can have their own views (notice the not being rude about ***/Hermione shippers)
Harry/Hermione 4eva
'K, How do we know Harry and Hermione like each other, and NOT Ron and Hermione ::Shudder::? Simple. biggrin.gif
I shall explain, and piont out the blatently obvious, so bear with me here guys. HEHEHE.
Ist book- Philosophers Stone for me the English girl. Sorcers stone for you Americans
1) The saving of Hermione in the first yaer- That could just be what anyone would have done. True, but he did risk his life to save someone he didn't particullaly like at the time. VERY heroic. king.gif

The Chamber Of Secrets
2) The petrified Hermi (Sorry, personal nickname) in the second year-
Did you see his face in the movie when he saw her, he looked sooo sad. crying.gif
3) Holding of her hand- Also in the second movie. Would just anyone be holding her hand? NO! I didn't see Ron holding her hand, did you?
4) At the end of the movie Hermi ran down the hall STRAIGHT towards harry, not Ron, and hugged him so hard it looked like poor Harry was going to explode! Did she hug Ron? Uhhhh NO!
5)Oh yeah, the interview with JKR on the CoS DVD.- She said that there was a bit of 'forshadowing' in the movie of future events which she didn't hint at until the fourth book. Which means the things that were in the movie, but not the book right? So in the Book Harry was just LOOKING at Hermi's hand, in the movie he was HOLDING it. Also the hall scene with the hug wasn't in the book either, so Harry and Hermi hint there? I thik so w00t.gif By the way those of you who are thinking about Ron trying to curse Malfoy, he did that in the book! tongue.gif

The Prisoner Of Azkaban
6) The Time-Turner incident in the closet- Not much going on there but the close prximity might mean something, or that one could just be me!
7) Hermi nearly cutting off the circulation in Harrys arm- That makes us know that she feels safe with Harry, again that could just be me. rolleyes.gif

The Goblet Of Fire
8) Hermi was the only one who stood by Harry- This could mean shes an AMAZING friend, or in my opinion, she loves him, and can't stand to see him so upset. Did you see her hanging out with Ron? NOPE!
9) And the Big one- The Kiss!!!! OOOOOh That is an obvious hint to me, the obbsessed Harry/ Hermi shipper. You don't go round kissing various people do ya? It's got have some thoght behind it.

The Order of the Phoinex
10) How did Hermi know that Harry was a good kisser? Huh Huh? They MUST have kissed for her to know that.
11) Harrys reaction to Hermi getting hit by the Death Eater- crying.gif He was so upset, although he had to save every one else too. I know this may sound pretty evil but he didn't seem that bothered about Ron did he? He totaly loves Hermi. Shes the only one who can help him cope with Sirius' death rip.gif crying.gif

I hope that was enough to bring you safely back aboard the Harry/ Hermi ship. And FAAAAAAAAAR away from the Ron/ Hermi boat that should hopefully be rapidly sinking!
NAPPA I know they are entitled to their opinions, I just don't aggree with them!

P.S Sorry it was so long! I tend to ramble rolleyes.gif
Scrivenshaft
I get what you're saying, but try not to use the film as evidentiary support - it's the books that tell you everything.
Kalie
Yeah, the films don't hold much weight for me either. I try to look at the evidence within the books as well. I also don't hold much wieght to anything JKR says in interviews. She's extremely tricky as I have said before.
Ice Phoenix
The films don't really do anything for me either. There may be chemistry between the actors, but that doesn't mean JKR meant for there to be. It's how Christopher Columbus wanted it done. Mind you, you do make a good point.
purple_mud
I think this post is slightly OT. Sorry for that.

I don't put too much weight on the film myself. Although it's nice seeing H/Hr interact the way they do in films.

I do sort of resent Christopher Colombus for being so blatantly R/Hr. I mean, c'mmon, when he told Emma that she wouldn't have to hug Rupert because that's where the tension between Ron and Hermione is, I was like... what?

Ok, sorry about that. I hope Alfonso Cuarron gives us a lot of H/Hr moments too enjoy. I wouldn't be able to sit through a whole film that would absolutely disregard the H/Hr moments in the book.

And is it me, or are there more Y Tu Mama Tambien-ish fics that involves any possible trio in the HP world? LOL! (Oh, Y Tu is Cuarron's last film, it's uhm, it involved a threesome there. Just a bit of an info there... hehehe)

And I agree with Kalie, even JK's interviews don't mean much to me.

I believe in H/Hr.
sunnyshiney
I agree. That moment in CoS where Hermione hugs Harry but then has that strange moment with Ron was just so out there.

I think that the films don't do it for me because the films are based on people's interpretations of the books, and I don't think the director and I interpret things the same way. I really don't even like the films all that much, except they're Harry Potter movies so I go and watch them anyways. They're too out-of-context for me in some ways, and I don't think the plot/characterization thing was balanced too well.

And I don't really put that much on JKR's interviews because I've been reading some pre-OotP ones, and after reading the book, I realize I'd read too much into them. But it is fun to speculate. wink.gif
Ice Phoenix
JKR is so clever. She misleads everyone in her intervews but never lies. You have to see the hidden messages, and the clear messages.
