Full Version: Art: Best H/H artists + lack of H/H drawings?
Portkey forums - Kindred Spirits > > H/H Art, Media, Poems, Songs
Drake
Is it just me, or is there a horrendus lack of real art for the H/H ship?

Don't get me wrong- I know that there are some AMAZING artists out there. But so much of what I see is photomanips and chibi-styles. Now, I can't draw to save my life, but considering the following H/Hr has, I'd wager there are lots of artists out there. I'd like to see some art that shows the dynamic of Harry and Hermione, not just Dan and Emma pasted on TomKat- those are amusing, but I think the fandom has gotten lazy about art.

So, recs, thoughts, whatever? I guess that I'm really looking for is stuff that I can look at for a while, notice all kinds of little details- namedrop, but along the lines of what Stefy (sp?) does.
Ancient Werewolf
I have to agree about the manips. Don't get me wrong, but IMO, they waste space. They're just Hollywood!Harry and Hollywood!Hermione...

There are some very good artists out there, who have done great jobs, but lately I haven't seen anything new.

Though I'm kind of biased for anime/manga style (which, IMO, is lacking), including chibis and SDs... tongue.gif

Maybe PK could have a contest to draw attention (is this considered a pun?) to the wonderful ways of art.
Hobbes
I can draw stick people to the best of my ability. biggrin.gif In all seriousness, I love looking at good H/Hr art. I know some good ones, but I can't remember where to find them. When I do, I'll edit this and add them.

Edit: A few recs for you.

LMRourke: A lot of nice realitic art. Her Gallery She only has one H/Hr art, but it's here.

AC: Once again, a small amount. Good quality, though. His gallery at Subtle Signs

~Eva-Black: It's a cartoony style and you may not like that, but it's worth it. It's pretty and man, is it funny. Her Gallery My personal favorite is this one.

Hello!
Yea, I totally agree with the lack of good artwork for the ship, though to be honest I have huge trouble finding any HP art that I actually like. I have to say I love Anneth Lagamo's fan-art (mainly the sketches - I'll link at the end) but yea the photo manip stuff just annoys me cos thats not Harry and Hermione...
Really wish I had more time on my hands to try to do some stuff but too many deadlines etc atm, and in my last attempt Harry was way off.
Does anyone have the link to the artist mentioned in the first post - Stefy?
Oh, the link to Anneth Lagamo's site (though its more the trio and some H/G I still love the way she draws them...)

Pseudo- I don't have the link to the page, but here are a few of her best ones (in my opinion).

If that helps to show the kind of art I mean, good. I REALLY like those pictures.

And I think there is good art in HPdom- Hermione/Snape has a ridiculously large amount of it, too. I don't care that he is Snape, the classic SS/HG icon is amazing. There are also lots of good portraits of individual characters. When Artistic Alley was booming, it had good stuff, too. The farther back you browse, the more art you find, and the fewer photomanips.

Hobbes- That's me, too. I can't draw at all, and I feel a bit bad about criticizing the art, when I can't do any better. I really liked the middle one by AC.

Werewolf- Indeed. I really wish I had some of the stuff saved, but when we got a new computer I lost it all. The contest would be a cool idea. Maybe if we could get authors to volunteer to write a backround story for the top pieces of art? I'd do that- though I only have one H/Hr things, and it's unbetad and unposted, so I doubt I would be any incentive.

EDIT: This is the Snape/Hermione piece I referenced. http://www.shillusions.com/displayimage.ph...cat=0&pos=3

It's great art, was on the front page of one of the main Snape/Hermione archives for a long time. You've probably seen it before.
Miss Mady
What about Ms. Stefy? I think she's one of the best artists of our ship.

Stefy

I love manips, but I do enjoy "real art" more.

I don't know of anyone who draws just like Stefy, who is quite talented. I do know some other artists who draw lovely H/Hr, NOT chibi style or photomanips. My favorite H/Hr artists are Nacey (aka NapalmNacey here on PK), demosthenes91, Dark Rune, muddgutts, amandioka, esicardi and berenice potter.

Agreed! It's not my thing. A lot of them make me cringe and are just as bad as those pics where they paste Rupert's face on Dan's body just because Dan--as Harry--is beside Emma--as Hermione--all the time.

I'm a big anime and manga fan, but I have to part opinions with you on this one. I love anime and manga, but I don't really like them bleeding onto my H+Hr fanart.

I love Steffy's work. It's amazing.
star22
I'm going to disagree on manips. Bad ones are stupid, but the good ones can be really creative and take a lot of work and skill. They can be just as much real art as drawn stuff.
Lady Whitehart
Photo manips have there place, but if I want to see fan art, I want to see an artist's interpretation of the characters. This is coming from someone who cannot draw a straight line with a ruler. I just cringe at the thought of those Alan/Jill Equus pics being used with Emma or Bonnie. Or worse Alan Rickman's face on Dan's body. Excuse me I'm going to puke.gif
ChiffaniChan
I love Manipulations, mostly only the ones I make, it's mostly just fun to make them. smile.gif I do try to make them look real.

I draw also, Manga Style, because that's what I like to draw.

I have both my Manips/Art at my Lj.
Maeve
I dont think manip is that bad.
Agree...some of them are rubbish.
But on the other hand, some are just great!!! You even have to take a careful look to say it is a fake. Just a quick glance and you may have a jaw drop with the question "when did they take this pic?"

And art...well, you dont know how much time it take to finish a single pic.
Maybe more than 20 hours from sketching, scaning, lining and coloring in computer... It's a time consuming hobby.
Besides, artists also have to study, to go to work. Rarely do they have time for their hobby.

And in my experience, designing takes less time than drawing art. I have some arts...but they took lots of my time so I could only do them when I'm really inspired or when there is a big event (like valentine ^^)
I think that may explain the reasons for the lack of art.

I agree, there are a couple pics that are really good- but most of them are not.

And I know that it takes time- it just seems like compared to other forums, H/Hr has less quality art.

Most of the Manips I see that are go are the H/Hr ones, most R/hr and H/g are not so good.
mystiquefire
My excuse is that I can only draw things from nature but I absolutely cannot draw people. I tried drawing HP stuff then gave up because it looked horrible.

I'm much more comfortable doing manips. It's easier and less messy.
anaelle317
Depends on the manips...I personally love alot of them...and as for a lack of drawings...well that s not really true unless talking about portkey's gallery.
I hope they fix the gallery soon because i'd really like to post some of my own drawings.

I believe the artist is Stefynik.

Her work is displayed on Portkey and here: Stefynik's work on Flickr

Miss Mady
Accio Harry!
I consider myself quite the expert when it comes to H/Hr art. Since I started my Harmony myspace last month, I have been though no less than 6000 pics/drawings/manips/icon/sigs/avvies. I am talkin a LOT of H/Hr.

If you want to see some good stuff, go to:

http://www.myspace.com/hmsharmony

Also, imo, I'd say the best are Stefy (absolutely beautiful), Yethro (who draws H/Hr as they appear in the movies) and the wonderful Gwendy (who has the most pics on my myspace page)!

Side note: I don't think I have ANY H/Hr manips on the page...I better go check...

You have the H/Hr blend that I made on there and in that is the H/Hr Manip/Kiss. lol
& There's that other H/Hr Manip/Kiss & a couple of the icon have manips on them.

Stefy is just brilliant I mean her art is breathtaking! Her perception of Hermione is wonderfully cannon and gorgeous. Also her attention to detail is just perfect and beautiful.

I was surfing on the web when I got home from work,
and found this on Deviant Art.

(Sigh)

I guess that there are still a few of us out there, despite everything.

If the artist of said pic is a member here, I like it. kudos.

Thanks! In my head, the combo with Gone With the Wind was a lot more cracktastic than what the final product ended up looking like. tongue.gif

That's so beautiful.

That's a glorious poster! The romantic picture of Gone with the Wind sure never fades with the years. heart.gif

A good poster for DH if it turned out the way we desired.

Can somebody tell me who the most popular Harmony fanartists are? I'm familiar with popular artists from other ships, but I don't know who the reps of H/Hr fanart are.

I'm looking for fanartists who are more experienced with their skills and do high-quality art. I'm familiar with Napalmnancey's awesome work, but I'm wondering who else's work is really great like that.
Miss Mady
Stefynik is brilliant, as well. You might have to scroll down a bit, but her H/Hr art/HP art is there.

Gwendy is a good one, too, but you can't really find her art online (at least I can't find any atm) - sorta more info.

Stefnik is a dream come true to the Harmonian fandom. Her art captures the essence of Harry and Hermione its brilliant. I keep one of her pictures in my Harry/Hermione vignette notebook for inspiration.

I e-mailed her a LONG time ago after DH asked if she would do more Harmonian art, and she replied saying she would. But she hasnt aaaaah! I suggest more of us e-mail her.

I found this video
of Gwendy's artwork. I had not seen most of these before - especially the ones from OotP. Brilliant work.
Quidditchgirl175
Mine is Muddgutts what he dose for our ship simply beautiful and brilliant I wish that he would continue. thumbup.gif
Ravenclaw(d69)
Okay this is really random and I dont know why I'm posting this...but you see my icon? So like I saw it a while back and I got really sad cause I thought of what if this was Harry's or Hermione's secret stack of memories and letters from eachother, when they are in their married lives to Ron and Ginny. And they would be looking at them and then crying and...yeah...
Hobbes
Beatrice_Potter, Adamnokia, Siria Eva Black, Yamato King, Yethro, midnight_ljc....and plenty of others if you search DeviantArt. A lot of these artists can be found on livejournal. Muddgutts is one such guy.

Hope this helped!

EDIT: Also, I was lucky enough to grab her website before she took it down...or whatever happened and here's the link to all the fanart she had up to the point I found it.

I love all the art done by hooobajube. (I can't find any of the pictures right now because there's no way to search the gallery)
Natasha
Thank you guys! I've been searching for fanart from all ships and Harry/Hermione and Neville/Luna are the ones giving me the most trouble. Stefy's work is great! I wish she would color more of them, but they're still great. Gwendy is almost the Harmony twin of an R/Hr fanartist out there named Lauren, because their styles are extremely similar. Yethro was very unique. My favorite is still Nalpalmnacey, though. These are my faves from her:

I found her stuff on Deviantart.

Also, Amandioka is great: http://amandioka.deviantart.com/gallery/#_featured--3

Tottaly agree. I have yet to see a more perfect (in my mind) interpretation of Hermione.

The Japanese harmonians do make some of the best fanart out there here's one of them from what i recall.

http://juliet.princess.cc/

Warning it's kinda in japanese. I had to do some navigatinfg before i finally found the fanart of HP. Here's a sample.

And another one. It's another Japanes harmonian fanartist as well. The link to the site is http://kisshou.org/ here.

Again unless you can read Japanese you may have trouble navigating.

blush.gif Hello!

This artist on live journal made a very cute Harry and Hermione comic. Read it here:

Title: Harmonious
Artist: Joarel

http://jorael.livejournal.com/8102.html#cutid1
gal-texter
She's actually a PK mod esp for fanart and fics. smile.gif I like her other artwork as well, like "Haplos ("Touch" or "Caress") and the one borrowed for PK's logo here.

That comic's also posted in our gallery, I think, but we're having technical issues in there now. *edits topic title to include Jo's name* Your orig title was fine, fullmetalfan80, but we mods sometimes reword titles to make them clearer at a glance.

Two of my favorite H/Hr drawings are by shley77, both inspired by PoU:
Here and here.

They're both such beautiful drawings...

My god! That's AMAZING! Like truly amazing! They're both beautiful but I love the first one especially - that's some real talent there!

I'd also have to say Stefy is AMAZING!

They're very well done, esp their faces. Their bodies are a bit too small IMHO, but there's no doubt she's got talent. Or maybe she had intentionally drawn their bodies smaller.

Okay, I know you two should/would rather keep off the ROR, but for the benefit of adult oldbies, here's a mention of shley77 in there, in the "Smut H/H art" topic. biggrin.gif Esicardi made this post on May 18 2004:

That is because you are a guy. Us girls don't want to look at another girl. We want to look at men.
Being a girl myself I completely understand what you say.
There's far more erotic art intended for males than for females.
Shelly has a few pics of older Harry, where he looks pretty handsome.
She draws both H/Hr and H/G. Her gallery is here:
http://shley77.deviantart.com/gallery/
Nothing is R-rated but you will definetely see some skin.
VipyGirl831
Yeah, Stefy is my absolute favorite... I do wish she continued with her H/Hr stuff. I haven't seen anything new by her in a while.

Pen, thanks for the little ROR blurb. Esicardi is so right in her statement though. I dunno why I never joined the ROR forum... I meet all the requirements. Lol. I just never got around to it I suppose. Haha.
