PJlikesAUfanfic
Yeah, I posted on that thread somewhere a while back. I mentioned that in the D/G ship fanfics I see Draco casted as James. In the slash ones I see him more like Orlando Bloom as a blond and long hair the way he was done up in LotR.

But in the Fire & Ice, it definitely has to be James in my eyes as a grown up Draco. I just have trouble picturing ginny though. For some odd reason I see myself as a 20 year old... except I have green eyes not brown. I'm short, hard headed, strong when I need to be, not afraid to stand up to those that need a good butt kicking sometimes... I could fit the bill... but my green eyes...But to go after a bad boy Draco that looks like James, I'll make my eyes brown! tongue.gif

God, I'm bad sometimes rolleyes.gif

WOW! PJ that's beautiful with your red hair and green eyes! I love that combo as it's rare, you could be a great Lily too! Haha PJ but nah keep those beautiful green eyes! I love green eyes *sighs dreamily* Right sorry (snaps out of green eyed character trance) I always imagine a mix between certain pics of Tom Felton (You know those aboslutely gorgeous ones with the long hair *drool*) those ones and a bit of Spike.

Tom can look hot, I agree! I'm not normally one to go on about actors (I know it's hard to believe), but damn does he make a sexy Draco in some of those pictures.

I don't really know who I would see as my Ginny either. I don't see her as exactly beautiful, but she is pretty. At least in my opinion anyway.
PJlikesAUfanfic
Hana, I can't be a Lily. Firstly, I am too short, not tall like Lily was *I consider anything over 5 foot 4 inches tall in my mind since I'm only 5 foot 2 inches now*. 2nd, I'm too round and not lithe and graceful like Lily was. I was more like an hour glass before I had kids. And more important, my green isn't emerald green. Mine is more like grayish green sorta like olive or 'army' green or worse what my brothers always said 'puke' green. rolleyes.gif And I have 'gold stars' in them as what little one calls the gold flecks. Must be from my mother that had hazel eyes on the brownish side. *shrugs*

Both my brothers have blue eyes. Both my kids have blue eyes. I got the short, round, red and green from a great grandma on my mom's side.

And the red hair I had as a 'kid' back when I was 20 is now thinned out mousy brown from illness and years of medications that mess with hair color. Yeah, it can change hair color and make it fall out too. *whimpers at loss of my pretty red I used to have*

But yeah, back in the day, I could have been mistaken for ginny. Hey wasn't Harry Potter supposed to be in the 80's? *thoughts in my head are bouncing* James Masters and I are only a year apart in age and back then we were teenagers.... hum...

the D/G fanfic ideas just started to bounce in my head again! Oh goodness!
Fire
PJ, that's still really lovely! I love any type of green eyes, and army green is really pretty!!!!! Well your brothers are stupid then hug.gif heart.gif LOL! PJ, just a year apart tongue.gif heart.gif

We are so off-topic, in hopes of steering it back, if only Tom and Bonnie just stood together in something it would be a proven point of why I ship them tongue.gif

LOL, yes, they just have to stand next to each other and it just looks natural.

I was thinking about this the other night. Don't you think Ginevra Malfoy sounds so much nicer than Ginevra Potter? Or worse, Ginny Potter *giggles*

Plus, they look so good together. Red and blond goes well so nicely, and they make a very striking couple. *sighs wistfully* I need to read more fanfics.
Fire
Exactly! They just need one glance, one photo and lava will explode biggrin.gif But you know it's true. And it's true they make waaaaaaaay more of a striking and hot couple than any other *coughHGcough* They look absolutely gorgeous together! I love your avvie proof and you know the PK logo for each of the shippy forums LOVE that pic! Yup red and blonde go beautifully!

Ginevra Potter?! *gag* Ginevra Malfoy *sighs in total bliss* but and shipping aside Ginevra Malfoy sounds so much more Ginny, it's striking, fits her character, rolls off the tongue and an all together perfect and gorgeous name. Ginny Malfoy *melts* Ginny Potter?! No, I am sorry but then I think of Ginny as a weak puddle of - anti-Ginny. And the whole Romeo/Juliet thing with D/G is always a bonus thumbup.gif

Hehe, glad we think on the same train of thought. I love how you say it makes her sound like a weak puddle of anti-Ginny laugh.gif I think it does though. There's just something that commands respect in Ginevra Malfoy. Ginevra Potter sounds too simple for Ginny. I think the only name that can go with Potter is Hermione whistling.gif
Alexandria Malfoy
I agree with everything, in terms of Ginny's real name. She has such a regal and prestigious name that comes from wizarding royalty. Her name is not a common one, and "Malfoy" as a surname just seems more suited to her first name.

But, to be realistic, (and I know I gave my opinion on the 'ship earlier) while Ginny's character, as written in canon, may be snarky (somewhat...), athletic, and pretty much an advocate of freedom and whatnot, her character has no specific purpose other than to eventually end up with Harry. She has very little of a role throughout the series, and the only real character development she has is in the seventh book. Not only that, but Harry sees her as an object; his whole fixation with her over the course of HBP is akin to an obsession, or something similar. And he uses her in order to prevent himself from essentially killing himself from the amount of emotional baggage he has to deal with.

While Draco and Ginny do have moments of interaction, they are very brief, and in most cases, Ginny's defending Harry. She seems to be placed into these situations specifically for that reason. In HBP, most of her dialog, or the dialog directed to her, showed her constantly defending Harry -- whether it be in a humorous way, or in a dramatic way.

And Draco's character is a simpering momma's boy over the course of the series. While I like to think that many authors associated with the 'ship depict both Draco and Ginny in a realistic, true-to-canon nature, more often than not, Draco and Ginny are characterized by fanon conceptions of them, and many readers begin to associate these fanon characterizations with the canon ones.

And thus end my thoughts on Draco and Ginny. XD I don't particularly care if you disagree, it's just that lately I've been feeling in a rather analytical mood, and I felt like adding on to my previous (contradictory) thoughts on the ship.

No matter what, though, I will always love this ship! ^^

Oh, and this is completely off topic, but OMG! I THINK TOM FELTON HAS A GIRLFRIEND!!?!??

I read something on MuggleNet about a brief interview he did with the UK Daily Sun (or something...XD) and they had pictures of him with this brunette chick. Duuudde. This girl was a tot-al tanorexic. Like, full on orange. It was not cute. At all. My mind kept on screaming "Skank Alert!" as I read the entire article. Sorry. XD Just thought I'd share.
moogle
LOL, I wonder if it was the same one he went to batman premier with.

I agree with what you're saying Mia. It's true that in canon it is hard to see the Draco and Ginny that we like in fanon, simply because of how they were set up. But, I think that somehow those ideas had to come from somewhere. You know what they say, there's no smoke without fire, so somehow there had to be something that would suggest these two's fanon characters have at least been grounded somewhere in canon.
Fire
I agree. I think that we saw something in these two and it grew from there. We made them in a sense in the fandom world. I personally think that they had the potential and reeked of the characterization we've placed them with in fanon. So like moogle said 'no smoke without fire' but I do agree with you on that. But to me there were these glimpses that showed Ginny like we percieve her. And she just turned into a puddle of gooey mess wth Harry IMHO. I think the passion in her which has been mentioned I think...and by JKR (but I don't really take the interviews to heart, she makes Ginny sound - too perfect. Not normal) so I think it ignites that fire in her. And Draco may have totally disgusted me with his cowardice at some times but there's something in him that I guess I saw which relates to the fanon. Am I making sense? tongue.gif

xoxo
Hana
Alexandria Malfoy
Yup. Same girl.

And yeah, I think their fanon characterization's have some root in canon. I see them as amplified versions of their canon counterparts.

And, Hana, I definitely think that JKR makes Ginny sound like a Mary-Sue in interviews. I'm sorry, but no one is that morally righteous and aesthetically perfect in real life. But, it is her universe, so I have to respect her characterizations. I guess I'm placing some displaced anger into past reviews where people have said that I write characters that are OOC. Most fanfic features OOC versions of the actual characters!! XD

Fire
Exactly! I think we built the characters from what they could have been and totally agreeing no one I repeat no-one can be so dang perfect. It's just not right nor possible *headesk* A love interest does NOT need to be perfect rolleyes.gif
I think they stem from canon but it really pops out of the pages to me IMO in the fanfics' biggrin.gif

xoxo
Hana
moogle
Personally I prefer when people make D/G how they view them rather than how JKR necessarily portrayed them. It makes the characters more believable in a sense... if that makes sense laugh.gif

There are some people that just can't do it though. Or rather, I should say that there are some people who can't get the D/G that I see, and then I feel they're OOC. I dunno how to explain it.

I agree with JKR making Ginny a Mary-Sue. Poor thing always gets ruined by interviews and such. She's so not perfect, and I love to highlight her flaws because to me they are what make her interesting. Same with Draco. Their flaws are what make them so perfect for one another.
Fire
I agree with all of that you said. It's true. I find that once they have flaws they become utterly lovable. Like it's hilarious in fics when Ginny gets sick and totally adorable! I know what you mean, I absolutely love your D/G moogle.

moogle
Aw, shucks, you're going to make me blush blushing.gif

I'm glad you feel the same though. I just think it would be so unbelievably boring if people made Draco and Ginny perfect. I love them with flaws, and I love to make them have flaws.

Haha! Just because of that I have to see if that's true. Hmmm... Ginny Potter? No. Luna Potter? No. Fleur Potter? No. Hannah Potter? No. Susan Potter? No. You're right, the only name that can go with Potter is Hermione biggrin.gif.

Okay, now to why I ship D/G. Well first I hated both characters. So I searched youtube for D/G-vids to see if people were shipping them. XD And I found lots of videos and didn't believe it lol. So then I searched for fanfictions. And I found one, which was great(except... there was R/Hr in it >.<). So then I started shipping D/G. XDDD

Btw, that D/G fanfiction was the first fanfiction I read in English.
moogle
Hello, HippogriffLove, glad to see you decided to come in here and share your D/G love. We've been getting rather lonely of late.

That's funny you hated both characters, but I can understand why. Yes, we are a crazy portion of the HP fandom, constantly vying with our Dramione friends, but I like to think we're the better half. *cough*

Anyway, I'm curious about this fanfic now. Do you remember what the name of it was?

No, it was so long ago I read it. And also the writer who wrote that fanfic never completed it.
moogle
Aw, that's a shame.

Ah well.
selenhekate75
I hate it when that happens

I'm still not sure if I can call myself a Draco/Ginny shipper. I like them in some fanfics, but only in those in which the author got both characters the way I see them and there are very, very few of those.

I started shipping Draco/Ginny because I accidently stumbled upon a story I still consider the best Draco/Ginny fanfic ever. It was "A Marriage of Convenience" by moogle.

I was searching for a new Harry/Hermione story to read but forgot to filter my search criteria. That way I stumbled open this story, which was on page 1 of the New/Updated page, and thought the summary sounded interesting. I love forced marriage fics and had already read nearly all Harmony stories about this topic. I was bored and decided half-heartedly to check the fic out. And I loved it. I love both characters and their relationship in this story. It's finaly a story in which Ginny is neither slutty nor a boring, naive little girl. And Draco is a guy I can really sympathize with in this story. Yes, he is a spoiled and arrogant brat most of the time, but he is a lonely boy who is hopelessly overwhelmed by his parents expectations, too.
