i think it should be something cheesy because the only time i can ever write anything for my L/J fic is when I'm eating something with cheese in it....usually pizza or au gratin potatoes...but maybe that's just me...


hummmmm, well, i asked my mom and she said popular foods in the 70's were like fondue ( dipping a peice of fruit into chocolate and then eating it, i think ) and crepes (thin pancakey things that are really good) were big.


but personally i think we should go for chocolate ice cream : a classic

Hmm...*thinks* I like cheesecake, actually, but it's a bit too much like pumpkin pie. Maybe just a fruit? An apple? Very symbolic of creation, you know, and when it all comes down to it L/J was what started the whole Harry phenomena.

just an apple in itself wouldn't make sense, at least to me. so if we went that direction we would have to do like apple pie or apple fritter or something like that, but it's something to think on...


i like the chocolate ice cream idea, myself, not just because it was my idea either, but because chocolate ice cream is like a universal favorite ice cream flavor for almost everyone and that's pretty cool.

and i love cheesecake :-D chocolate cheesecake...heck, i just love chocolate period.

Okay I think the strawberry Idea was pretty cool but I don't think a strawberry just on it's own would make sense.

I like chesecake too but I kindda don't get how it relates to Lily and James.

I also think the apple ideaa is a good one we could have apple pie and it'd kindda be like the parents of pumpkin pie.

Apple pie sounds like a fine idea. Nice complement to pumpkin pie, you know. A very wholesome choice.

All right, if apple pie - and all sorts of pies - are out, we should think of other types of desserts. How about we steer away from cakes, tarts and so forth, because they're all much like pies.

Here are my thoughts:

What about just chocolate? There's so many different varieties of chocolate - we'd certainly be catering to almost everyone with that.

Or jelly? Not sure how we'd serve that, though.

Thinking along the lines of icecream, we could pick a flavour that everybody likes. Or simply just call it "icecream". The D/Gs all serve muffins, but it's not a specific type of muffin.

Then again, we should probably have some link back to Lily and James when we think about this, because it's sort of pointless having a dessert that means nothing about them.

Personally, i think we should go with Chocolate Ice Cream, because Lily and James are just that, a classic. Although, isn't vanilla the actual classic flavor that's been made forever? That just came to me as I was typing this.

But either was I like the idea of some kind of ice cream.

Just a thought: the reason the "HMS Pumpkin Pie" came to be is because of a story that had Harry and Hermione kiss in the Astronomy tower after eating pumpkin pie. Herminone, at the end of the story, said "You taste like pumpkin pie."

If we could find a semi-well-known L/J story that has a food in it, we could use that food. To me, it makes more sense than just randomly choosing a food.

(To be fair, I don't like the ship name that Fiction Alley Park has for the L/J ship: Thorn and Buck. What?!?!?!!? I think it might just be that L/J is hard to find a name for.)

That being said, if we don't want to find a story, we could at least find a food that is more like L/J. For some odd reason, baked alaska comes to mind . . . Flame wars to begin with, but it leaves something sweet afterwards: fluffy on the outside and hard on the inside.

And now you have my 2 cents :-P

not any L/J fic that isn't horribly cliche, which rules out 99.999999% of them.

i've never had baked alaska before but i've heard of trhem, those sound cool. bit obscure, though, someone might not know what it is..we want a well-known food, i think

Hmm yeah it'd be good if we could pick a food that would make sense but I think most of the foods only make sense to the shippers. I mean I don't really get how muffins relates to D/G though I also don't really get how Pumpkin Pie relates to H/Hr. Maybe I just don't get the foods.

I voted Strawberries... I mean. Red. Like Lily's hair. Sweet and juicy.... OK. Don't mind me. I say strawberries are perfect, but I'll gop with the flow if something else is chosen.

Wait, how about we drop the chocolate idea. I know I suggested it in the first place, but I forgot about the H/Gers. They've already claimed chocolate because of the scene in the library (OotP).

*waves hand* If just fruit is allowed, can we please have apples in the vote as well? It's okay if we don't, but I think apples could relate nicely to L/J.

Interesting ideas... Yeah, we forgot about the H/G shippers and chocolate... To generalise it down, I think we should make a poll of Five choices... I don't know. Whatever it is, just ask me or Gems and we'll do it.

Also, perhaps the title L/J Food doesn't call too much... Mmm...

i think it's fine with just four if that's all that we think is good. though it won't help if all of us want a different one as only like 5 of us are actually discussing this.

The problem is that there really aren't very well-known L/J fics, are there? The food is going to seem just as random, anyway. Nobody is going to know, because L/J isn't a very popular ship, no? Most of the pumpkineers have read Narri's fic, or at least know about it, but I doubt that there are that many L/Jers, anyway.

*is being confusing* Heck, I'll shut up right now. I'll help in the fic hunt, if that's what everyone wants.

umm...honestly, we could just write one ourselves and problem solved...yeah?

we can all write our own little one-shot ficlet on the food we want for L/J and then choose the one we like the most...how does that sound?

Um about having a story behind it. Well as most have said there aren't really many well known ones as L/J isn't as popular as the other ships. We could write a story about it but I don't think it would work as well because your just writing the story for the food not the L/J type stuff. There are a lot of ficlets that are based arround chocolate but that's already been taken. Yeah I don't know what we can do. We can always not have one or leave it till later to actually chose one.

That's correct... so either we write one, or we find one, or we cast a challenge for someone more talented than me to write a fic/ficlet something... but personally i'm against this one. If a fic with food has to be written it has to be natural, not 'forced', so to speak...

Anto - exactly I don't like the idea of making someone write the story just for the sake of us having a story behind it. That's just the same as us picking a random food.

BTW does anyone know how the ship names came about because I don't see how thorn and buck has much to do with L/J. If they were just picked at random then I don't see much difference with the food choice then.

dang, if i'd known my suggestion with the fic-food would take off so quickly, i would have written down all the L/J fics i've found recently with food themes in them. I feel like an idiot now. :-P If i just look around, maybe I'll find them again?

I was just thinking, though the SHoebox Project isn't really completely focused on L/J, it is a rather famous MWPP fic, and if we can find a L/J food in there. . .

Well, the only slightly L/J food i could find in the Shobox Project was a marshmellow . . . and the context isn't that great.

erm...sorry to say but when people ask why we would have chosen marshmellows as L/J ship food, i'm not sure i want to explain about a line about being "raped by a marshmellow" no offence or anything, it's a rather cute line, but i think we need something that happens in an actual fluffy L/J moment and not just a random comment...am i making sense?
i've been reading but i haven't found anything yet....anyone else have luck?
