1. Because Hermione's patronus is an otter and Slughorn in HBP mispronounces Harry's name as Parry Otter.

I like this reason. thumbup.gif

Because platonic friendship is simply the name for the period between the first look and the first kiss

Can't agree any more! thumbup.gif

My Top....Apparently 30
30) The growing sexual tension
29) All the flirting in HBP
28) Because I'm blatantly and proudly delusional (does that count as a reason?)
27) Because when he saw Hermione at the Yule Ball "his jaw dropped"
26) Because he talks to her about things first (GoF)
25) Because they stick by each other
24) Because it's impossible for them to lie to eachother
23) Because they finish eachother's sentences/can read eachother's minds (GoF, OotP)
22) They hate to see the other one hurt
21) They put themselves in danger to save the other
20) Because he pays attention and can get her exactly the right Christmas present
19) Because he opens her gifts first
18) Because a few of the major plot points happen to be "their little secret"
17) Because he came to her for girl advice
16) Because they're both jealous of the other's date (*cough* Cho and Victor *cough*)
15) Because there are so many parralells between them and Lily and James
14) Because I don't see Hermione giving Ron flattening hugs when he walks in the door.
13) Because they are so completely comfortable with eachother
12) Because if the most Rita Skeeter sees it (who, IMO, is the most un-observant person in the world), then there's something there
11) They're the best of friends
10) Because he's lost without her
9) Because she finds him "more fanciable", and he "doesn't think she's ugly"
8) Becuase she gave him his first hug and his first kiss
7) Because she's his conscience (and he actually listens to it!)
6) Because Hermione Weasley sounds wrong
5) Because only Hermione has the guts to tell him when he's being a jerk
4) There is too much evidence to be avoided
3) Because both of their former signifigant others have felt threatened by their friendship
2) Because true love often starts as friendship
1) Because arguments, bickering, polar opposites (opposites attract, but those two are too opposite to attract) and having nothing in common do not equal love

10) Becuase friends make the best lovers
9) Because they look good together
8) Because they teach each other
7) Because she is his conscience
6) Because she says 'love from' in her letters
5) Because the hero always gets the girl
4) Because he needs her to be proud of him
3) Because she needs him to be in her life
2) Because he can't stand the thought of her dying
1) Because my pure, unbiased 10 year old self saw it. It wasn't even a 'ship' then. It was just What Was Meant To Be.
_DarkAngel_
1) IT MAKES SENSE. R/Hr doesn't. All they do is bicker. There's no real REASON why they're attracted to each other.
2) They have this amazing connection. They can practically read each other's thoughts.
3) They're best friends. I personally think that Ron and Hermione would not be friends if it wasn't for Harry. And also I think romance/love should be based on friendship. Which Harry and Hermione have 6 years of.
4) She's always there for him. He would probably be dead if it wasn't for her.
5) Ditto her.
6)They've been through SO much.
7) They work very well together. In POA, OotP, etc.
8) They've never had a major falling out. They get along.
9) According to HHrSoulmates 'REAL equality' Hermione and Harry are totally deserving of each other. Ron and Ginny really are not good enough for them.
10) Harry ending up with some minor character who we haven't seen alot for like 4 books is so not reasonable. Plus it has lust written all over it.
11) Hermione and Ron probably won't last a month.
12) With them there'll definitely be some real love nad romance as opposed to Ron and Ginny's relationships which are based on snogging/physical attraction.
13) Regardless of what R/Hr shippers say, they won't be boring. There are instances where they DO have fun together.
13) She loves him. It's so painfully obvious. She is reduced to tears when he gets angry/emotional. She hates seeing him in pain. SHE LOVES HIM.(had to say it again)
14) He loves her. IMO it isn't as obvious as Hermione's feelings for him. Maybe because of distractions?? I really really cannot believe that he hasn't felt anything romantic for her yet. Maybe if she grabs him and kisses him? :loves the mere thought of it: wub.gif
J.K.R, genius as she is, SO should have made this the Canon ship. It totally fits. That's what matters. Not how many jealous fits Ron and Hermione throw. And not how much they talk about tattoos.

Hexonjellybeans12: wonderful list. I forgot alot of things from on there.smile.gif

I totally agree with ur list DarkAngel thumbup.gif

H/Hr are just meant to be together! I think they complete each other perfectly....they are just a little off track tongue.gif
Eeterw
1. Their love (if they do fall in love) will be based on mutual respect, trust, friendship, and a desire to stay together because they enjoy each other's company.

2. Harry and Hermione already have a great friendship going on the side, so if they ever get tired of having sex all the time they'll still enjoy each other's company.

3. Harry and Hermione acturally likes to be in each other's company. They don't fight all the time when they are together, and when they do fight they can come to a comprimise that satisfies both parties. They are not fighting to try to hurt each other.

4. Harry and Hermione never actively tried to hurt each other, nor to try to make the other one jealous. They have enough respect for each other not to try to manipulate each other's feelings.

5. Harry is already hearing Hermione's voice in his head... If he does end up with someone else, he might call out Hermione's name at night...

6. Their love for each other is not based on physical attractions towards each other, thus even if some day one of them is disfigured, they will still love each other. Harry loves Hermione for her loyalty and intelligence, and Hermione loves Harry for his character and moral strength.

------------The following are written because based on sepiculations----------
-------------------------------Read at your own risk------------------------------

7. Even if Harry preejaculates (10 percent of the male population) and generally sucks at having sex, Hermione will still love him. And even if Harry can no longer get it up (erraction) after reaching the age of 40 something, Hermione will still stay with him.

8. Even if Hermione suffers sexual dysfunction (recent survey estimates 40% of the female population in America) due to stress from her work or just evey day life, Harry will understand and still love her. And even if Hermione cuts off sex with Harry after her menopause, Harry will still stay with her.

9. Harry's love for Hermione and Hermione's love for Harry will definity last longer than the ten years line (the amont of time that a couple generally stays married before they devorce) because even if love dies and reborns every ten years between couples, Harry and Hermione will still love and stays with each other as friends during the in-between period.

10. Even if Harry and Hermione are not able to have kids together due to some reproductive organ dysfunctions, they'll still love each other, and stay togther.
hexonjellybeans12

1) Girls dig Emo guys!!

I agree with you up to 1...smile.gif im a D/e fan as well but we have to keep it on the down low we arent supposed to talk about that here...sorry

my top ten...

1) Harry and Hermione have been better friends than Ron and Hermione have
2)Hermione is not emo seeking type person
3)Hermione sees him for him
4)cares about him so much more than Ginny does...shes the emo type no offense.
5)Hermione is Harry's "go to" person after all she is the only one to get him to come out in OotP.
6)Hermione is basically Harry's crutch
7) Nothing flows better than Hermione Potter
8)Hermione personlity wise fits lily perfectly
9)Harry is seeking the wrong kind of attention and I think It'll just take him longer to see Hermione...like the" I love you..really love you" way.
10)JK has a way with twisting things around:)

well i just red that famous interview with J.K and well i hope shes just hiding it from us because after all the essays ive read i think they make a lot of sense and well i dont think she put those moments in for nothing.

i dont have 10 reasons but i do think HARMONY RULES!
lunalumos
1. "Harry needs her badly."
blueangel
Here is my list, in no particular order:

1-Because H/Hr really brings something to the main plot, in all aspects.
2-Because all reasons that JKR herself gives to explain why Ginny is the ideal girl for Harry and blah blah blah, acuatlly describes Hermione better than Ginny.
3-Because even during Harry's "monster in the chest" period, he keeps thinking about what Hermione would say or think, even caring for elves like she did before.
4-Because Hermione, even when she's so totally OOC, still shows signs that Harry is "fanciable" (like she says) - and by the way it's the moments when she looks the most like the girl we have always known.
5-Because HBP is so different from the other books than it definitely hides something, I've never changed my mind about that, even after the IoD; because there's almost no mystery left if we take HBP for cash.
6-Because at the end of HBP, Harry and Ginny have broken up
7-Because at the end of HBP, R/Hr yet have to be really shown as a couple, and JKR had plenty of opportunities to give us clearer indications that they were.
8-Because Harry is the best guy for Hermione.
9-Because Hermione is the best girl for Harry.
10-Because when you think about it, it's almost better if the ship still has not happened and it's book 7... you know what they say, keep the best for the end! (At least it would be better than H/G, who, according to JKR herself (I'm paraphrasing here), where destined to "come together and part").
11-Because love will play a big role (all clues lead to that) at the end, love, not lust (H/G) or "unresolved sexual tension" (R/Hr).
12-Because I continue to think that there is too much of that love potions allusions, constantly, in HBP; join it with the also very much repeated statement that true love cannot come from a love potion, add the fact that all the "ships" happening in HBP really looks like passion and lust inspired by a love potion, and I think it's not so delusional to come to the conclusion that the HBP ships are not the right ones.

Let's not lose hope!

snoopy_pie
My reasons:

1) Harry and Hermione compliment each other's personalities. Harry is emotional and Hermione is logical and helps keep him grounded.

2) Harry and Hermione do argue but there is always some kind of compromise or reconciliation that doesn't revolve around another person. The two of them can work it out alone without anyone else being the cause or reason for the make up.

3) Hermione cares for Harry and if her actions are of any consequence at all She places Harry above anyone else in the series that we have seen so far to include her parents AND Ron. Herons cannot deny that she does this.

Ron is a great guy and he deserves to have his lady put him before anyone else. Hermione has repeatedly shown that she places Harry before Ron always. Harry has at last shown in HBP that he places Hermione's needs before Ron.

4) Harry and Hermione already work together fantastically and they most always on the same page and even completes each others thoughts in some parts of the book. Alot of times Ron hasn't even caught up with their train of thought.

coincidence? I think not!
Now those arn't all my reasons but those are enough for now biggrin.gif
lunalumos
Aaah, there are a few times, when they "argue"/"banter"/"bicker" where Harry can't help but compliment her in his comebacks and they flirt. Sorry, but it's there. It's pretty obvious.
ladylaughalot
I remember the first time Harry flirted with Hermione back in POA....

QUOTE
pg 216

Hermione bit her lip, looking extremely worried.
'Are you going to report me?' Harry asked her, grinning.
'Oh - of course not - but honestly, Harry -'

The thought of Harry grinning at her when he asks if she's going to report him, knowing full well she won't, and Hermione getting all flustered at his grin.... wub.gif It still brings a smile to my face. If that wasn't Harry flirting, and Hermione responding... well then I don't know anything about flirting at all...

10. Because Rowling made sure we wouldn't grow too attached to H/G.
9. Because Harry seems uncomfortable with R/Hr.
8. Because six books in, we still don't have a clear "no".
7. Because Harry makes Hermione cry in the hospital wing.
6. Because Harry doesn't make Hermione cry in bathrooms.
5. Because Hermione is the only person Harry thinks of when she isn't there.
4. Because Harry has never had a chance to think about Hermione without being interrupted--yet.
3. Because Harry hears Hermione's voice in his head.
2. Because Hermione has never, ever put anything above Harry.
1. Because Jo Rowling has never resolved a plotline so much as a page before she absolutely had to.

First Brent Dax, love the icon biggrin.gif and welcome to Portkey !

My reasons

10. They got the same initials
9. She did followed him even when they werent friend
8. He rescued her from the Troll even as he didnt had to, so she was his real Damsel in Despair
7. Because he realized in the Ball how beautiful she was and never let her make it forget it
6. She focuses him on the ground and he gives her laughter and adventure
5. She did become his voice of conscience
4. She is the only one that is able to reach for him and he is coming willingly with her
3. Their arguments are productives no desctuctives they are able to make compromise
2. She is seeing Harry as Harry the boy from the train rides and freind and not the Chosen one or the Boy who lived.
1. They completed each other totally: she is his other half, his soulmate
bamaslamma29
1. Because Hermione is the heroine.

2. Because she's the only female developed well enough with Harry.

3. Because Harry thinks Hermione is pretty (GoF), and not ugly (OoTP).

4. Because Hermione thinks Harry has "never been more fanciable". cool.gif

5. Because both Krum and Cho were jealous. wink.gif

6. Because of all of the romantic foreshadowing and similarities to "Emma" and Rowling's other fave books. whistling.gif

7. Because Hermione's focus is ALL on Harry (especially when considering Cho!)

8. Because R/Hr is given no evidence other than "jealousy" from Harry's POV.

9. Because H/G was kept so shallow, brief, and unemotional, and Ginny herself underdeveloped and kept from developing a relationship with the hero.

10.Because H/Hr are on the same wavelength.

Those are my TOP ten. wink.gif

10. Hermione Jane Potter sounds so cool.
9. Hermione always has Harry's back like Harry has her's.
8. Harry and Hermione communicate better than Ron and Hermione do.
7. Harry hears, talks abouts, and thinks about Hermione whenever she's not around.
6. Because respect, loyalty, and a good friendship is a better love story than sexual tension.
5. Harry needs Hermione a lot.
4. Because out of all of Harry's friends, Hermione said Voldemort first.
3. Hermione has never seen Harry as famous and a prized possession but as just plain ole Harry.
2. It didn't take Harry three and a half years to notice Hermione is a girl.
1. Because Harry and Hermione are always on the same page.
jaltesorensen
Many of the reasons on top of this thread can easily be defended.
just not one: the 4th one:
4) They are tottaly oblivious to their growing attractions to eachother
uhm..... that dosent make sense to me. JKR in my mind would have maked it more obvious if it where to happen.
And because they are good friends dosent automatically mean love.

The 1st reason howeever is the best: that girls dig emo guys.
That is correct, especially when Ron in the past have been very immature, but i am afraid that he has matured quite a bit in the end of book 6. Plus JKR also says that he is more mature. But Harry is still more Emo.
ladylaughalot
Ok I have to ask, what the heck is an emo guy?

Also I just thought of another one...

Harry is the alpha male, of course he gets the girl!
Iron Will
'always on the same page', is that a pun? 'cause thats a cool way of putting it!

Jaltsorenson, are you R/Hr or H/Hr? I honestly can't tell!

LadyLaughaLot, An emo guy is like a goth without the make up. the attitude without the showiness.

And quick! where are larissa's signature avatars from? I've gone half crazy tring to find them!
Iceglass
Hmmm...my personal reasons? There are so many! Well, in no particular order, here's what I've got:

1) Hermione was rather quick to get off the topic of Harry kissing Cho. She was speaking "briskly", as if wanting to end the conversation. It was clear she wasn't comfortable.

2) Since when has Ginny taken Hermione's place in the Trio? Smart, pretty, funny, fun - who does that sound like to you? whistling.gif

3) Hermione always has Harry's back. She taught him the Summoning Charm when he was desperate, even staying up all night to help. She was the one who went back in time with Harry - not Ron. She stood by him when Rita Skeeter slandered their names, and helped him stay strong. She was determined to go with him when they rescued the Stone. There is more, of course, but that would take up gigabytes of space. biggrin.gif But the point is, Ginny's never been there for Harry. She's been too busy "playing the field" to provide support of any kind.

4) I know this one's been said all over this topic, but Harry/Ginny was short, undeveloped, and rather cold. All they did was snog, and isn't that what Ginny did with her other boyfriends [whom she never stayed long with]? And if their love is meant to last eternally (insert gags at will), why did it seem like JKR was trying to make us hate it?

5) R/Hr, sexual tension? What with all the hand-grabbing, worrying, and being in close proximity under the Invisibility Cloak, I'd say Harry and Hermione have more than their fair share. thumbup.gif

6) R/Hr was never officially announced. All the jealousy, public snogging (not with each other, thank God!!), attacks of mad canaries, and twice as much arguing as usual ended in them both crying together. Really stable grounds for a lifemating situation. It just screams meant-to-be. *gag*

7) Where was the foreshadowing for all this? It's like we don't know the characters we've come to know, love, and admire! I argue with my guy friends all the time but it doesn't mean we have unresolved sexual tension. And how many people never notice the existence of the person destined to be their significant other for six years, especially if their supposed eternal love is the little sister of their best friend?

8) Harry is not the type of person to want someone with a history of instability, little distinguishing personality, and only good looks to her name. Wouldn't you think he'd want definite support with all the bad stuff in his life already? And who's always been there for him? Hermione. rolleyes.gif

9) Hermione is a more likely target than Ginny (she's smart, very close to Harry, more likely to find the cleverly hidden Horcruxes than anyone, and he would be terribly devastated if she was lost), so why shouldn't Ginny come along to hunt for Horcruxes? It's the perfect setup for Harry to forget Ginny and find comfort in Hermione. JKR does not take good care of her "good" ships - she allows them to become rusty and ill-used. Way to foster love, care, and romance!

10) Hermione Potter sounds a hell of a lot better, doesn't it? Hermione Weasley...no offense really, but it makes Hermione sound like a weasel. innocent.gif
miz_delusional

miz_delusional, I think that the true story in your signature should be a reason on your list! "Why Ron??" That's exactly what I thought when I began reading HBP!

And OMG, I thought I was the only who noticed too! happy.gif
lovesharry
Why Ron indeed?!!!

What is it about Ron that could possibly have Hermione wanting him as a boyfriend? Ron treats her like dirt. She, being the way she is, dishes back the same garbage. And this is suppose to be love? Why would JKR think that by portraying them like this is akin to liking one another? Why would she think that this could remotely lead to romance? Did she, herself, find true love this way? I doubt it very much!

HBP is the book that Herons see their ship as essentially finalized. I can't help but go back to the question, "Why Ron?" Why Ron, when it could and should be Harry. If Rowling wanted R/Hr and H/G in the final book, then why didn't she just put us Harmonians out of our misery? I say that it is because she really does have other plans for our Trio in the final book. She will knock the wind out of the (Heron's) sails in book 7!

Am I ranting.gif?

Ok, I'll just close for now, but I will leave you all with this:

H/Hr forever! wub.gif
miz_delusional
I'm still trying to figure it out...ron? ron? ron? What was JKR really thinking when she thought about a guy for Hermione? WHY HIM?!

My head is hurting me now. huh.gif

The hour after I had finished reading HBP, my entire mind was centered on Why ron? Why ginny? wassat.gif

True love for Hermione is NOT RON! It doesn't make any sense! In all my years of being a romantic, I've never seen anything as baffling as this! (i sound old, don't I?laugh.gif) And I had an hour long argument with my friend who is a heron shipper argue.gif and I gave her so many points on why harmony is right that she was amazed by it.

All she could say, was because their love life is exciting...WHAT LOVE LIFE?! They argue. I love luv\hate relationships like bunnies but how is that even near luv\hate?! It pains my heart when someone tries to portray luv\hate relationships and end up making it into a complete disaster!

Did she, herself, find true love this way? I doubt it very much!

If you've read about Jo's life you'll know that her first marriage was very unhappy and she was treated like dirt, exactly the way Ron treats Hermione. She ended up fleeing from that marriage (in Portugal) and has now met and married a man with whom she appears to be blissfully in love, and who has more than a passing resemblance to a certain young fictional wizard, minus the scar and without red hair.

Which seems to be foreshadowing a case of art imitating life, except that this all happened long after the basic HP story was conceived in Jo's head; in fact by the time she married Neil Murray, four books had been published.

OTOH, there have allegedly been bits of the story which have some biographical basis, so who knows? I wouldn't suggest this is a sign of anything, but it's just possible (remotely, I'd say) that Jo might tell the story of Hermione being with Ron and then leaving him for happiness in Harry's arms by paralleling it with her own life experience.

Anyway, the point is, no, clearly Jo did not find true love that way (ie, in a mutually abusive relationship).
