RIght know, the couple that reminds me most of Harry and Hermione is from a new anime series, called "Tsubasa Chronicle".  It's Sakura and Syaoran.  For those of you that have seen Cardcaptor Sakura, in Tsubasa Chronicles we see many of the characters that appeared in CCS, although somewhat different.
*

I think H/Hr fit Sa/Sy in CCS, too. Syaoran was always protecting Sakura in CCS. wub.gif

Darien and Serena from Sailor Moon, definitly. *loveloveloves that pairing*

It's Mamoru and Usagi!! Mamoru and Usagi!! *is rabid fangirl who hates the DiC dub*

*coughs a bit*

Ok, I have a couple:

Danny/Sam: Danny Phantom sorcerer.gif

haha, sorry. I've been attempting to train myself to get rid of the dub names---but I grew up with them. sad.gif I've recently been downloading the S series in Japenese, and reading fics, and yeah. D: /rambling

... I can sort of see that except that Sakura is out of the picture for most of the first few books (manga) while Hermione is in the lime light early.

Couples that remind me of H/Hr.... hmmm........

Shinji/Rei from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Read my super long post (when the mods put it up) for more.
Tai/Sora from Digimon (... can't really explain this one)

Cory/Topenga from Boy Meets World
Tommy/Lil from Rugrats

Luke/Lorelai from Gilmore Girls
Padme/Anakin from Star Wars
Luke/Mara Jade from Star Wars EU (Timothy Zahn is the best EU author ever.  wub.gif )

Haha, ohmygosh, I thought I was the only one that thought Lil and Tommy would be perfect for each other! Sorry, temporary childhood flashback. Anyway, yeah I agree with most of those...especially the Tommy/Lil and Cory and Topanga.

How about Rick Hunter and Lisa Hayes from Robotech/Macross? Hell, They even look like Harry and Hermione. This is all the more true considering Harry's mixed feelings towards Hermione and Ginny, very easily reminiscent of those that Rick had for Lisa and Minmei. Of course in the series, Rick eventually married Lisa Hayes over Minmei. Much like the decision Harry has to make. Besides, both lost a brother/father figure, (Roy Fokkher for Rick and Sirius for Harry), and they both have the grandfatherly leader (Gloval and Dumbledore) I mean it literally could be a metaphor for the whole series. It seemes like J.K. must have been inspired by the series.
simplemagic
neo and trinity definitely!

both are equal partners. at first, it was trinity that was way better than neo just like hermione is to harry. then neo becomes better than trinity, just as harry is to hermione.because both harry and neo are the chosen one. but both teams work very well together and compliment each other's abilities.

trinity has saved neo a lot of times just as neo saved trinity a lot of times too.And it's the same with harry and hermione.

One couple that H/HR remind me of is Buffy/Xander from BTVS. Buffy and Harry have that whole chosen, not able to choose thing going for them; and Xander and Hermione are the two most loyal characters I've seen.

Yeah a buffy comparison,I'm going to say i think of HHR when i watch Buffy and Spike the fact that they are growing and becoming more accustom to one another, plus its so beauitful what they do for each other and the ending really showed the how and why spike changed for buffy.

QUOTE(blueangel @ Sep 6 2004, 02:47 AM)
To Lorie_Strode: You're right about Buffy/Xander in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I saw them very well together, although I was as well a Buffy/Angel shipper (though I don't want to compare Buffy/Angel to H/Hr).
About the character of Angel, there's a situation who reminds me of H/Hr in Angel's own series. In Season 3, there are growing feelings of love between Angel and his long time assistant and friend Cordelia, that reminds me a lot of certain things I've read about H/Hr. At first and during almost all the seasons, everybody talk to them about how much they love each other, and both Angel and Cordelia protest that they are just friends, just as Harry and Hermione do all the time; Angel and Cordelia's feeling are there but unconscious and it take time to them to realise what they really feel for each other. Cordelia even dates a guy, and he leaves her because she's constantly talking about Angel, worrying about Angel and obviously thinking about Angel. Finally in the last episode they really understand what's going on... My comparison, I hope, stops there, because in a series written by Joss Whedon (like "Angel"), whenever two people are about to be happy together, very bad things happen, and that was the case for Angel and Cordelia. So I hope better for Harry/Hermione.
*

Ive not seen the Angel/Cordelia ship but i know it exists because a large number of fans wanted it to happen so...it did!!!

But ive always thought A/C would be cute, and fun to watch,Especially with Wesley lurking around,It would bring back past feelings for her.

Mulder and Skully scream H/Hr to me, too. The whole time I've watched them try to reveal to truth, I've been shipping them endlessly. I simply LOVED the episode where they had to pretend to be married and live in a creepily neat and ordered neighbourhood. But of course, they had a baby and everything, so that's really nothing. It was funny, though laugh.gif
I played FF7 once, and I completely fell in love with it. While I agree that Tifa and Cloud would have been a great H/Hr substitute, I shipped Cloud and Aries. I was ever so crushed when she died. I really felt like crying my eyes out, all my hope of her and Cloud getting together had been taken away from me just like that! I was about 11 years old. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, I loved FF7 nearly as much as I love HP, and I still shipped Cloud/Aries. A perfect example of H/Hr was staring at me right in the face, but I didn't ship it. See, even though we have loads of characters that remind us of H/Hr, our main ship is still H/Hr, isn't it? [unless I am mistaken] Besides, you don't see us making "Couples that remind you of Mulder/Skully" threads, do you? ^.^ ['course, that could be because we are in a very H/Hr environment, laugh.gif ]
Yeah, I'll shut up now.

Mulder and Scully.
Ooh, their dynamic was amazing.

How Mulder/Scully relate to Harry/Hermione:
- Best friends.
- M/S took 7 seasons to get together - result being William.
[H/H will most likely get together in book 7.]
- Scully always had unwavering faith in Mulder.
- Mulder always had the tendency to run around half-cocked.
- Scully looked at dealing with certain situations with a logical mind.
- Mulder would deal with things through his emotions.
- Scully always knew how to read Mulder's body language.
- Mulder had a lonely childhood. He also lost a family member (sister).
- Scully was never afraid to tell Mulder when he was acting irrational and stupid.
- Mulder would give her looks.
- Scully also tried to give Mulder another viewpoint on things.
- Mulder most times would ignore her viewpoint only in the end having to admit she was right.
- Scully was distrustful with Diana Fowley (Cho), with good reasons.
- Mulder was blind when it came to DF. mad2.gif

Okay, said too much.

QUOTE(Neige @ Sep 18 2004, 09:58 PM)
Bravo to all of those who said Mulder and Scully!  They're the first couple(and only one) that comes in my mind when I think of Harry and Hermione.

They were both so close.  At first she was nagging him - and he was driving her crazy with his crazy ideas and his temperament.

But then they grew together.  First as friends, then as confidents, then as something undefinable only by the term of 'friendship'.  It was more than that.  They had an understanding.  A deepest of connections.  They were soulmates.

Little William is the product of their love.

Shame that she gave him away... *sobs*

One of my most favourite X-Files scene ever goes like this:

(She puts her arms around his shoulders and they hold each other.)

MULDER: Scully, I was like you once-- I didn't know who to trust. Then I... I chose another path... another life, another fate, where I found my sister. The end of my world was unrecognizable and upside down. There was one thing that remained the same.

(He holds her face and gazes at her.)

MULDER: You... were my friend, and you told me the truth. Even when the world was falling apart, you were my constant... my touchstone.

SCULLY: And you are mine.

(They move their faces close together ... and SCULLY kisses him on the forehead. Not a peck. A very nice, sweet, long kiss. They pull slightly apart, still touching. SCULLY puts his ball cap back on his head and cups his face in her hands. They look at each other with every bit of trust, friendship, respect, love, and whatever else these two have for each other. Then she touches his lips gently with her fingers and leaves. MULDER stands in the doorway and closes his eyes.)

Emphasis is mine. I know i used to love watching that series and then Gordy pining over Lizzy awww. What ever happened with those two,BBC2's "Smile" stopped showing the series, unless it was nearing the end of the series?!?!

I finally watched "Garden State" today and i was reminded of HHR with Andrew Largeman and Sam (Zach Braff and Natalie Portman),when he said he felt safe when he is with her,and when he said that he needed her and she needed him made me think "awwww its HHR,in book 7".

Belle and beast (from beauty and the beast) shows hints of hhr, belle being clever and a book lover, going back to help the beast when gaston the jealous jerk heads off the castle to kill beast coz he realises she has feelings for beast. Beast wanting to change, going to save her form the wolves, getting injured in the process.

I haven't read through this thread so I don't know if it's already mentioned, but a great literary couple that definitely has a Harmony-type relationship is Will/Lyra from Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials series. I read the series (finished the last book today, actually) at the recommendation of several fellow H/HR shippers, and I was not disappointed. The HDM books are now among my favorite, and Will/Lyra is my favorite fictional [romantic] relationship. They are similar to H/HR in many ways. If you haven't read it, give it a try. But read the books in order, or it won't make any sense.

AHHHHH!!!! yay... Mamoru and Usagi... or Serena and Darien , I don't mind it too much.

* Flashback to earlier fandom love *

But I have to say that they became H/Hr later in the series. When they didn't know about each other, it was extremely R/Hr. Gosh, I forgot some of the character names, but I still remember when Anne and forgot-his-name-but-I-think-it-started-with-an-A lured Darien and Serena away from each other. *grumble obhwf grumble*

True, Sakura is out for the first volume of the manga (Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle), sut the similarities with H/Hr go beyond the story-line of Tsubasa Chronicle. In this story, Sakura and Syaoran are childhood friends. Syaoran had a difficult childhood (the story behind it is kept from the reader) but it is said that he was very closed to people. It is when he meets Sakura that he starts to open himself, and Sakura also does the same, with the result that they have a deep friendship that has evolved into something more. Of course, Sakura didn't get the chance to tell Syaoran that she loved him, and then she loses her memories.

Harry and Hermione were both lonely people (you get that sort of feeling in PS) and it is through the years that they have opened to each other. To me it is the same type of bond Sakura and Syaoran share.

The last episode shown on Smile was the last episode of the series. The movie continued on from the series, but the TV show has now stopped filming.
There may be another movie on the way sometime in the future but that's not confirmed.

Now, for the couples that remind me of Harry/Hermione;

Lizzie/Gordo (Never really had closure on that front. *grumble*)Lizzie McGuire
Mulder/Scully (All the explanations needed before this post) X-Files
Sam/Jack Stargate SG-1
Sam and Jack just mirror Harry/Hermione for me.
- They're best friends
- They first met during a life-changing experience (Going through the Stargate)
- Jack can sometimes be reckless. He would like to go in all guns blazing.
- Sam's uberly clever. She's an astrophysisist (sp??) and she thinks things through before she does anything. Usually. She's the "brains of the outfit" but she can still take care of herself.
- Jack needs Sam. Without her he goes insane and can't concentrate.
- Sam needs Jack. If he's missing she works around the clock to get him back. Even relatively early on in the series (Season 2 or 3 I believe. We're on season 9 now)
- They can communicate with just a look
- Sam can calm Jack even when he's all riled up.

Harry and Hermione!

From "Gilmore Girls"? Yes, I do see Luke/Lorelai as H/Hr. I can't see Dean/Rory as H/Hr. Especially not after their most recent break-up.

Aside from that, I agree with the following that have been already mentioned:

Mulder/Scully from the X-Files

Dawson/Joey from Dawson's Creek (barely watched many episodes, but I know their story)

Lucius/Ivy from the film "The Village"

Riker/Troi from Star Trek: TNG

Couples that remind me of Harry/Hermione:

Tai/Sora – I love digemon

Rosalee/Pete – Win a date with Tad Hamilton.

Lizzie/Gordo – Lizzie McGuire

Kim/Ron – from Kim Possible (watch the extra long episode)

Will/Grace – Got to love it !

Rachel/Ross - Chandler/Monica – Friends

Leo/Piper – Charmed

Liz/Max – Roswell High

Corey/Topanga – Boy meets world

Will/Elizabeth – Pirates of the Caribbean

Lily/James – need I say more?

Debbie/Darren – From the Darren Shan Saga

Neo/trinity – Matrix

Back when I used to watch Lizzie McGuire I always liked the idea of Gordo/Miranda better than Lizzie/Gordo. I guess that's just because I liked Miranda better than Lizzie, but idk. Hmmm...I guess Lizzie/Gordo are like Harry and Hermione. But that would kind of make me a hippocrite to say that when I supported Gordo and Miranda.

I think that Etienne and Catherine of the book Germinal by Emile Zola look very much like Harry and Hermione.

At first they were just two really close friends and then they starts to realise that they have feelings for eachothers by the middle of the story. But Catherine is going out with Chaval who's really jealous and she can't go out with Etienne. At the end, Etienne kills Chaval and tells his love for her but, she dies the next day so finally they can't live together. mad2.gif

For those of you that are youngins it's that movie with the line "I'll have what's she's having..."

Okay, one I'm only going to admit this once, my girlfriend made me watch that and I enjoyed the movie and agree with you one hundred percent. Two people who knew nothing about one another before meeting become so ###### close it scary at times.

I've got this to say all well. Read classical literature, and you will see great parrallels to H/HR. Take the Count of Monte Cristo, excellent book/movie. I think a great deal of the past writings will show that type of relationship moreso than the bickering/lets-have-sex relationship that I think Ron and HErminoe are seemingly going toward.

Speaking of Lizzie and Gordo what DID actually happen with those two or was Gordo's secret crush kept well hidden from everybody. God imagine if Kate found out, what a Moo cow.

Uh... they're not fictional characters and they never did get together.

But I always thought it was tragic that Queen Elizabeth I and Robin Dudley were never allowed to be together. They were childhood friends and her personality seems to match up well with Harry (saving-people thing) and he was always there to back her up.

Couples that reminds me of H/HR:

Max/Liz - Roswell. Max is too much like Harry, takes everything on to his shoulder, he needs to protect everyone. Liz is like Hermione, self conciess about her looks and is willing to put herself in danger if that what it took to stand beside Max and protect them, just like what Hermione does for Harry. They both disagree to agree, they listen to each other even when they are annoyed with the other and such.

Jake/Diane - Jake 2.0. Jake is kinda like Harry, he has this ability that he doesn't want and it takes a toll on him, Harry has a destiny that he doesn't want. Diane comforts Jake and treats him like a normal person, just like Hermione does, so both boys are totally comfortable and natural around the girls.

Mulder/Scully - X-Files. Mulder and Harry are kinda the same, they both are suspiocus and are willing to believe in things that they believe is possible - Mulder - Aliens, Harry - the prohecy. Scully and Hermione are the same too, they are secpetical - they don't believe in things like that, even when it's in front of them - Scully - Aliens, Hermione - future telling and such. Mulder and Scully are natural around each other and it reminds me too much of Harry and Hermione, considering Mulder is willing to risk his life to save Scully and vis versa.

Clark/Lois - Clark/Chloe - Smallville. Clark is too much like Harry - having a destiny thrusted upon them that they don't want and having seen too many deaths. Hermione, in a way is like both, Lois and Chloe. First - Chloe now knows Clark secret and still treats him like a normal boy, Hermione does the same to Harry, she treats him like a normal person rather than the 'Boy Who Lived'. Lois distract Clark from his burdern, Lois knows when things are bugging Clark and distract him so he will forget it, Hermione reminds me of her, making Harry forget that he is the boy who lived when they talk together and such. Plus, Lois is the one person who doesn't treat Clark like he a hero and constantly gets on to him for blaming himself for something he had no control over, just like Hermione, she hates it when Harry blames himself for something he didn't do and calls him on it.

I have more but i can't seem to remember them at the moment, will come back when i find out.

Have not read the entire thread, so excuse me if this has been mentioned a gazilion times or anything:
Ryo/Ichigo from Tokyo Mew Mew! wub.gif The similarities to Harry/Hermione are astonishing, and seemingly never ending. Like our ship they never happened, as the writers instead gives Masaya (the boy Ichigo had a crush on in the beginning) a heightened importance so that Masaya/Ichigo can happen. (See? The super-fixed Ginny exists in male forms too...)

Pairs that remind me of HHr *thinks*:

heart.gif David Copperfield heart.gif
David Harry
Agnes Hermione
Dora Ginny

heart.gif Lizzie McGuire heart.gif
Lizzie Harry (they're both central figures)
Gordo Hermione (both are good in studies)

I don't watch X-files that much but I agree, they do bring to mind the typical HHr shipping.

heart.gif The Children of The New Forest heart.gif
Edward Harry
Patience Hermione
Humphrey Ron
Clara Luna
Alice/Edith Ginny

heart.gif Mansfield Park heart.gif
(Forgot the names...sad.gif, but I can safely say the Weasleys resemble the Crawfords)

heart.gif The Little White Horse heart.gif
Maria Harry
Robin Hermione

heart.gif Emma heart.gif
Emma Hermione
Mr. Knight(ley) Harry
(or you can put it vice versa)

That's about it!

OMG I also forgot about the Phantom of The Opera, but although literary-wise it is like Harry/Hermione, I don't think they resemble Potterworld Harmony that much (as compared to some of the others I mentioned). I think if JKR would make a sequel to the Potterworld then maybe there would be something in common.

Anyways, not only the Phantom can be Ron, so can Raoul's older brother, Phillipe. In ways I think Phillipe is more like Ron...
White Flag
Ok, yoos guys may not agree with me but I have comments on some of the couples:

Anne/Gilbert: Yes, it's true they were friends a long time, but Anne hated Gilbert at the beginning and it took her a long time to forgive him. Hermione would never do this to Harry. And I hate to say this but the whole Ron-got-poisoned-and-almost-died scene reminded me of Gilbert getting deathly ill and Anne realizing her love for him. *gag* Don't get me wrong, I love Anne/Gilbert, but it's just too Ron/Hermione to be compared to H/Hr.

Will/Elizabeth: Again, I have to disagree. Will and Elizabeth seemed to be "in love" since they were kids and never had a chance to be best friends because of their stations in life. And Jack is much better than Ron! He would never snog another girl just to get Elizabeth's attention because he knows better.

Raoul/Christine: uh, no that doesn't work either. Raoul and Christine were childhood sweethearts, not friends. And comparing Ron to the Phantom isn't fair. While the Phantom may not be excused for his actions, he is to be pittied far more than Ron, who had a loving family if not money.

Tifa/Cloud: Ugh! This combination is far more Ginny/Harry than anything else. Tifa crushed on Cloud since she was a little girl, and he barely noticed her at all. Then all of a sudden-- Love! Screw the flashbacks, they made no sense with the rest of the story.Tifa also seems a very loose woman like Ginny.

Squall/Rinoa: Ginny/Harry again. Squall would've preferred to be alone in his misery when along comes this forward girl who fancies him and pesters him until he caves in and all of a sudden loves her. Very HBP, if you ask me.

Couples that are Harry/Hermione-ish (IMHO):

Steed/Emma and Purdey/Gambit from The Avengers and the New Avengers:
If Harry and Hermione were adults, this would probably be how they acted. Like Mulder and Scully, these two couples complimented each other brilliantly. They finished each other's sentences, had great concern for each other, and would rush to the rescue whenever the other was in trouble. Steed always got very angry and upset when Mrs. Peel was kidnapped similar to how Harry acted in the DoM when he thought Hermione was dead.

Squall/Quistis from FF8: Squall was the stoic hero with the weight of the world on his shoulders. Quistis, his childhood friend, was very precocious for her age and always had some information to help Squall. She even tried to confess her feelings, but Squall was too stupid to listen. She gave up as soon as Rinoa entered the picture , which I find a pity.

Unfortunately, the three couples I chose never actually got together in canon, which may very well be the fate of H/Hr. crying.gif

Sorry, I have to disagree with this (Although I'm an avid CloudxAerith fan). I think you matched the characters wrongly.

Scene 1
Cloud had a crush (if you could call it that) on Tifa but Tifa was too busy hanging out with the 'big boys' to realize that Cloud even existed.

Ginny had a crush on Harry but Harry was too busy thinking about Cho to give a ###### about Ginny's feelings towards him.

Scene 2
Only after Cloud left for Midgar did she grew feelings for him, and then when she met him again she was already in love with him. Which is a tad too late, because Cloud has already met Aerith.

Only after Ginny stops crushing on Harry and goes out with other guys did Harry realize his (ugh) feelings for her. Which is a tad too late, because Ginny is dating Dean.

Despite all that I still think that Cloud/Tifa is a poor comparison to Harry/Hermione. Tifa keeps secrets from Cloud, which ends up being hazardous to Cloud and the rest of the world. The whole 'Tifa helps Cloud retrieve his true memories and feelings for her in the lifestream because she is DAH KEWLEST ANGEL!!111' is crap. She caused Cloud's breakdown, and therefore she must fix it. Hermione will never do such a thing to Harry, she cares too much for him. Although... if we compare it Harry/Ginny, it probably *could* happen...

Fox/Mulder- Definately! They were the first pairing I thought of! The way he always looks at Mulder and touches her.

Max/Liz- From Roswell....definately, they were just like Harry and Hermione.

Lauren/Stephen- Laguna Beach on MTV, He just cannot admit to himself how much he loves that girl!

Ephram/Amy- From WB's Everwood, great friends that developed into lovers!

That's all i can think of for now, I have to take my dog out blush.gif

I don't think anyone's mentioned this, but Rachel and Bruce in "Batman Begins" remind me of H/HR. She tells him what she think is right, and he listens to her even when he doesn't want to. She is his "voice of reason". They care deeply about each other, though it doesn't end in a romance.

Allow me to add to this list of compareable relationships:

Relationships similiar to Harry/Hermione (in terms of absolute care and affection)

1) Alex/Luna: Lunar Sliver Star Story
2) Cloud/Aeris: FF7
3) Recca/Yanagi: Flame of Recca
4) Pazu/Sheeta: Laputa: Castle in the Sky
5 & 6 & 7) Tai/Sora, TK/Kari, Takato/Juri: Digimon series.

Hope that is good.

In Kim Possible, Kim and Ron remind me a lot of H/Hr. They don't really show anything more than just friendship toward each other and don't get jealous when the other goes out with someone and don't end up with each other until the finale.

Myona and Cage from Zone of the Enders: Fist of Mars.

In brief:
Myona lost her memory, and once she remembers everything, she runs away. She threatens to blow something up or other (ack, fuzzy memory), but Cage manages to save her by ... (ack!) well, I think he tells her how he feels about her.

At the end, there's this bit:
Myona: Been through a lot...trust...do you think you and I have that?
Cage: Of course. It's been like that for a while now.

Ugh, I'll change this once I remember. I seem to have amnesia too.
