Actually, there's proof to support the love potion theory. Remember way back when in the third book when Mrs. Weasley is talking about how she made a love potion? Like mother, like daughter.

Like mother, like daughter...sheesh, talk about a vicious cycle, especially since Molly is at least partially to blame for Ginny's obsessive crush on The Boy Who Lived (as opposed to Just Harry)... Well, if the theory proves true, then here's hoping Ginny learns something from her betrayal of Harry's trust!

And here's looking forward to seeing the Harmonious truth come out! thumbup.gif wub.gif heart.gif

Uh..I dunno if this is subtle or not but I just love this part..it's in Ootp

Umbridge contemplated Hermione for another long moment, then spoke in what she clearly thought was a motherly voice.

'All right, dear, let's make it just you and me...and we'll take Potter, too, shall we? Get up now.'

Ha..I love it when Umbridge thinking about taking Harry as well...sounds like a mother(though it's not) pursuading her child by using 'something' she likes..or loves...

notice how she paused for a sec: ...just you and me...and we'll take Potter, too... this gab, I really love it!

Did anyone else notice that Hermione still doesn't know that Harry broke up with Ginny. And the crush on Ginny came from nowhere. Sounds lie a silly teeny booper cruch.

Took the words right out of my mouth, but I'm one of those double-delusional people who believes the Love Potion theory tongue.gif

So am I. tongue.gif

Woo hoo! I'm not alone! *happy tear* tongue.gif

Man this topic is still going? I love it! And I'm also a firm believer of the potion. At the beginning of the book when they were at the twins shop, Ginny seemed very curious about it...

"There you go," said Fred proudly. "Best range of love potions you'll find anywhere."

Ginny raised an eyebrow skeptically. "Do they work?"

Hmm, why Ginny...why you wanna know? Have someone in mind you'd like to try it on?

Maybe Ginny didn't use that exact love potion, but it definitely could have sparked the idea. Harry never even looked twice at her during the first part and then poof...he likes her? Sorry, something fishy about that. H/G are over, whether it was real or not.

And honestly, I don't think the trio will survive book seven. It will be down to two or maybe even one. I think JKR will kill off Ron or Harry or maybe even both, but I don't think she'll kill off Hermione.

Kill off Harry and Hermione as lovers together... and Ron is left a much more mature person, and he tells the wizarding world what transpired in the golden trio's battle against he-who-must-not-be-named. There could be a great dramatic scene where Harry and Hermione go to sacrifice themselves to end Voldemort together, and tell a crying Ron to "go and live a good, happy life" for our sake. Now THAT would be a way to end the series... but I don't really think it would happen...

Yeah, I don't see it happening either (apart from the H/Hr relationship blossoming into the true love we've seen already... wub.gif ). After all the abuse and tragedy and crap that Harry's gone through--and because, in spite of all that, he's retained his essential heroic nature and ability to love, HBP's Suave!Harry be darned--he deserves to have a good life. The world owes him that...though, of course, he'll never be conceited about it. Hermione wouldn't ever let him be. smile.gif

I don't think any of the trio will die. In that Radio City Hall thing with J.K. Rowling, she was asked which characters she would eat dinner with or something. And she said something like, "Harry, to apologize for everything I've done to him, Ron, Hermione and... oh, I can't say because then it would give away who lives or who dies" The quote's not exact but it was something like that. Then she goes and states Hagrid and Dumbledore.

Therefore, I don't think the trio will die, in my opinion. biggrin.gif I love Ron, and Harry and Hermione dying together is just a bit cliche for me.

On topic now:

One of the subtle moments that always makes me grin madly like an idiot is in POA, where Harry just got the map and Hermione pesters him to return it and goes something like "I still dont think it's a good idea" and then Harry grins at her and goes, "Gonna turn me in, Hermione?" And Hermione blushes and stammers.

HARRY CAN FLIRT! HE'S NOT THAT CLUELESS! YAY! biggrin.gif
Maria
Whether they be shippy or 'just friends', I love all these subtle H/Hr moments!

Here's another one:

On Christmas morning at Sirius' house in OotP, Harry wakes up and sees Ron halfway through opening his presents. Ron thanks Harry for his excellent Christmas present, and says it's better than Hermione's gift - a homework planner. And if I'm reading this right, Harry sorts through his presents looking for Hermione's and opens it up *first*. :0)

EDIT: Eeek! I just finished reading the part where Harry throws his new homework planner at Fred. Honestly, Harry! rolleyes.gif

LOL HONESTLY HARRY... FOR THROWING A BOOK AT FRED! But that's because Fred and George are being absolutely hilarious with Dobbie's painting.

It's important to note though, that many of these "subtle moments" being posted here are not really shipping moments at all, they're nice, but they're friendship moments! Now I understand our mindset of "the better friends they are, the better lovers they'll eventually be"....
but honestly! Some friendship moments actually hint specifically towards future romantic potential... but many of these are completely neutral and platonic moments that Harry could share with any male buddy!

EEEEE! I know! I was laughing so hard after the couple seconds of squeeing because Hermione is such a lovely character. To think that someone as articulate as her would be rendered to stammering by Harry's grin. Can't blame the girl, though. biggrin.gif

Found another one. During his first OWL exam in OotP, Harry notices where Hermione is sitting and what she was doing. He then sees his first question and is reminded about the time he (and Ron) became friends with her.

QUOTE

Harry turned over his paper, his heart thumping hard - three rows to his right and four seats ahead Hermione was already scribbling - and lowered his eyes to the first question: a) Give the incantation and b ) describe the wand movement required to make objects fly.

Harry had a fleeting memory of a club soaring high into the air and landing loudly on the thick skull of a troll: smiling slightly, he bent over the paper and began to write.

LOL. I'm sorry. I was just thinking of Ron hugging Harry for the longest time after he arrives at Grimmauld. A bit awkward.

But you've raised a good point. Many of the R/Hrs I know berate me for shipping H/Hr because they say that all of the 'shippy' moments I have are just 'friendship' moments. [Then I went, "Hello, biased much?" But anyway..]
red_samurai21
i found one! and rather by accident too, but that's not the point. here it is, from Mayhem at the Ministry, chapter ten, Goblet of Fire:

He (Harry) had teetered for a moment on the verge of saying 'me', but couldn't bring himself to make Hermione look any more horrified than she already did.

aww... sweet of him to think that.. wub.gif

I think one of my favorite subtle H/Hr moments was in the fourth book, when they were talking about the egg, and Hermione says something to the effect of the champoins are supposed to figure out the tasks on their own. And then, Harry says so that only she can hear "I was supposed to figure out the dragon on my own too,"

Other subtle moments I like
1) the fact that what happened in PoA with the time turner is "their little secret"
2) When Harry notices she's not in her usual chair

and that's all I've got for now tongue.gif

This isn't a subtle Harry/Hermione moment, but it's a subtle anti-Harry/Ginny moment.
You know when in OOTP Harry gets to Grimmauld, BELLOWS at Ron and Hermione, and then after dinner, wants to know what's going on with the Order and Voldy and all that? Fred and George fight to stay against Mrs. Weasely's wishes, she's REALLY uptight. Ron and Hermione are about to be booted by her but Harry stands up for them right? Then Ginny is told to get lost, and she screams and kicks all the way up the stairs and goes crazy in protest. Harry doesn't do a thing to stand up for her and insist that she get to stay, like he did with Ron and Hermione. He doesn't even show any sorry feeling about it! He just lets her get booted. tongue.gif

This is definitely one of my favorite subtle H/Hr moments. I love how conscious Harry is of Hermione during all the OWLs.

Here are two moments for OotP that I don't think have been mentioned. They may not be necessarily shippy to anyone else, but I love them.

QUOTE
"You didn't mean that," said Harry quietly.
"No...well...all right...I didn't," she said, whiping her eyes angrily. "But why does he have to make life so difficult for himself - for us?"
- OotP USHC Page 701

Not much I know, but I love Hermione referring to her and Harry and as an "us". And later she and Harry act as a unit when Ron tries to get them to back off their promise to Hagrid about taking care of Grawp.

"The Cruciatus Curse ought to loose your tongue," said Umbridge quietly.
"No!" shrieked Hermione. "Professor Umbridge - it's illegal" - but Umbridge took no notice.

AND

QUOTE
And taking a deep breath, she cried "Cruc -"
"NO!" shouted Hermione in a cracked voice from behind Millicent Bulstrode. "No - Harry - Harry, we'll have to tell her."
- OotP USHC 747

There are a couple things about this I like. First, Hermione is the only one to make any sort of noise when Umbridge is thtreatening to curse Harry. It's obvious the others could have at least made muffled shouts of protest because they reacted well enough when they thought Hermione was going to confess to Umbridge.

Second, I love that Hermione calls out in a "cracked voice". The thought of Umbridge doing that to Harry just kills her - I can just hear the desperation in her voice perfectly in my head. Hermione loves that boy, I have no doubt! (And even if I'm proved wrong I will still believe.)

I always saw the scene where Hermione put the time turner around Harry's neck as a subtle clue using symbolism. Aren't there marriage ceremonies where the couple encircle their hands or are encircled around their necks with an item or rope? Joining two together as one...circle of infinity/forever.
The Obsidian Warlock

In a Greek Orthodox wedding ceremony, there is a pair of hoops bound together by a ribbon that are placed on the couple's heads, and the best man performs this intricate switching of the hoops during the ceremony, effectively symbolizing that the two people are effectively one. It's quite similar to the symbology of that time-turner.
Woodrow M
Easily the scene in the Gryffindor common room after Harry kisses Cho and explains it to Ron and Hermione. The jealousy is thick enough to cut with a knife.

EDIT: I would cite the exact passage, but I don't have OotP with me right now so... yeah.

Well this one is really subtle, so subtle in fact that it might not even be a moment at all! more of a anti Hr/R thing

In HBP, in the Sectumsempra chapter, when Harry is debating what to do with Ginny he thinks this

QUOTE
he found himself wondering how best to get her on her own: it would have been ideal if Slughorn had given another of his little parties, for Ron would not be around - but unfortunately, Slughorn seemed t have given them up.

This is after Ron breaks with Lavender, so long after the poisonig incident. Harri is around his friends all the time and sees their day to day interactions (witch we hardly ever do) yet he is sure Ron would not be invited to the party. A bit of a stretch I know but...

It's my first post here too! I don't know if i'll post regularly, I just finished rereading the series and I felt like searching the net for other people opinions. I'm not an enthusiastic shipper but I definetly like H/Hr better than the mess that is Hr/R

I believe in Catholic ceremonies, a circular cord or a figure 8 cord is placed around the couples shoulders to symbolize being bound together until death do they part.

Hrm, Interesting - that might be a regional thing. We don't do that here, in the upper Midwest of the United States. The only regional tradition I'm aware of up here is the unity candle, which seems to be pretty big across most of the US.
RhiandraChristine
I found this on a wedding symbolism page:

Hispanic
During the wedding ceremony, thirteen gold coins (representing the Groom's dowry to his Bride) are often blessed by the priest, and passed between the hands of the newlyweds several times before ending with the Bride. A large rosary or white rope ("lasso") is sometimes wound around the couple's shoulders in a figure-8 symbol of "infinity" during the wedding ceremony to symbolize their union as one.

Handfasting
Handfasting is an ancient Celtic wedding ritual in which the bride's and groom's hands are tied together — hence the phrase "tying the knot".

I still think there may be others.

Careful there, we may look like hypocrits if we get excited about Harmonian URST. That's somebody else's schtick. It's important to note that yes maybe H and Hr have some URST but it's in a healthy dose and they're love is not at all based on immaturity and bickering. But they may have a few choice moments of tension. It makes it cute and in-taste when it's not overdone.

Here's one but it's quite simple:

"Been having a nice little chat with her about whether or not I'm a lying, attention-seeking prat, have you?" Harry said loudly.
"No," said Hermione calmly, "I told her to keep her big fat mouth shut about you, actually."

I know that it's really what a friend would do but it just feels great that Hermione is standing up for Harry. blush.gif

I just love how it goes hand in hand, like the GoF, when the Dark Mark was up in the sky and Malfoy told Hermione something to the effect of "You'll be next Mudblood", Harry got very angry and said "Hermione's a witch." I love moments like that tongue.gif

He (Harry) caught a brief glimpse of a gloomy high-ceilinged, twin-bedded room, then there was a loud twittering noise, followed by an even louder shriek, and his vision was obscured by a large quantity of very bushy hair -- Hermione had thrown herself onto him in a hug that nearly knocked him flat, while Ron's tiny owl, Pigwidgeon, zoomed excitedly round and round their heads. -OoTP; pg. 62

I love it how Hermione hugs Harry.

The door banged open. Hermione came tearing into the room, her cheeks flushed and her hair flying. There was an envelope in herhand.
“Did you -- did you get -- ?”
She spotted the badge in Harry's hand and let out a shriek.
“I knew it!” she said excitedly, brandishing her letter. “Me too, Harry, me too!”

“No,” said Harry quickly, pushing the badge back into Ron's hand. “It's Ron, not me.”
“It -- what?”

“Ron?” said Hermione, her jaw dropping. “But…are you sure? I mean --”
She turned red as Ron looked around at her with a defiant expression on his face.

“It's my name on the letter,” he said.
“I…” said Hermione, looking thoroughly bewildered. “I…well…wow! Well done Ron! That's really --”
“Unexpected,” said George, nodding.
“No,” said Hermione, blushing harder than ever, “no, it's not…Ron's done loads of…he's really…” -OotP, pg. 162-163

Why did Hermione become so unenthusiastic when she knew that Ron was a prefect not Harry? whistling.gif

“Oh no,” said Hermione, looking relieved, “if you're going that means I can go without being rude too, I'm absolutely exhausted and I want to make more hats tomorrow. Listen, you can help me if you like, it's quite fun, I'm getting better, I can do patterns and all sorts of things now.”
Harry looked into her face, which was shining with glee, and tried to look as though he was vaguely tempted by this offer.
“Er…no, I don't think I will, thanks,” he said. “Er -- not tomorrow. I've got loads of homework to do…”
And he traipsed off to the boys' stairs, leaving her looking slightly disappointed behind him. -OotP pg. 278

Seems like Granger is disappointed that Harry couldn't spend more time with her while making hats. whistling.gif

Harry laughed again, though he was not sure whether or not George was joking. He imagined trying to conceal from Hermione that he had received T's in all his O.W.L.s and immediately resolved to work harder from now on. -OotP, pg. 311

Harry really doesn't want to disappoint Hermione.

“Harry,” she (Hermione) said timidly, “don't you see? This…this is exactly why we need you…we need to know what it's r-really like…facing him…facing V-Voldemort.”
It was the first time she had said Voldemort's name, and it was this, more than anything else, that calmed Harry. -OotP, pg. 328

Seeing that only Hermione saying Voldemort for the first time while he's busy having an outburst... that calmed me.

It's the same for a Filipino wedding. We do the passing of the coins and we use a thick, silk rope tied in a figure-8 to drape over the couple. We also light ritual candles.

It's interesting how you relate that to the Time Turning incident, especially since a charm that turns time implies some kind of unending cycle. I mean obviously, it's not really shippy, and I'm pretty sure JKR didn't intend any kind of symbol other than Harry and Hermione were working together again, but it's still interesting.
