Silvestria
OK, chaps, ages ago on the SCUSA thread at FAP I started this, but it didn't really take off. Here, there are loads more people so I might get more involvement.

Basically, I'm compiling a list of Classical music that reminds you of H/Hr. Whether it is a Beethoven symphony, some Renaissance choral music or a John Williams film score, if it's Classical and makes you think H/Hr, suggest it here! I'm not sure where I'll post the list eventually, but for the movement, just make your suggestions! sorcerer.gif

The list so far (in alphabetical order):

Bach- Ave Maria
Bach- Invention No. 2 in C minor
Bach- Prelude in C
Beethoven- Moonlight Sonata
Beethoven- Ode to Joy
Beethoven- Piano Sonata 23 Appasionata
Chopin- Larghetto, Piano concerto no. 2 in F
Debussy- Anything!
Handel- Largo from Xerxes
Liszt- Consolation No. 3
Mozart- Piano Sonata in E Flat Major
Pachabel- Canon in D
Rachmaninov- Vocalise
Rachmaninov- 2cd piano concerto
Rachmaninov- 3rd piano concerto
Ravel- Forlane
Saint-Saens- Mon coeur s'ouvre a ta voix (Sampson and Delilah)
Schubert- Entr' Acte (Rosamund)
Schubert- Leider
Sibelius- Violin Concerto in D minor
Strauss- Thousand and One Nights Waltz
Tchaikovsky- Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (The Nutcracker)
Tchaikovsky- Swan Lake
Tchaikovsky- Waltz from Serenade for Strings
Tchaikovsky- Waltz from Sleeping Beauty
Vivaldi- Four seasons
Wagner- Isolda's Tod (Tristan und Isolda)
Webber- All I ask of you (Phantom of the Opera)
Williams (John)- Across the Stars (Star Wars: II)
Williams (John)- Reunion of Friends (CoS)

Hope to see your suggestions soon!

hey! I dowloaded some of those. they really do reming me of h/hr. I did swan lake for ballet once. I love canon in d also. see you later

Silvestria, I don't know all of them, but you're right for the ones I have heard.

I think different sorts of music will suit them, as their relationship will evolve.
About the four seasons, I think that for the moment at least, Spring is the season which remind me of them.

I have a few suggestions :

I think that Bach, Suite No. 3 In D Major: Air On The G String would suit them well in a difficult moment for both of them (the song is really intense).

It might not be considered as really classical music, but a song by Sarah Brightman, featuring Jose Cura named "Just show me how to love you" reminds me of them too.

How about Ravel's Bolero?

Think of the theme as a statement of the H/Hr friendship which gets louder and louder with each passing (each passing of the theme - H/Hr's friendship - could refer to a new book and the loudness can be looked upon as the H/Hr bond deepening as it does in each book). Then it gets to a point where we reach the stunning climax! smile.gif Call the climax of the piece - the beginning of the H/Hr romantic relationship - or H/Hr snogging! laugh.gif thumbup.gif

Hi!

You seriously have to listen to ClassicFM - you can get it on the web - but they have some great squee music for Harry Potter. (I mean I'm a bit of a H & H fan myself - but here we go!)

Karl Jenkins - ooo - Benedictus from Armed Man - 'A Mass For Peace'.
Gorgeous stuff! blush.gif

Also by Karl Jenkins : Adiemus 'Songs for Sanctuary' any - but I like the first two.

Spigel im Spigel (spelling?) great stuff too

Aww - such a romantic!

Hi, this is my very first post!

This is a great list of music. I'd like to add "Venus" from Gustav Holst's The Planets. In general, the whole suite sounds like good Harry Potter music to me, but the first time I heard Venus after reading book 5, I thought it was a great H/Hr piece.

H/HR forever!! heart.gif

This is my kind of topic. I like classical music, which is really strange in my circle of friends.

Anyhoo, I'm got a few ideas.

Beethoven- Pathatique Sonata [Is that spelled right? I think that this would be good because Pathetique is nice and flowing. I goes from movement to mevement beatifully. It's also not very loud or clashing, sort of like Harry and Hermione. They rarely fight, and when they do, it has a purpose.]

Lidst- Leibestraum [Heh, not entirely sure on the spelling of that one. But anyway, this piece is very beautiful. I suggest it to anyone who enjoys classical compositions. On to the relationship to H/Hr... it's very, very complex and intricate, just like any sort of true love. Any missed note, and everything else is thrown off-sync. With love, any missed encounter with someone. It's also soft (see above) and beautiful, like Harry and Hermione's love.]

Webber- Memory (Cats) [I dunno. I just like this song. It's beautiful. That's it.]

The Muppets- The Rainbow Connection [Another one of my favourites. And it's really pretty. Yeah, a lot of these are pretty.]

Strauss- The Blue Danube [Another pretty one. I really love it. Plus, it's always related to romantic things. Like kissing scenes in movies.

There are a whole host of others on the tip of my tongue. But I think that this should do. Heh, I guess seven years of piano does pay off.
angel1731
Hmmm...Ok these are just a few ones I've heard over the years that I think kind of suit Harry & Hermione:

The Heart Asks Pleasure First- Micheal Nyman
Never An Absolution- James Horner
Violin Romance- Mozart
Marriage of Figaro- Mozart
Skater's Waltz- ?

-Angel1731 innocent.gif
Silvestria
Great- thank you for your suggestions.

research_dome- is Spiegel im Spiegel the one by Wagner played in 2001 A Space Odyssey? A thanks, I nearly always have ClassicFM on the radio! biggrin.gif

summergirl- Is the Muppets tune actually Classical? I have never heard of it before. I always thought it was a cartoon! unsure.gif

angel1731- The same applies to The Heart Asks Pleasure First- Micheal Nyman and Never An Absolution- James Horner.

I think I'm going to leave out musical songs- there are so many and they are not really Classical. Perhaps someone could do another list.

Anyway, keep the suggestions coming!

angel1731, What part of the Marriage of Figaro are you speaking about? I think that the overture is great, and really suits them.

I didn't know Mozart had written something called Violin Romance (I knew Beethoven had written such a piece). Do you know where I could find a sample of this?
summergirl
Silvestria- No, it's not really classical. But on your list were some musicals and modern compostitions. That's my logic...

And some of these other are so awesome for the H/Hr relationship. thumbup.gif

I have to add some I don't know if you would necessarily call it "classical" music but I will list it anyway. Two pieces I really enjoy are called "And You and I" and "Cord of Life" both composed by Taku Iwasaki for the second Rurouni Kenshin OAV. There's love imbued in both of these pieces, sort of a sad love because of all the hard ships that Kenshin has had to deal with in his life but both pieces seem to reflect the unconditional love that Kaoru and Kenshin (whoa, K and K, H and H...what a lovely coincidence :-P...hey what can I say, I think shippy) and how they will always stand by each other and that their love will overcome the sadness that has permeated their lives. And I think that really reflects Harry and Hermione's relationship quite well, Hermione has to deal with the immense hardships that has gone on in Harry's life, but I think we all can see that they'd stand by each other no matter what. The love that they have is unconditional. That's why I picked those pieces of music. They're really really lovely. If you can find them at all, I'd download them if I were you. smile.gif

I'll support ponderingprefect when she suggests music from Iwasaki. I'll add another song, although this is from the series and it's composed by Noriyuki Asakura:
Her most Beautiful Smile - it's a beautiful piece. I think it reflects the kind of harmony that exists between Harry and Hermione and the blosson of their relationship.

- "Let it go free" the instrumental Suite from "Indecent Proposal" OST, by John Barry. Really, really beautiful and breathtaking.

- "Theme from Dying Young", by Kenny G.

- "Love Grows" by Nobuo Uematsu "If anyone has played Final Fantasy VIII, is Squall and Rinoa's Theme.

- "Tidus and Yuna" by Nobuo Uematsu --> this is the most perfect H/Hr melody I have heard, you must hear it now!
. Piper .
'For the Love of a Princess' by James Horner

Thats funny when i saw this i thought of Across the Stars from Star Wars Episode 2 also. Maybe also Love Pledge and the arena theme from the same movie also.

Tommaso Albinoni: Adagio in G-minor (Parts of this one give me goosebumps.)

Frederic Chopin: Nocturne in D-flat major, Nocturne in C-sharp minor, Nocturne in E-flat major (These are utterly exquisite, and some of the funnest to play on the piano.)

Claude Debussy: Reverie, Clair de Lune, Arabesque I (These are also brilliant and fun to play. Arabesque is just too lovely for words.)

Bach: Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring (This one makes me think of weddings.) smile.gif

Bernard Herrman: Scene D'Amour (from the film Vertigo)

Adrien Johnston: Jude Motion Picture Soundtrack (This is one of my favorite soundtracks of all time. It is simply gorgeous.)

I wouldn't have a clue which part of The Marriage of Figaro it was I heard (or if it was the whole thing), because I heard it during someone else's Viva Voce during my music H.S.C. All I know is I asked my music teacher what it was, and she told me it was The Marriage of Figaro.

As for the Violin Romance, it's probably the one written by Beethoven I'm thinking of blush.gif I can never remember composers properly whistling.gif

I was listening to the Love Actually soundtrack today and Craig Armstrong I believe wrote the score to the movie. It may not be the score but it's a piece called Glasgow Love Theme . It's a beautiful simple piece and as I listened to it today I thought, "OMG... this is sooo Harry and Hermione." You should all check it out.

Oh wow, hope I don't repeat anybody here! And let's hope I can translate from the "For Piano" music collection, since it's in Russian (I hate that! Forgive misspellings, or whichever other mistakes I shall make)

"The Story of Love" - Lei (gosh I completely butchered that one sad.gif hopefully, someone knows it and can correct!)

for some randomely weird reason, H/Hr also reminds me of

"Sonatina A-Moll" by C. Beinecke (I don't expect anybody to know of that one...)

All the ones by Mozart and Bach have been mentioned already...so I second those smile.gif
Silvestria
Thanks for all your suggestions-

I have decided, to keep this compeltely Classical, to only allow straight Classical music in. This must therefore be music written either in the Baroque, Classical, Romantic eras or the following in the 20th century:

-20th century Classical music (e.g. Stravinsky, Adams etc.)
-Classical film scores (e.g. Star Wars, Gone with the Wind, Lord of the Rings). If you wish to put a film score down, make sure the track you have chosen IS Classical! Otherwise, it will go on the other list.

Musicals have also been taken out, as there are simply TOO many. Any vocal piece submitted must be strictly Classical or it should go on another list. Perhaps someone could make a 'Musicals for H/Hr list'?

Anyway- the updated list:

Albinoni- Adagio in G Minor
Armstrong- Glasgow Love Theme (Love Actually)
Bach- Ave Maria
Bach- Invention No. 2 in C minor
Bach- Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring
Bach- Prelude in C
Bach- Suite No. 3 In D Major: Air On The G String
Beethoven- Moonlight Sonata
Beethoven- Ode to Joy
Beethoven- Pathetique Sonata
Beethoven- Romance in F Major for Violin
Beethoven- Sonata 23 Appasionata
Beinecke- Sonatina in A Minor for piano
Chopin- Larghetto, Piano concerto no. 2 in F
Chopin- Nocturnes in D flat major, C sharp minor, E flat major
Debussy- Arabesque I
Debussy- Clair de Lune
Debussy- Prelude a l'apres midi d'un faun
Debussy- Reverie
Handel- Largo from Xerxes
Herrman- Scene D'Amour (Vertigo)
Holst- 'Venus' from the Planets
Jenkins- Adiemus
Jenkins- Benedictus from Armed Man - 'A Mass For Peace'
Johnston- Soundtrack to 'Jude'

Silvestria : you’re right, some of those do really remind me of H/Hr; but not Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven I don't know why but that one remains me so much of Sirius wub.gif
You know, The prince charming, with a tragic end, he was the soul of the marauders, just picture perfect bad boy, and then all those years imprisoned, then hiding and at the end dying... Moonlight Sonata is just all about him...in my ears... blush.gif

Maybe because it's so sad.

I love Love story or The story of love however it transates, but it's too sad. It's about a love breaking up or something like that. I hope it's not H/Hr.

Hey Silvestria, I'm doing the soundtrack for HOAF (Hooked On A Feeling, our H/Hr website) and I'd love a copy of this list when you're completely done. Do you think you could PM me a copy when you're done?

Thanks,

Skater's Waltz is by Waldteufel! I finally know. wink.gif

That whole list definitely reminds me of H/Hr! I have some to add:

Chopin - Romanze Larghetto, Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor
Liszt - Liebestraum
Schubert - Impromptu Op. 92 No. 3
Saint Saens - Le Cygne (the Swan)
Mendelssohn - On Wings of Song
Puccini - One Fine Day (can't remember the Italian name)

And there's that aria in Phantom of the Opera that the girl always sings... can't remember what the title of it is.

That's all I can think of from the top of my head. I'll be back with more later, playing piano for 10 years pays off. smile.gif

Jo
Field
Big Poppa- Biggie Smalls
Slow Jams-Kayne west Twista and Jamie Foxx
Tupac- I ain't mad at ya
Tupac-Changes

LOL none of them are classical but I listen to them and they are classics in my opinion =).
Celebrian Helyanwe
oh my goodness! I LOVE Ave Maria and Moonlight Sanata! Here are a few of mine. I am playing these in orchestra, and considering we play really badly, they are really pretty.

Star Dust by Hoagy Carmichael, and my personal favorite,
Procession of the Sardar by M. Ippolitov-Inanov

Star Dust sounds kinda 40's slow dance, but that's just my opinion. And Procession of the Sardar sounds kinda 19th century Spanish or Italian. But it's so pretty. I love playing it.

Hello all!

*gags at the memory of playing 1st oboe in a Rachmaninov piano concerto*

Just a few things to add - all are new music and not exactly classical, but worth the listen-

"Crumbling of Time" - Credited to the Final Fantasy X soundtrack, but I think this sounds very American, not Nobuo Uematsu style. This song isn't so much lovey, its kind of like a final battle, angsty, love-you-but-I-have-to-go-fight kind of thing.

"Kuon Hikari To Nami No Kioku" or "Eternity: Memory of Lightwaves" - Norkio Matsueda and Takahito Eguchi

"Romance for a Windy Isle" - Noriyuki Iwadare

"Pavane" - Faure

"March Caprice for Piano and Orchestra" - Kaoru Wada. This is from the Kingdom Hearts OST, so if you have trouble finding it under him, search for that.

Just a few suggestions. smile.gif
