R/Hr: Because Ron really matured in DH... That's why he Confunded the driving examiner and lied to Hermione about it...
Don't forget, either, that the examiner was a
Muggle. Thus Ron not only cheated to get his license, but showed once again the
Mugglophobia he and his siblings drank in with Molly's milk (and we've seen how Arthur's
Mugglophilia annoys the hell out of
her!). To put it another way, he showed once again his disdain (conscious or otherwise) for
Hermione's very lineage! Truly a
wonderful husband for her...
Speaking of Arthur, wouldn't he just be
pink with pride to know that his youngest son is not only a probable public menace on the roads, but in this way also a probable
walking black eye for wizard/Muggle relations? (Remember his response to Dudley getting the Ton-Tongue Toffee from Fred and George!)
Then Ron lamented to Harry Hermione's lack of faith in his ability to pass the driving test, prompting Hermione to ego-stroke Ron (
reflexively, it appears) by claiming to have had "complete faith" in him.
Then there was Ron's remark to nervous first-year Rose: "We'll disown you if you're not in Gryffindor," which Hermione (in chorus with Ginny)
reflexively smoothed over with, "He didn't mean it." Why
reflexively so -- unless, as
FenrisWolf has suspected, this had become a
habit of Ron's? And on top of that, he tried to foster a feud between Rose and Scorpius Malfoy, adding that Arthur "would never forgive you if you married a pure-blood."
Then there were the numerous students on and off the Express who, to Albus, were apparently staring at his dad Harry. Ron told Albus, "It's
me [they're staring at]. I'm extremely famous" -- indications that he was still jealous of Harry's fame (despite knowing full well the price Harry had to pay for it!) after 26 years of knowing him.
Now if all
that's not maturity, what is?
