Wow, long time since I posted here! *eyes travles to her old crashed computer* Anyway ...

I was wondering what all you DG'ers think is the perfect DG fanfiction in your mind? Is it full of angst, drama or do you want to laugh untill you can't take it anymore and noticed you had peed your pants?

Or do you just want a deep romance that will take two full days to read the entire story?

Just a plain sappy and fluffy one-shot maybe, or a DG romance triangle will do the trick.

But an evil Ginny and goody-two-shoes Draco will make an unique story ... what's your idea of a perfect DG fanfiction?

Personally, I love any well written d/g fic which has a decent plot.

I used to like angst fics a lot a year ago, but right now I think the perfect fic is a short, humourous and fluffy fic ^^

The kind which starts with a heated argument and ends with fulffiness biggrin.gif

Okay, I love any D/G well-written with good, original plot. However, I do have perfect D/G, which I have given way too much thought.

The Perfect Draco and Ginny Story:

The story begins on a regular afternoon. Ginny has graduated from Hogwarts over seven years ago. She has a successful job in the fashion industry. Her long time live-in boyfriend and/or husband, Draco, has his own successful business/Ministry job. Though the story is post-Hogwarts, there are several flashbacks to the final years at Hogwarts, including the beginning of D/G and the War, which the good side won, of course. Back to the present. Or is it future? Harry is with Hermione, Ron with Lavender or some OC. I'm not particular. Anyway, while Ginny gets along with everyone and D/G does spend a lot of time with the Weasleys, Draco still isn't Harry's best friend. Draco tolerates everyone and they tolerate him, for Ginny's sake. However, Draco does get along fairly well. In this perfect story, there is a little thing that most fics forget about-PLOT! Yes, there will be plenty of fluff and melodrama. Yes, tension between Hermione and Ginny, Draco and everyone. But, more importantly there will be HP-related plot. Maybe a Death Eater tries to finish Voldemort's work. Maybe Voldemort returns. Maybe another Dark Wizard tries to take over the world. Or maybe the Apacolypse takes place, Buffy style. Draco and GInny probably aren't going to be the big heros-that's Harry. But they will help. So far, the closest thing I've got is Ebony's Paradise Series. Oh well. Maybe someday...

My idea of the perfect DG fanfic is one where both characters undergo a change not in personality but of heart...

No OTHER characters should be largely OOC, there are no cliched forms of FORCING D and G together, and it's not rushed.

It's a bit angstful, but satisfyingly fluffy as well.

It should make you laugh AND cry.

Neither of them turn to each other for some REASON such as a dare, revenge, or proof of self. They fall in love because they want to, if only subconciously at first.

The perfect DG fanfic is rare.

I felt oddly compelled to answer this....Wow...I've, like, moved twice since I last posted. XD Anyway, I'm sorting my opinions as I go, so forgive any sudden changes in topic...

Let's see...I love couples like this because the conflict makes it so much more interesting. My favorite genre of all time in any situation is Romance/Comedy(My friends find that funny...). I like multi-chaptered fics because it's more time for humor and romance and plot, of course. Though there's nothing wrong with the occasional fluffy, funny one-shot to print out and read when I should be doing other things. I hate fics that start off describing a character as 'well muscled and handsome' or anything like that. I don't know why, but it bugs me. Not to mention those are usually indicators of a bad story. I'm personally partial to Ginny be portrayed as a fiery, tempermental, average looking girl. Draco, of course, should be his normal, smirky, egotistical, bugged-because-Ginny-doesn't-submit-to-him self. Another thing that bugs me is constant, detailed kissing. Can't they just say they kissed? I mean, jeez...-cough- I also hate when fics show the characters on dates. That makes me almost always close the window and stop reading, even if they're well-written. Just a pet peeve of mine I guess. I like when they discover their feelings, admit it, then cut to a married life epilouge and. Oh! And I absolutely love family interrigation and recation sessions. They're so funny!
Favorite character development: Enemies -> Grudging Acceptence -> Rival-Like Friends(Can be skipped, I suppose.) -> Lovers

...Hm...I guess that's it...This kinda turned into a rant, didn't it? Ah well...-shrug-

This put a very lovey smile on my face.

I agree with you, Tina. It's that kind of fic that leaves you more than satisfied in the end, because you know it was of their own free will and thought, and free will and thought is a large basis in the D/G ship.

I agree with Tina & Crystal, as usual. tongue.gif

I think what I look for in DG is what I look for in all fanfiction. A believable, interesting plot that portrays an actual obstacle. I hate reading fics or books where the characters are stressing way out or bumbling around over something that in reality could really be solved by someone being honest and straightforward.

I don't really need too much adventure, or even very much outward action at all. I like introspective stories, stories where the characters struggle more with themselves than they do with others.

But most of all I think the perfect fanfic must have balance, which means not all fluff and humor and not all angst and drama. It has to be realistic in this sense, because nobody's life is always humor and nobody's life is always pain and sorrow. Life is a perfect, bittersweet marriage of both.

But specifically, when it comes to DG, I'd have to say if we're looking for something 'perfect', characterization is massively important. Draco and Ginny are complex, minor characters that although we don't know very much about, we see how they act. And when Draco is spouting poetry or they're grinding at a Muggle nightclub or Ginny is slutting it up with every boy in Hogwarts, you've got, in my opinion, the biggest flaw in fanfiction.

It is rare. I don't know if I've ever even seen it.

House Unity: Lessons is very close to one of the rare. smile.gif --Crys

I daresay that that story is one of those rare fics ~Ri

One that includes all of my favorite ships:

1. Draco/Ginny
2. Blaise/Parvati
3. Ron/Luna
4. Neville/Pansy
5. Hermione/Harry
6. Dean/Lavender

I'm perfectly normal, I swear! Hehe! But then again, I like the triangle Draco/Ginny/Miss Piggy.... Okay, I'll call the insane asylam (sp?)

Oddly enough, that describe the fics I love perfectly. There's enough drama in life that when I read, I want something different than the normal occurances.

I also love it when these fics have epilogues. I hate when the end leaves you wondering, what's next? I want to know where the author sees them going. I guess it's because I like closure. When the fic is ended well, then there isn't an epilogue needed, but sometimes I love a story and then it just stops, and I'm left hating the story going, "What the heck just happened!?" wassat.gif

Alright. I'll shutup.gif (shut up) now.

Yeah, sometimes I don't read the end of a fic at all, because I'm afraid of what will happen (will they die? break apart? ect.).

My idea of the perfect DG fanfiction must be one-of-a-kind. Characters must be in character, there has to be a real intruging plot and lots of humor rolleyes.gif

I hate it when they change Draco or Ginny, by appearance. It's like reading two new characters, what really disturbs me. So Draco has to be the ugly git (drooling ugly git mind you) and Ginny will have her flaming red hair.

Yes, it is rare. I have never found a DG fic that perfect, I guess it doesn't excist ...

I absolutely agree with everything Crys, Tina and vanillapuf said about rare and good fics.

I'm exactly the opposite. Although I do read epilogues, I have issues with them. I am a sucker for open endings. They add some spice to the story, IMO.

Something like that only happened to me once. It was when reading Anise's "Jewel of the Harem" - I got to chapter 13 and then broke down because I couldn't take the tension anymore, which is kinda sad, because it's one hell of a story. Read it, if your nerves are better than mine.

My own take on a perfect D/G fic: Draco is an asshole in the beginning, which does not change throughout the whole story. Ginny is not some perfect woman, she does not have the utterly delectable body, and she is not some kind of vamp. She may have spunk, but not more.

What else? I like humour fics, but please, no slapstick. Also, I probably define humour differently than most of you. When I crack a joke, little kids usually start to cry. I love the dark, black and cruel kind of humour, so, what I would call a perfect humour fic is probably an uber-angsty fic with cynical or sarcastic comments strewn in.

Yeah, I love angst. I like for Draco and Ginny to end up together in the end, but not necessarily in the "and they lived happily ever after" kind of way. I need drama, and I thrive on conflict, preferably one that takes place in the inside, and not on the outside. What I mean is that I'd rather have Draco or Ginny fighting with themselves and their views and beliefs than with, say, Voldemort or Ron.

I think the perfect D/G fic should be a funny romance. I think they should be after-Hogwarts or during-school-holidays-fics, cause it's hard for me to think of a way for them to start their relationship in school. (But I would be happy if someone recomended good believable during-Hogwarts fic to me).

For me Draco should be in a better position than Ginny, but Ginny should't be weak or helpless. And as they are wizards they should act like wizards not doing too much Muggle-stuff.

I don't like epilogues either and the story must have plenty of action in it rather than discribing every second leaf on a tree or circulating too much around thoughts.

I kind of like the "Draco as teacher in Hogwarts Ginny his student"- idea, though I never finished reading one of them (because the authors didn't finish them). Here too- if someone knows a good -finished- Draco-the-teacher-fic, please tell me.

I always thought of writing your own fanfiction as the way to write the fiction you'd like to read. thumbup.gif

I like most D/G fics I've read. Some of them go a bit too detailed in the kissing parts for me and it puts me off but most are great.

I'm not picky about it. I love the dramatic ones but also love the fluffy humourous ones. My perfect D/G fic would be humour, fluffiness, drama, and basically everything mixed into one. D/G are just so absorbing to read about that I never mind what I read.

Well post-HBP I'm picturing D/G in Bk.7. Ginny and Draco go Horcrux hunting with Harry and fall passionately in love. wub.gif Details are hazy but I'm actually in the process of writing a H/Hr and D/G fic focusing on Bk.7 and the Hunt for the Horcruxes. Beside that I can see them after school and everything meeting in a bar.tongue.gif

P.S. HI!! This is my first post. :waves:

I completely agree, not everyone has the same opinions as me on D/G and what there relationship would be like, so I think it's better to write your own. That way you can have the relationship they way you like instead of praying the author does all the things you could write.
