It's been a while since I've gotten a thread a'rolling so here we are!

There are a lot of Lily/James fanfics out there but I think that we can all agree that only a few really bring the best canon couple and their friends to life. I want to know which fics are good at making Lily and James as well as MWP real (and hopefully respectfully canon).

I personally was a fan of Atlantis Forester's It's Just Enough To Breathe. Here James is delightfully cocky and his banter with Sirius is grand. I'm also partial to Crossroads by Emmyjean which should be canon it's so good. Not to mention The Lost Generation by Barb which is brilliant at giving all the characters so much depth and dimension (though if I had a criticism it would be Snape wasn't wicked enough for my tastes )

Okay, ball's rolling. What do you guys think?

There aren't that many that are able to.

CLS's Stag Night does a wonderful job. So does Molly Moon's fics Arrival Unexpected and Return to Sender.

Emmyjean's Crossroads is pretty good, but I have many qualms with her grammar.

The Lost Generation by Barb is also done well, and yours too, Oy! Angelina.

Ok, I know I'm necroposting. But I had to put this!

One of the best MWPP fics I've seen is The Shoebox Project. I don't know if it was out when this post was written, but it is really good! It seems to be purely canonical (until chapter 12 or so, when you get into slashy stuff, but not heavy-duty, and not enough to bother me, who reads absolutely no slash), and **GASP** includes Peter! Well, he's a highly cliched Peter, but not as bad as some fics, and not as bad as leaving him out altogether. My favorite part of it is the little tidbits throughout, like the notes that MWPP write, and the "pictures" taken of them. It's really something you have to see.

The End Of The Beginning is also quite good. It's a bit of a crossover with Buffy, but manages not to mangle either canon.

The best fanfiction I've ever read is The Marauder Chronicles by CK Talons. It isn't canon, James isn't a cocky bum & Lily doesn't hate him, but I prefer ones like that. It's also the longest fanfiction I've read, it took me 3 days. There is a really good one on this site, actually. It's a one-shot called Breathe. I read it over and over, its that good.

I remember reading a story around here. It about James connecting his own notebook to Lily's journal, and he'd write to her pretending to be her journal. At first it was meant to be a game to hurt her, but as the entries went on James grew to love her. I thought the author did a fantastic job with these characters and it's been ages since I've read this story. It's a shame I can't find it or remember the author or title. Anyone lend a hand?

Personally I think Girl on the Yellow Bike by Mauraders Chick was alright.
