Anyway, I say Hermione. I mean I'm sure they would like whoever he liked, but Hermione was his best friend for 7 years, stuck by him through the war and everything (assuming that Harry's parents survived and Harry defeated Voldy). And plus I can just see him explaining about Ginny:
Harry: "Mum, Dad, this is my girlfriend, Ginny."
*Lily smiles and hugs her and James smiles and shakes her hand*
Lily: "So how did you meet her?"
Harry: "Well when I went to my friend Ron's house one summer she was there. She was crazy about me. She broke dishes around me, and sent me valentines, and completely freaked out when I saved her when she was 12. *Harry beams*
*Lily and James exchange worried looks*
James: "So uh Ginny. You've liked Harry a long time?"
Ginny: "Yes sir, ever since I first read about him when I was 7.
*Lily and James turn to each other and mouth "seven?"*
*Lily, turning back to Ginny says*: And you met Harry when you were seven?"
Ginny: "Oh no!" *laughs* "I met him when i was 10."
*Parents mentally do math, realizing she's liked him for about 8 years* *Both become freaked out*
Lily: "Well it was nice to meet you, but I'm afraid you're going to have to go. We told Remus and Sirius we'd uh meet them for dinner."
Harry: "Mum it's noon!"
Lily: "Well uh...yeah well its a full moon so we have to eat early."

Haha! That was great!! thumbup.gif

Plus, I would think that Lily and James would probably like Hermione better since they'd be more familiar with her (she is one of Harry's best friends after all unlike Ginny who is merely Ron's sister until the werid book that was HBP...).

Let's see...

Remus would be inclined to like Hermione, and Sirius, Ginny. They would bicker on the topic, Lupin writing long, dramatic essays akin to the sort in Pumpkin Pie's Army, and after reading one, Paddy would essentially say, "Hey, look, Moony, Harry and Gin-Gin are snogging again!" after which Lupin would headdesk.

Lily would attempt to have a neutral opinion on the matter, while James would invairably point out how much Ginny reminds him of his Tiger Lily. Eventually, Lily would decide that R/Hr is absolutely meant to happen, and that if nobody *knows* what she thinks of the glorious alternate reality where a Narcissa-clone and a miniature George coexist in siblinghood, they won't care.

This is a good question...and I actually don't have the faintest idea. I think Sirius would be fine with Harry dating Ginny simply beause she's hot...and its Sirius. He'd give Harry a pat on the back and all that "manly" stuff. But, if you go from "cannon" (yea..not going there) you never really see Sirius having any interaction with Ginny...he's all Harry and Hermione all the time...even when he floos them at Hogworts (my spelling really sucks..) in OOTP, he's mostly talking to H-squared. So...I think he'd pick Hermione in the long run...Remus would pick Hermione also...and if I had to guess I'd say that Lily and James would pick Hermione also; simply because she was with Harry through everything and she kept him on the right path. I know this post was forever ago, but I'm new to this subforum and am skimming through this thread.

I am going to say this and only this...

At first glance Ginny may seem to be the perfect girl for harry.. I mean she is full of fire and talented..But she is not really what a parent would call a good choice if they look a little deeper.. I mean she dates random guys and even her own brothers think that she is loose (no none of them used that exact word, but I am). I believe that Hermione would have been their choice. Sweet, muggleborn like Lily, smart, full of attitude, and a constant for Harry..When he has no one else he has Her...What parent could resist this?

So...you never dated in high school? Ever? Or never wanted to at least? Ginny was not "loose." She dated two guys in two years. To most teenagers, a year long relationship is practically marriage. It's forever in the little time scheme of their minds. Loose? No. Serial monogamist? Maybe.

As for what Lily and James would want for Harry: I think they'd want whatever he wanted. Whatever made him happy would make them happy.

Harry and Ginny always reminded me of that 3 doors down song, Let Me Go.
Especially the chorus: You Love me but you don't know who I am
I'm torn between this life I lead and Where I stand
And you love me but you don't
You love me but you don't
You love me but you don't know me...

Yea..., but it could just be me. I don't doubt that Harry was happy with Gin-Gin but...I always felt like he dated her as a way to escape being "The Boy who Lived"...all the responsibilities that he had...it kind of reminds me of Clark Kent and Lana Lang on Superman...he chooses to be with her because she makes him feel normal...but guess what? He's not, and she's keeping him from his "Destiny"...I really need to stop watching Smallville

But...Ginny didn't keep him from his "destiny." She didn't throw a fit when he broke it off at the end of HBP. If she had, then maybe you would have a point, but she obviously understood what he had to do, not just because of some prophecy (which she didn't know about at the time) but because she knew that Harry wouldn't be able to rest until he fought Voldemort, win or lose.

And Harry understood that she was somewhat of a distraction. That's why he broke it off, even though he missed her. In DH he drew comfort from seeing that she was inside Hogwarts on the Marauder's Map. Even heroes need a respite from those demands, no matter how brief, and Ginny provided that. Actually, the more I think of them that way, the more I can forgive Jo for not being too specific about their romantic interludes. She was even his respite from us readers. laughing.gif

Yea...they're not exactly like Lana/Clark...but they do resemble them somewhat...I almost laughed at your last comment...but I think I'm too sleep deprived and laughing hurts my head...but that was closest i came to in the past half hour
