Has anyone ever seen the movie 'Far and Away' starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman? Probably ove of the best romances I've ever seen. This is pretty much how I picture D/G interaction laugh.gif The main character, Shannon (played by Nicole Kidman) is Ginny, I swear! First of all, the curly red hair biggrin.gif and the personality, really spunky, prideful, has a slight temper etc. Plus, she's a 'daddy's little girl' type since she's an only child. I allways pictured Molly and Arthur to baby Ginny a bit like Shannon's parents did since Ginny's the youngest child and the only girl. Joseph (Tom Cruise) is kind of too nice to be Draco tongue.gif but there are similarities. Like there are parts where he can be a bit sarcastic, he goes to great lengths to get what he wants and of course he also has a lot of pride in his family. Joseph and Shannon fight a lot, but you can really tell that they only do it because they worry for eachother and love eachother. Even though Joseph can be a bit sarcastic and mocks Shannon alot, he automatically goes into kickass mode when someone (other than himself) misstreats er in any way. Not to mention the different social backgrounds (except the roles have switched, the girl is the super rich one while he boy is the poor one)

That's all I can think of right now... Well, there's also Edge/Rydia from the video game Final Fantasy IV but I'll post about that some other time...

How about in The mExican starred by Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts? If I'm not mistaken Julia there is a redhead with brown eyes and a pack of full-blown temper. While Brad is obviously blonde and cute...

I think about "Inventing the Abbotts" with Liv Tyler and Joaquin Phoenix, two families who don't like each other because of something that happend in the past.

Cursed4Life
I'd say that Titanic would, but I bet someone has already mentioned that, so my other one would be Cruel Intentions. It's like the perfect plot and the characters are all related to the HP ones:

Sebastian - Draco (obviously)
Annet (sp?) - Ginny (obviously)
Kathryn - Pansy
Blaine - Blaise
The other gay guy - Harry (lol!)
Musician guy - Dean
Cecile - Haven't thought of who she is...

You get the point lol. biggrin.gif

Yeah, Crystal and I talked about how this movie is perfect in the last thread I think. I think it's my favorite D/G-esque romance in another movie/book.

This is a stretch, but we're doing the play "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at my school, and in it, Hermia and Lysander cannot be together because Hermia's father demands she marries Demetrius so they plan on running away together... the forbidden love reminds me of D/G every time we run that scene.

[I'm Helena though, so I don't get to pretend to be Ginny or anything. tongue.gif ]

Cruel Intentions-definetly and absolutely.

Well,if this has been mentioned shoot me.I thought that Ash Redfern and Mary-Lynette Carter from the Nightworld series could fit.
Ash is sarcastic, blonde and arrogant like Draco while Mary-Lynette is the opposite -typical human teenage girl who can put up a fight. They hate each other at first and Mary-Lynette sees her ideal man in another guy who is opposite of Ash.They slowly fall for each other-still denying it.Mary-Lynette is scared and pushes Ash away to be "redeemed" and "do good".
The characters coming from different worlds, being different in character (Ash is a vampire) and Ash's family dissapproving of Mary-Lynette reminds me a lot of D/G.

Ahh...no. It was the one where Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman are both from Ireland and they run off to America to get their hands on some land. Tom is a farmer and Nicole is the landlords daughter. Seen it? It's very good biggrin.gif Oh, and Nicole Kidman's parents in that movie act alot like Arthur and Molly do... XD;;

And they both have terribly amusing accents? Ah, I think I caught a glimpsse of that one, once. Very amusing, indeed.

I don't know about anyone else, but I've always thought that Draco and Ginny were faintly like Darcy and Elizabeth in Pride and Prejudice. Though, this could just be due to my love of the book (and of Darcy, but that's a different story) and the fact that I like to try and make it fit wherever possible. I actually thought of doing a P&P version of D/G, but I got too overwhelmed with other work.

Basically, I think that wherever there is forbidden love, you can put a D/G romance into it. Forbidden love is so universal nowadays.... rolleyes.gif

I think "Dirty Dancing" because the "good girl" falls for the "bad boy" and the bad boy is pressured into doing a job he doesn't want to do by his family and the good girl is frowned upon my her mother and father beacuse of her choice in men.

plus johnny has a good butt, and chest. and the sound track fits D/G.

Hi everyone ^^.

Well there's a lot of books/movie or anime that make me think of Draco and Ginny.

First of all there's a very beautiful french book called Le Silence de la Mer de Jean Pierre Melville.
It's during the second world war and the deutch occupation. There's this german soldier who moves in the house of an old french man and his young daughter. And, despite of being on opposites clans, despite of the war, despite of everything, they slowly fall in love. But she will never speack to him (that's whyt the title is including the word "silence"). Because she knows that it can't be.
This is one of the most beautiful story I've ever read. I don't know if it had been translated in english or not.

Second, I always think of Draco and Ginny when I watch the third season of Slayers (Slayers rox!!! thumbup.gif ).
Draco/Xellos obviously ^^. As for me you can't change someone as much. Xellos is always a mazoku but he's still pretty cool despite of that fact cool.gif .
And Ginny/Filia. She's obviously on the "right" side, fighting for the peace of the world and everything but the only one who can drive her crazy is the mazoku ^^. They are just hilarious together. Hating and loving each other in the same time (my avatar is them actually biggrin.gif ).

Hey!! I totally agree with you, whenever i re-read P&P i think it would be great as a D/G story wub.gif

I'm in that play! I think of Lysander as Draco, Helena is Hermione, Hermia is Ginny, Demetrius is Harry. Although they fall for the wrong people because of Puck's stupid mistakes. But think of it, Draco and Ginny love eachother, Harry likes Ginny, and Hermione likes Harry! Well, Hermione likes Harry! And that's all we care about, right?

(Hehe, I'm Hermia's Father and Snout, or Wall. Hermia, Lysander, Helena and Demetrius arlike a foot taller than me. Theseus is like three feet taller than me! XD)

As everyone knows, the words ROMEO and JULIET get thrown around the DG forum like popcorn seeds in a fire. I've been thinking about it for sometime and well, the comparison has gotten so overused that it's lost all meaning.

If all of you are with me, I give you a challenge. Find any fictional or real live relationship that can be compared to our very own Draco Malfoy and Ginny Weasley other than that of a Shakespearian Nature.

Luv,
Karly

The ones that come to my mind are:

Achilles/Briseis from Troy
Sebastian/Annette from Cruel Intentions
(Both from movies)

These are more debatable:

Noah/Allie from The Notebook (Except that she's the rich half and neither possess a Draco-like quality...but he's blonde and she's a redhead in appearance, so...close enough? ^^;; )

Ryan/Marissa from The O.C. (Again, she's the rich half. Ryan definitely retains a personality similar to Draco at times, though)

I'm sure there are plenty more...maybe I'll discover them later smile.gif

The Hatfields and the McCoys were a real feuding family, and Johnse Hatfield and Rose McCoy had a forbidden romance:

QUOTE
Johnse is said to have been the most likable of the Hatfields; he was also a stylish dresser, popular with the girls. That day he encountered Rose Anna McCoy, Ran'l's daughter. Photographs show her to have been a tall, slender woman with long, wavy black hair. Johnse, immediately captivated, offered Rose Anna a handful of gingerbread and began to chat with her as if there was no animosity between their families. In the relaxed carnival atmosphere of that election day Johnse and Rose Anna fell in love.

Of course, it didn't last and it ticked everybody off even further, but hey, it is a nice feud/love comparison that actually happened.

There's also Landon/Jamie in --> A Walk To Remember

And I KNOW there are more but I cant think of any right now.

I'll be back.

If he had the sence NOT to knock her up and then leave her...the feud wouldn't have lasted so long.
I wonder if they are still fighting...if there is a Hatfield and Macoy legacy left.
That'd be funny.
They'd just wake up and be like "I hate them because I've been told all my life to hate them..."
It was probably over a pig.
Okay...that was TOTALLY off topic.

I agreed on that, especially in how Noah and Allie fight all the time, but are still totally in love, I always though D/G would be like that if they were together.

I don't know if anyone else will see this, but when I watched Macbeth recently, it almost made me think of D/G.

I have been keen on the idea lately of Evil!Ginny being the one to bring Draco over to the dark side. (Yay Liz.) Well, in Macbeth, Lady Macbeth is the one to encourage Macbeth to do all of the horrible things he does, and even though they don't bicker and fight like D/G, or start out hating eachother, their relationship seems to me like one that D and G might share.

I can see their utmost goal reaching the top, and Draco wimping out because he doesn't want to kill anyone, but slowly getting weaker as Ginny demands him to do so by calling him a woman and whatnot.

I dunno, just a thought.

Mod Note: Merged with "Couples that remind you of DG." --Crystal/InTheStars, 6August2005

*Note to Mods: Please let me know if there is already a topic like this

I was just thinking about what couples remind me of D/G, and so far, I only have one.

You'd probably have to be Canadian to understand what I'm talking about, but over here, we have a teen series called 15/Love about a group of students at a tennis academy. I "militantly" shipped Squib and Cody. Not only did they match the character descriptions, (Squib with light blonde hair just like Malfoy's and Cody with red hair) but their relationship echoed D/G's potential one perfectly.

When they first met, Squib was completely horrible to Cody just because she wasn't in the tennis program (she lived with her dad, the guidance counceler, at the school and was the resident photographer) but eventually, they became friends, which reminded me a bit about H/Hr, too. They constantly denied harbouring any sort of attraction to each other throughout the series, but had a few romantic incidents here and there. It was dead cute until the last episode.

Cody got a place at an art school in New York, and had to leave immediately. Squib was participating in a huge tennis tournament as "Buzzsaw" after getting expelled from the school (sounds like something that would happen to Malfoy, eh?). Word got around to him, and he decided to give up winning the tournament (which he would have done) to go to the bus station and find Cody. Cody gets on the bus and about two minutes into the trip, Squib shows up *squee!* wub.gif And they go to live in New York together. It was dead romantic.

So...which couples remind you guys of D/G?

Han/Leia from Star Wars: Both from different backgrounds. Argue a lot at first, but discover that they love each other and have more in common than they thought.

I have to go, so I'll come back with more later.
Dice
Kelley/Sam - Here On Earth. Kelley is rich, a complete snob, has some major problems with his father (even calls him "sir"...) and occasionally has his hair slicked back. He goes to the best school that money can buy. This school (a boarding one) is not too far from a country town. And there we meet Sam, a girl who though isn't completely in poverty, doesn't lead a lavish life. She had a long-time boyfriend, Jasper.

Kelley and his friends are completely hated by the town, Sam's family and group of friends in particular. Kelley pretty much hates them too, thinking that because he has more money, he is therefore better. Kelley and Sam meet when Kelley and his friends go for a joyride in his new car, and end up at Sam's family restaurant. He picks a fight with Jasper, and the two race each other, and end up crashing their cars into the restaurant, setting it on fire. Because of this, Kelley is ordered by the court to help rebuld it along with Jasper. Sam and Kelley then fall in love, of course.

But not only does the plot and characters remind me of Draco/Ginny, but the setting in the movie too. The movie is set in Minnesota (I think...), and the setting is just simply beautiful, and everyone knows that no Draco/Ginny fic is complete without a beautiful setting.
Dice
Sark/Sydney from Alias, once they get together, of course! C'mon, it has to happen...

Anyway, Sark works for the bad guys, is sarcastic and has dry humour. Sydney works for the good guys, and has quite a temper. Honestly, these two NEED to get together!
Lady Eros
Neji/Hinata from Naruto. Well the personalites are not very alike, but the themes are similar. The main thing is where they have the same tone and concept of the forbidden. They both start of as dark-ships which made it's way into fanon stardom.

Orochimaru and Voldemort issue, but that's another theory for another time.
american girl
Jackie/Hyde from the That '70s Show
i also wouldn't say that Ginny & Jackie are a like, niether are Draco & Hyde all that much (well maybe a little)
but Jackie & Hyde's relationship really reminds me of Draco & Ginny's.
they're complete opisites and you would never expect them to get together, because they hated each other, but when they are together -sure it's weird and disdurbing to their friends at first, plus add in the fact that they can't keep their hands off each other which is pretty weird, but once you add in actual feelings and not just snogging you see that they're completly right for one another!
here are some great quotes between Hyde & Jackie that i can totally see Draco & Ginny saying to each other.
~
Hyde: You know what your problem is? You're really cute, but nobody ever told you to shut your piehole.
Jackie You think I'm cute?
Hyde: SHUT YOUR PIEHOLE!!
----
Jackie: Maybe I do have feelings for Michael, but what am I supposed to do? He WAS my first boyfriend. And you know what? You're going to have to learn to deal with it, and if you can't, and you're going to have to break up with me because of it, I can't stop you. But I think it's a real waste because I love you.
Hyde: [long pause] I'm not saying it back.
(in this case you could replace the name Micheal with Harry)
----
Hyde: So you wanna be a burn-out? Is that it?
Jackie: No. No, Hyde. I just wanna be with you. I think you are one of the coolest and sweetest guys.
Hyde: No you don't.
Jackie: Yes I do.
----
Jackie: Steven, do I really sicken you?
Hyde: No. I sicken me because I'm supposed to be sicken by you but I'm not.
Jackie: Me too! I mean, I like you being all scruffy and all.
~
well i might of got a little carried away with the quotes! (i got them from here: http://www.haru-haru.com/opposites/quotes.php)
but this couple really reminds me of Draco/Ginny!

Omg a LOST parallel. I love you. wub.gif Wheee.
That actually kind of gives me plot bunnies.....

But that being said, I would have to say I see Kate/Sawyer as more of a D/G type couple. Both having a messy past, Sawyer being the resident bad guy and Kate not sure if she loves him or Jack (Harry?).

How about Quark/Odo? Slash, yes, but definately a similarly antagonistic relationship. I don't actually ship them, but I've read good fics. They come at things completely differently the way that Draco and Ginny do. Sometimes, though, they show that they actually like each other (as friends only, really, but could be more).

Daniel/Vala from Stargate SG1. They aren't similar in terms of character, because Vala is like a combination of the two and Daniel is like none of them. There are similaritites in the relationship, though. They at first come at things from a very different point of view. Gradually they both change, though she more than he, and become friends. There is still tension between them though, and there is a whole lot of flirting.
Eventually they get together, though time issues cause them not to know it.
